I hear a lot of people say things like this with no point of reference. First you have to know what is being presented as news and what an op/ed show is about. With what you know about a cable news networks format you would have to conclude that all networks are the same. Fox, like every other network, is dominated by opinion/editorial shows. Fox has O'relly, Beck, Hannity and MSNBC has Maddow, Shultz, Matthews and (had) Olbermann. None of those programs are discussion news without bias.

The phrase she's thinking of is "COMPARING apples and oranges" which STILL doesn't make sense. I understand this phrase to mean that it's not at all fair to compare the merits of two things that are judged on completely different curriculum. Example: the qualities that make an apple delicious aren't the same qualities that make an orange delicious. The only exception to this that I know of are, of course, Granny Smith Oranges.

For some solid evidence, just look at how Jon Stewart treats Republicans (like Mike Huckabee) compared to how Fox News treats Democrats (for example the infamous Bill Clinton interview). WTF! Their ignorance is astonishing. Media been covering it? Therefore deserves credit? Mainstream media was not able to pressure congress into passing it for OVER 8 YEARS, so Mainstream Media didn't contribute anything.
Its very astonishing, that 1 COMEDIAN, who is one of the hosts for a comedy talk show that has around 20 min to bring on the pressure. This is miniscule compared to the 24/7, everyday of the week that main stream media has to inform the public like stewart did.

I hear a lot of people say things like this with no point of reference. First you have to know what is being presented as news and what an op/ed show is about. With what you know about a cable news networks format you would have to conclude that all networks are the same. Fox, like every other network, is dominated by opinion/editorial shows. Fox has O'relly, Beck, Hannity and MSNBC has Maddow, Shultz, Matthews and (had) Olbermann. None of those programs are discussion news without bias.

Mine too. I've watched it many times. Carlson was just an embarrassment. Stewart has been underestimated many times. I usually prefer a more intellectual approach but he is very funny & way more charismatic & powerful than someone like Christopher Hitchens who I admire deeply. Hitchens can be like lightning w/his wit but is usually angry & straightforward while Stewart is a bit of a trickster. While everyone is laughing their asses off he has the next 3 punishing blows waiting.

In response to the "Mixing Apples and Oranges" thing.
The phrase she's thinking of is "COMPARING apples and oranges" which STILL doesn't make sense. I understand this phrase to mean that it's not at all fair to compare the merits of two things that are judged on completely different curriculum. Example: the qualities that make an apple delicious aren't the same qualities that make an orange delicious. The only exception to this that I know of are, of course, Granny Smith Oranges.

Gretchen: Daily Show & Comedy Central are CABLE OPERATIONS. Fox nether mentioned the bill nor pushed it except perhaps belatedly by Shep. Stewart destroyed Jim Cramer, Tucker Carlson, Begala etc.. He is a comedian w/great timing and care for issues and ideas. His facts are usually right on, he doesn't manufacture news & he skewers the red and blue and the left and right.
