@Baderproductions hey man i have a 15 minute senoir project presentation and i know what you mean. good luck man really it helps if you make the class laugh first and yourself to help you loosen up a bit. dont talk too fast and think about breathing the most or you could run out of breath. practice infront of people your comfortable with and then progress from there. i hate having this stupid anxiety but we can overcome it.
There are some actually good tips here. I've been searching for other ways to overcome fear of public speaking and found a free report on this website. Its pretty cool. Check it out. I dont think Youtube allows me to post links so i'll have to show it to you in this format:
I used to run out of air on stage and almost have a panic attack. Then I remembered to breathe well i had to and it was all fine. I think it gives the audience a chance to breathe too.
all my family are confident they can talk to people and get on with them, i used to be like that i was confident and didnt care what people thought, but now i cant talk ot any1 , ive lost my confidence down the line somewhere and i want it back, wanna be my real self because this isnt me now :/
i turn SOOO RED! I BLUSH SO BAD!!! I HATE IT! espically when my history teacher says " oral presentations", even if its 1 min long by urself, it SUCKS!
i turn red even if im in tht damn classroom w/ those ppl. ughhh i h8 this. i hope this is just a stage im going through...
@rhcp4565 i feel like the only one in this world tht has this issue. I recently met like 20 ppl in this house party and about 10 of us surrounded in a circle and man i hate being the one in center of attention!!! i blush so much but i GUESS its cuz i'm....shy or something.... =\ it makes it worse when i'm meeting new ppl in a house! i'm more comfertable outside but like inside a room or w/e i feel closed and intimiated..... u like tht 2?
fuck this bullshit it pisses me off when my teacher says oral presentation cus i hate doing it im gonna tell her to go fuck herself and not do a presentation its not worth the stress or anxiety
@packerdmohar1 i feel the same way a few months ago my teacher anaunced a oralspeech ,free subject, and we cant even read it! i have been sweating nearveous and scared since she anaunced it ....the speech is 3 weeks from now and im going crazy...
@chuchi100293 lol, it went well i brought pictures and everything to my speech, i gave some classmetes a trauma but other than that it was fun and great ^^
I hope you don't think negatively. Please don't lose faith coz i am positively sure one day you could all do it. i mean, not everyone in this world has to gift of speaking publicly right? We all have our gifts and talents and as such we shld dwell on them. And if you ever have to give a speech, then l'll suggest that you practice, practice and practice...It really helps even if you are nervous. And...Pray..When u can't do it on your own, depend on God.he never fails us.
i always get nervous about speaking in public coz im generally a quiet person. I remember back in school when i had a module on public presentation and all of us had to give an individual speech. i couldn't sleep the night b4, i mean i had a totally nervous breakdown - my heart starts pounding, my head feels light, my ears start drumming, my face heats up. But Guess What? Im a christian, so i always pray b4 i speak. God is absolutely amazing coz he removes my fear. Amen to God almighty. =)
actually god is just made up in your head so its you who calmed yourself down and overcame your fears, not some invisible sky daddy who would help you with public speaking and not help starving children all around the world
I use to be the same way. One of the main reasons I would get so nervous was because once I got up to give the speech I was overwelmed by all the people looking at me.
What has worked for me is two things: 1. I feel very comfortable in one on one situations, so regardless if I am giving a speech to 5 people or 500 I visualize before I go up to do the speech that I am talking to just ONE person.
2. Video tape yourself before hand, and start practing giving speeches on a daily basis.
I'm always so anxious. I'm a really shy person and god how it annoys me when people ask me this question "why are you so shy?" I always feel like ripping their heads off. This sucks because I want to be a singer and I know I have a beautiful voice but I get all shaky when I try singing in front of people and my voice sounds weird.
When im in class i want to get up and make a speech but after i get a feeling and my heart start going like crazy. I dont know y but when i was hearing this i got nervous .
I used to have somewhat bad public speaking skills. I find building up your public speaking skills gradually by saying more in public places, and in front of groups of people helps. Take a few controlled breaths occasionally and pace yourself when you give a presentation, etc and think of someone confident in your mind and act like you think they would act in the same situation. I always find this helps.
i remember giving impromptu speeches and I would freeze and my teacher knew it but still made me stand in front for the longest 5 minutes of sweating and student eyes snickering and hating...
yea.. i would go into almost throwing-up. but catch my breath...and the teacher would just smile with a grin...it was hard to stare back into my clasmates cause they would protect ther faces and would give that "what a loser" facelook.
Advanced Placement Classes wanted to weed out shy people like me.
Couldn't you have been able to switch out of that class, seems like a teacher like that shouldn't be teaching.... Also, surely you could take some sort of therapy about this, because clearly it's an issue for you. Do you still continue to get nervous even if the people your presenting to are your friends?
I did switch from that class, and they stuck me a normal student class. they didnt switch me to a class that i was supposed to be in as far as being in an advance placement class. thanks for the suggestion of therapy which I never had balls to do.
I still get somewhat nervous in front of well known folks that I face everyday, but I tend to act differntly taking on a different character which I may dispaly at times for me to cope.
I remember in 4th grade, I ran for president. And you had to do speeches of course. First you have to present it in front of your class, then in front of a camera. I was outgoing then I didn't care about anything. I went up there and read the paper and that paper shook....my teacher was like, "Your paper is shaking....." I was mad as hell! Then I said "I got this...." FAIL. Sat my ass down and didn't run for president ever again.
OMG i just finished my speech 105 class and i have to deliver 2 more speeches that my prof just announced i really wanna drop out of this course i can probably breathe better smoking a bogey but i think next time a few bogeys should help because right now im in so much shock im not driving until my body relaxes and wahts funny is the speech is over and im still nervous i hate this class so freaken much this is not worth an A in a course but anyways im going to smoke a bogey right now heh
I'm not afraid of my voice, I like it. I'm fine with giving speeches, but I'll be sitting at my desk, and my teacher asks me to read. So my heart starts beating fast and I hyperventilate!! I used to love reading and now I think everyone is judging me if I mess up a word, although I know there not, help! I can't get over this fear!
how old are you? cuz i felt like that when i was younger, it realy did not stop when you gain cofidence in your self and realize that ur class mates are there for the same reason and for me, really i stoped feeling like that when i was in college and really knew what i was studying and talking about u know? its weird, i still feel weird and just like you mentioned when it comes to speaking infromt of people. but overall, just realize that if u set out to feel awkward u just might do so, it sucks
I have the EXACT same problem. It's as if certain words trigger it off. Anything such as 'read out' or 'presentation' and my heart starts to race, and my breathing becomes heavy. It's horrible, but after a few minutes I can control it. But it's the worst feeling ever :(
I always get nervous when having to speak in front of the class. I just hate my voice so much and at times my voice starts to sound nervous by the fact that I hate how I sound. Sometimes I think about skipping class knowing that I have to read out loud but I know I am better than that. I always struggle though and I have tried many things but I still get nervous because when I try to speak loud it literally sounds like I am trying too hard no matter what D:
let me give one way to really do your best on your first time of public speech. try to be careless about the negativity inside of you and always remember that no one is ever perfect no matter how hard they try it.

In NLP we would reframe anxiety as excitement. its just the internal language.
So if you say to yourself Im really excited about speaking and then focus on all the cool things that will happen anxiety doesnt come into it.
