They weren't "watered down". This album is where they finally hit the Goth on the money. Along with a hit of punk, western and horror influence. My favorite album of all time. There are some celebs who also mention this as their favorite album ever.
@uphighway101 90% of people who utter the "watered down new wave" complaint are full of shit. Real punk outlived it's usefulness by 1979 and these bands needed to move on, plain and simple. They were doing the right thing for themselves AND for the legacy of original punk for that matter (before "anarcho" bands came along and pissed on it).
Can't believe I threw all my vinyl LP's away (which included 'Strawberries' and 'Machine Gun Etiquette') when I moved house in '06. What a prized clot I am.
After discovering this on youtube, I'm quite glad I never sold my huge damned vinyl collection. LP's, Singles and colored limited editions. I'm gonna check and see if my strawberries still smells! PS. I also have it on picture disc!
Me too! Just got the CD version... and no Strawberry smell! I feel cheated. I loved this album when I was 14 and now I'm 40 it's still up there with Machine Gun Etiquette and Black Album imho. :oD
