Sean Marshall and Michelle Tobin look like brother and sister, but Clark Brandon and Jimmy Mc Nichol didn't look like they could be related, to each other, or the others.
Ummm...the producers set it in Flint and had the dad work in a steel mill because A) it's a fictional family B) they wanted to cover the working class people all over the U.S. and C) they didn't care that it wasn't accurate. It was a family comedy/drama without a laugh track. Yes, we got killed in the ratings, but we did some innovated stuff for the time...things not done at 8, prime time with ANY other family show.
I was always looking 2 find something about this show, but I couldn´t found anything except ur video! It would be great if u would share the entire episode with us!
I've been looking for this forever. I watched every episode and audiotaped the last one on January 10. 1978. This show ran opposite Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley and got creamed in the ratings, Thanks so much for posting this.
Clark Brandon moved on to "MR. MERLIN" on the same network (1981-'82), but eventually disappeared from Hollywood and acting altogether. Chalk this up as one of CBS' misguided attempts to compete with ABC"s 'HAPPY DAYS" and "LAVERNE & SHIRLEY" on Tuesdays {with more than half of all viewers watching those shows, who was left to see THIS?}. It was nice of you to share this wtih us, Adam. That's more than the studio has ever done...
I remember feeling that this show was a complete rip-off of "Eight is Enough." "Mulligan's Stew" debuted that same year on NBC--another multi-sibling show which likewise bombed. "Family" on ABC was MUCH better (even better than "Eight is Enough"); "Family Tree" on NBC (with young James Spader) in 1982 was in the mold of ABC's "Family," but debuting the same year as "Family TIES" and on the same network, there must have been confusion. "Two Marriages" on ABC in 1983 was also cool.
Before my time. I grew up in Flint, Michigan but never heard of The Fitzpatricks. I wonder if anyone has an episode they could post.
Might have been a bit more realistic had the dad worked in an auto plant rather than a steel mill, lol. Wonder why they chose Flint of all places as the setting.
I am THRILLED to have found this --The Fitzpatricks was so on so briefly I've wondered at times if I'd merely imagined it --now I know I didn't. THANK YOU!
Wow! Thanks for posting - it's wild and freaky, but I do remember this show and some of the shows' episodes very clearly as if it were yesterday and not 30 years ago
Wow, I was so shocked to find this. I was still in grade school at the time and that was probably my favorite show of the late '70s, I was devastated when it didn't last long. Thanks for sharing!
to bad tvland doesn't it bring it back. so many lost classics.

Clark Brandon later played a recurring role on "The Facts of Life" as Jo's boyfriend.

Wasn't this about a family with a bunch of adopted kids? Mariclare Costello scared the crap out of me in "Let's Scare Jessica to Death"!

You're thinking of Mulligan's Stew, an NBC series which aired in that same season.

Show was cancelled after mom gave birth on tv. Something not heard of in the 70's. Good show though. Helen Hunt only one still in business. I think.

I don't recall this show it reminds me of the Walton's and the Brady Bunch so was it a drama or a comedy? How long was it on?
