  • what a band. the bands nowadays are not even close to the class of this band(:

  • turbulent times flashed back to me, it was like we all lived it and filed it away

  • Far out, awesome song, group and the times, WOW. I got drafted back then and lived all of these hards times. Funny when Obama got elected and it began to sink in, all these

    turbulent time

  • My brother had a copy of this album, I wore it out listening to every song over and over! It's been too long to have a listen...

  • Who could dislike this? Peace 2 all

  • Aint that what you said ... Aint that what you said ... Aint that what you say ............

  • This tune was recorded in a public restroom to get that different sound that they captured.

  • Nice tunes, just don't care for the politics of them. Too many very brave young men died in that war. Then the ones that came back were treated horribly. Such a shame to fight for your country only to be disgraced for it.

  • @ryindy It's something that I believe has changed. Everybody I know who was disgusted with Bush's invasion in Afghanistan and Iraq hated those in Washington making the key decisions and certainly not the young men and women fighting the war.

  • @Drewb18c1 No one hates war more than the soldier who has to fight it.

Yet it wasn't blue collar Americans who started the Viet Nam war and it wasn't DC elite's who protested it. Yet it was the semi "educated" college age "love-in generation" who scorned those that returned from country and labeled them as "war mongers". Those words and the protests against those whose only crime was to serve thier country should never have happened. As I said, Nice tune, just don't care for the politics.

  • One thing that comes out in all the 3DN songs is great production. An engineer who got the most out of the musicians, who were not superstars at all. The three lead singers, they were 3DN but the organ, guitars and drums, WHAT A SOUND !! They had an edge for sure.

  • man the production was so awesome,,,,,,I had a dog chain on a cymbal to make it sound like a hi hat,,,,I was 9 ,,,,,,wish I could hear then what I hear now,,,,id be eating steaks and shrimp instead of pizza and egg McMuffins

  • @BerkLeeDrm Funny you should mention the dog chain trick. . .I had not1, but TWO strands of paper-clips strung together on one of my cymbals to try and get the same effect. It was pretty pathetic. . .but better than nothing. If I could play like Floyd Sneed, I would have been beyond happy. . .I loved that man's groove. . . .

  • Brilliant is one reaction. Bullshit is another. Don't get me wrong. Nixon was a complete Turd. I didn't understood at the time why these groups (that I loved) would completely leave out Kennedy and Johnson as if they played no part. No, they gave the Dems passes pretty much like today. As long as I'm alive, I will not let people like yourself rewrite the truth of what really happened. Truth doen't know a political party or side. Many a famous group conveniently forgot the real truth.

  • What a year that was--your pix brought back lots of memories. Good job!

  • @zzmystery Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

  • USING NIXON AND VIETNAM WAR WITH THIS SONG WAS BRILLIANT

  • cool

  • Great cars, yeah those V8 mussle cars- Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Corvette ect, high octane gas was 35 cents a gallon in 1970 when this song came out-too bad those days are forever gone.

  • Great tune! That one flashbacked me to my teens....lol *****

  • One of my remaining memories of the 70's

  • I remember too.

  • O Ba Ma........

  • Saw them do this one as a "new song" at the Anaheim Convention Center in '71.

  • Fantastic. Brings back memories of the happy times

  • yeah, I agree with equating.Thought song was about a shunted lover, but your pictures brought in other perspectives after all these years, especially the Kent State picture, when you came to shocked disbelief the establishment is killing our own on our own soil. That event turned my generation against war and politics more than anything else. nice job on a post allowing others to see things in a different light and stirring long dormant wounds.

  • @speedskiff2 I agree with you that the Kent State killings were the biggest shocker of all. It was so sad. Thanks for your interesting comment. It's always nice to hear from someone who was there and remembers the times.

  • @grizzlyten I wasn't there but remember that day well.

  • I really liked this band. Took my kid to see them in the 90's, his first concert.

  • You did and awesome job on this vid... I'd never really equated this song with the Vietnam War and Nixon...

  • @larocca3 Thanks so much! But I tell you, it came easily. I was a young child when this came out. I was terrified of the Vietnam war, the civil unrest, and the Kent State killings. I thought the world was coming to an end! I can't hear this song without remembering all those childhood fears.

  • I still have my vynl album in good shape, nice to see this is posted in original album format

  • All credits go to JESUS and HIM alone...HE is GOD ALMIGHTY/JESUS...that is why I like J.B. he gives the LORD JESUS CHRIST all the credits...

  • One of their forgotten ones during the nation's most turbulent period since the civil war!!!!

  • Good song, one of Three dog Night's best. Thanks

  • @RonSafreed I agree. Thank you for watching and commenting!

  • This song isn't from 1970, but 1971. It came out in the summer of '71.

  • @southwriter It sure did--Summer 1971--for me at George AFB an isolated outpost in the southern Mojave Desert.

  • @TheClam88 Hi there! Just to clarify, Liar was included on Side 2 of the album "Naturally", which was released in 1970. The song was released as a single in 1971, and that's when it would have hIt the airwaves. In this case, I focussed on the year the album was released.

  • @grizzlyten Didn't know that--thnx for the infor.. Liar is a great great song.

  • @southwriter november 1970

  • @HackerGuitarist You're partially correct. That was when the album "Naturally" with this song on it, came out. I was just referring to the SINGLE release, which was June, 1971.

  • @southwriter 0:04 SAME PICTURE ON THE SHEET MUSIC

  • Wow Cheryl this has alot of views :) haha at Dave's comment lol

  • @IrishHipHopHead Yes, when I uploaded this I don't think anyone had uploaded the studio version on here, or maybe there was just one. Don't know about now, though. Thanks for watching!

  • @grizzlyten So this was the first?? :D

  • @IrishHipHopHead I think so, at least for the studio version. There were quite a few live versions though, when i uploaded this.

  • @grizzlyten Well good enough for me , First studio version wins!! lol

  • @grizzlyten I know it was uploaded once before, because I favorited it. Unfortunately, it was taken down.

I think it would have been funny if Nixon was shown during the "Liar!" part. :)

  • OK so who wrote this song, Argent or Three Dog Night ?, looks like they came out the same year, or did Leon Russell write it for whoever ?

  • @PupuTheClown Hi! Russ Ballard from Argent wrote it.

  • @PupuTheClown Russ Ballard wrote it.

  • Great video, very well done. Thanks for sharing it.

  • @258cinnamongirl That's so sweet of you. Thank you!

  • This song is poignant.....if only to me.

  • Great Argent cover.

  • Nine billion sold! This McDonald fellow might be onto something.

  • Originally recorded by Argent (Russ Ballard wrote it) where it was a massive hit in the UK. 3DN's version is the American hit.

  • we also lost jim morrison in '71. i had 3rd row seats at the denver collisium, stoned on purple haze. then we lost jimi hendrix......

  • I like all the starts of their songs. something cool about the beginning of each song.

  • I think I heard they got the funny echo in the vocals of this song by having it sung in a washroom.

  • @switcherdawna Not only that, but Danny Hutton was singing it directly into the toilet. :)

  • sorry about the last comment. but it really did make me laugh out loud.

  • @kate4ever1 It's ok. Never noticed that, but when you mentioned it, it made me laugh, too!

  • fantastic collection of pics. and great music. well done.

is there a connection between the pics @0:30 and 0:35? LOL.

  • @kate4ever1 Well, perhaps, but it wasn't conscious! :-)

  • @grizzlyten are you kidding???? it was by design, trust me.!!!

  • @kate4ever1 thats what we called a Foxx @0:27 back in the day
