I hope you realize that tremulous that came in 2006 came out as STAND ALONE game however in 2000 it was a MOD for quake 3.

Tremulous was inspired by a mod for quake 2 called GLOOM that was back in late 90's like 1998.

So NS didn't inspire anything and it isn't original now go cry.

I think you might be able to, as long as you are running steam. Because counter-strike will download all the basic engine files that HL uses so it can run itself. Not entirely sure though.

It'll be called Natural Selection 2. They are no longer using the source engine, so you will not need HL2 to play it.
