I never get tired of watching Eddie. He's timeless! Him and Fannie Brice seem so warm and sincere, even when poking fun at themselves in films. Thank you for posting!
If you don't love Eddie you don't have a CLUE!!! Fantastic performer who had CLASS,CHARM,SHOWMANSHIP,Truly THE APOSTLE OF PEP!!! Thank You MILLIONS STJN00 and You Tube!!!!
This gentle lullaby of a musical number is almost enough to make me believe that the Great Depression was a sweet time to be alive. (Hey, it was definitely sweeter than the 2000's!) I love Cantor's mixture of naivete and mischief: he's a boyish innocent who somehow always manages to get the girl and win the jackpot, too. If only the real world worked that way!
What's with that line at 0:58 about covering his walls with paintings by Walt Disney? Was it considered prestigious to have pictures of Mickey Mouse hanging in one's house in those days?
No. I think it just goes along with Eddie's personality in this movie. The song in many ways is what a child raised in and used to poverty would wish for (not in all respects, of course) ice cream, no school, no spinach, etc.
What can I say?! Fantastic to find these clips... I haven't seen this stuff since about 1975 or earlier. Over these years I have often remembered a beautiful ballad from this movie, sung by the female lead, Ann Southern (and the romantic male interest) called "Your head on my shoulder". Lots of good chords in the manner of songs that were composed by a pianists of the time. Would love to hear that song again if ever you get to upload it.
Wow! I wonder if I was the one who made the request for this--I think maybe! Regardless of who it was, thank you so, so, so, very much for posting it. What a delight! Brings back so many memories! This song and "When We Build A Little Home" are my two favorite Eddie Cantor songs. He was a fantastic person in real life as well. He helped start the March of Dimes charity and he gave numerous performers such as Dinah Shore, Eddie Fisher (to name just two) their start at fame.
Great Video! I was lucky enough to grow up with Eddie Cantor on TV.Still can remember Milton Berle,The Dorsey Bros.,Kay Kyser,Sammy Kaye,Bing Crosby etc. That was real talent unlike the TRASH of today.
Some of "The Our Gang"/"The Little Rascal"Kids..Lenny Kibrick,Mat("Stymie")Beard,Tom("Butch")Bond appear in this film with
Eddie Cantor.

Most of the so called entertainers of today can only be described as trash. Sad but true.
