@totalgeeta SAE was a waste of time and money as far as getting Neve experience they only let you touch the console once all year! worth it for networking, theory and a couple recordings.
it was good for those who had no experience whatsoever. I made use of my time at the college and benefitted a lot from touching "the console once all year!" . I can imagine that you have a mixing desk and have had opportunities that others haven't had yet, so don't take it out on SAE
They have an SSL g+4000 and a 72 channel Neve VR at the college im going to in september! They own Windmill Lane Recording studio! im sooo lucky to be going there!
@Md2802 yeah i went to the windmill open day! i was the only youngster there :P are you new to the industry or are you a practicing engineer like myself?!
@crackshotnoodles@crackshotnoodles Industry? No. I've been mixing for 3 years: bands from school, some solo recordings, but mostly my own stuff. Really though, I write music. My recording room (bedroom) sounds crap so my work is mostly "in-the-box". It's not all bad though, vst's are getting better all the time. Some of them sound incredibly real, especially the pianos. Come to think of it, have you heared Amplitube 3?
Cool cool, ive been mixing for about 2 now, i have my own Passive PA with mics desk amp rack FX rack and Outboard rack. Im mroe into the live stuff as you can see.
But i do alot of recording with my mate through logic
@crackshotnoodles I have FL Studio, Protools LE, and Reason. Most of my stuff is still done with FL because all my instruments and effects are vst's. I don't have much outboard gear (only the EQs and FXs in the analogue mixer). My only rack mount is a power amp for the B2030Ps. Those, a couple of keyboards, an M-box and a PC are all I need right now.
Anyway, yours sounds like a nice live setup. What outboard gear do you have? Where do you put it to good use?
@crackshotnoodles An LS9! How the hell can you afford that? They must be paying you a lot of €. I'm guessing you dont have much Behringer gear...
You said you were one of the youngest at the open day, does that mean you're still in school too? If so, fair play for getting a head start!
Anyway, no accomodation yet. I'll have to look for a place during the summer. The courses are expencive so I might need to stay at home and take the bus. And you?
@Md2802 I said im SAVING for an LS9 hah! i use one at the pub that i work in! (DeBarras) ive got a behringer Xover and a dual 15 band graphic for monitors!
@crackshotnoodles No, but I haven't been looking. I live in Wicklow so if it comes to it I can get the bus or the train. What about yourself? do you have a place yet?
When i was in SAE Paris, there was a Neve VR Legend 80, it was quiet difficult to use, i mean to configure, but what ever you 've plugged in, the sound was magic.
Lucky you, mixing Steve Gadd aka Steve God.

@LVB1770 Yes, he is immense. Sadly I didn't get to meet him while they were recording :(

Pulse Recording College? Me too! what course are you taking?
Md2802 1 year ago
The 2 year diploma! My aim is geared towards live sound more than studio! ill see you there!
crackshotnoodles 1 year ago
@crackshotnoodles Live sound... I might have seen you at one of the open days! Did you go to Windmill Lane in November?
I'm taking the degree in "Music Production". Composing/producing/engineering are more my neck-of-the-woods.
Congratulations on getting a place and see you in September!

@Md2802 I do live PA hire for bands or through The pub i work in!
ive got Compressors/gates. Graphic Eq's built in reverb. im not buying any more though as im saving for a Yamaha LS9!
Have you found accomodation for the length of the course?

@crackshotnoodles Still, the LS9 is an expencive piece of kit. Even the 16 channel one costs 5 grand!
My mixer's a Behringer Xenyx, but I'm mostly digital now so it's just gathering dust.
Md2802 1 year ago
@Md2802 yeah they are ersious pieces of kit! i love them though! Have you got accommodation sorted for september?

@Md2802 not yuet unfortunatly, have been looking and there are 4 bedroom flats going for about 100pps, which isnt bad if you can get rent allowance!
crackshotnoodles 1 year ago
@crackshotnoodles That's pretty good. What part of the city is that?
Rent isn't the worry though. The course fees are what'll hurt your wallet!
Md2802 1 year ago
@Md2802 Dublin 8, its about 15 minute walk to pulse! thankfully im only on the 2 year course! but still! ouch
crackshotnoodles 1 year ago
@crackshotnoodles Yeah. It takes a chunk out of the recording budget. But at least I'm not saving up for a new mixer...

i worked on a Neve V3 60 & 30
and a ssl 9000 & 4000
the ssls were easier to start up, but i liked the sound of the neve. They were hard at first..but it got easier once you got the hang of it.
