I believe that if Patterson and Harris were fighting in today's fight arena, they would both be heavyweights. Patterson was 190 and Harris was 194, however, if they were fighting today, they would be following the same weight training programs that today's boxers use. With the proper weight training, Patterson and/or Harris would weigh in at 205-215 today.
Roy Harris went to school with my dad. He was rushed into the Patterson fight before he was really ready.
Liston was out of his league, unfortunately. Roy had some talent and was a pretty decent fighter. Neither Harris or Patterson would be heavyweights today
@bptaylor11 In the 1960 bout with Liston, Harris was down 3 times in round 1. Liston TKO'd Harris at 2:35 in the 1st. Bob Mee discusses in his book (The Heavyweights, The Definite History of The Heavyweight Fighters) that Harris indicated he could have continued. Harris had a lot of heart and character. As for today's fight arena, I apprehend that Harris would use weight training and fight in the HW division at 210-215 pounds [Harris weighed 206 in 1958 when he won the Texas HW title].
I know him talked to him today

@BigCity80 Thanks, BigCity80. I wasn't aware that Harris ever got that big.

Fascinating footage. Harris also fought and lost to Sonny Liston, as I recall.
