  • Magnificent video, great. Her name is now Princess Anastasia and she sails on the St.Petersburg-Stockholm route for St. Peter Line. I had a great crossing on this ship last summer:D

  • anybody remember Ragh from wales who went on here, always in the smoking room lol

  • this boat was a tub of shit,,,,,,,,,,but it was a good tub of shit!

  • now that she has gone brittany ferries will charge what ever they want. at least she is still sailing

  • the pride of bilbao now sails between stockholm (sweden) and st petersburg (russia) throught the baltic sea.

i was planning on visiting the baltic area next year and i was wondering what to do up there - the pride of bilbao (or princess anastasia) has provided a solution :)

  • wont be going back to brittany ferries anyways, will stick with p&o as the north sea crossings aint to bad .. overall the pont aven is a lovely ship and the crew from the bridge greeted you on and off board but other than that it lacks energy and too many snobs

  • been on brittany ferries for a mini cruise from portsmouth to santander back to plymouth and i tell you it lacks the energy that billy had.. was a bit mad listening to the dogs barking on deck..lol and no not the 2 legged variety .. nothing will ever come close to the billy and will always be missed

  • Greatvid...I too im going to buy a modle of her...im 56 years old and still i cry at the loss of this wonderfull ship. Now we stuck with Brittany Ferrys, there and back in 3 days...ARRRRRRRRRR!!!

  • Nice video, nice song, can anyone know what is name of song:)

  • gonna save up to buy her well at least a model

  • great vid shame u never see her or cruise on her again

  • lovely ship =)

  • love this video, this ship and its sister, excellent builds =) so good that they still in use, would be a shame to sell them away to asia or such as that. this video shows what an excellent ship she is,carrying passengers safely in this weather =D never to worry, ship is built to be at sea, even in storm. just get over the ride and wait for next morning beeing at port =) she never let us down. Now she is princess anastacia, I think she looks good, never been onboard, outside is very nice =)

  • This ferry "Pride of Bilbao" is now in passenger traffic between Stockholm and St Petersburg as "Princess Anastacia"

  • @om86xx At least she hasnt ended up being laid up somewhere, Happy retirement from the cruel seas on the Bay of Biscay!

  • is there any other slow cruises to Spain through the Bay of Biscay.. and what happened to the dolphins experts that where on the pride?

  • @federalex brittany ferries are doing dolphin themed mini cruises .. will never be the same : ((

  • Ppl I was on it in the force 12 storm!! It was as scary as hell ppl were screaming!! It was just a horrible thing

  • I love the pride of bilbao! I have been on it once and it got a bit choppy but it was not as bad as this. It is just such a shame that she has now gone.

    p.s. I love the video!!!!!

  • Viking Line has her sistership called Mariella..

  • Shame she is now gone to another operator

  • whats the name of the track on freeplay music?

  • Let me just say ow much I loved this ship even though I only travelled on her twice.

But on the way back once we endured a Force 9-10 gale and I found myself one evening, with the ship battling through the huge waves, I was at the stern and I was gently patting the hand rail and whispering "Come on 'Pride' get us through this". I was absent-mindedly talking to the ship without even noticing!

From then on I loved it. One of my most memorable holidays!!

    I LOVE THIS SHIP!!

  • She's now been called the 'Princess Anastasia' and will sail for St Peter Line on their Stockholm to St Petersburg route.

Shame, I would have hoped for something a bit closer to home. Anyway at least she's coming back (Spring 2011).

PS- Great video love the music

  • @reduolf where you wanted her? her home is up with us,sto-st.pb...old lady olympia :D

  • @ajlisknillat She only spent 6 years working as Olympia and then 17 as the pride of bilbao in Portsmouth. Anyway it doesn't matter - I'm just sad to see her go!!

  • @reduolf I see your point but im sure she will have a good time serving us here, always welcome for a cruise;-) And,we are very happy to have her back, the sisters togheter once again. it is to cute..really. if she was a human, she would prefer beeing here, where she has her origin from hahaha Just kidding. sad that shes leaving you but lucky for us!! :D

  • @ajlisknillat I guess you're right - actually I was more worried about her being scrapped or going to the Far East or something. But Scandinavia isn't very far away..

  • I was also on her very last trip - quite a noisy exit to Bilbao and I saw some of the crew in tears. Shame this dear old ship is being retired.

  • @hughc178 Who said it'd be retiring? ;)

  • @rkan2 It has been retired - I was on P&O's very last return trip on 25th Sept 2010. She's now docked in Falmouth, has been repainted and is now simply called the "Bilbao".

  • Was on its last voyage proudly :-) Very tired boat but well done for that many years of service !!!

  • Bilbao and Barcelona are the places to be in Europe.

  • Love this ship. Shame it stops the bilbao trip in Sept. Love the sound track too!!

  • Its coming to an end just over a months time, Pride Of Bilbao is being retired by

    P & O and not replacing her.

  • Wow just viewed this and I'm in the film with my brother in Law Dave looking out the window. It was a hell of a storm and shortly after this Dave dissappeared to the cabin and was seasick lol I was ok though and as we were travelling comercial there was loads of food spare ha ha

  • I was on this ship during the force 12 storm, it was terrible but the next morning it was fime!

  • I got off the Pride of Bilbao yesterday (15th July 2010)

We had really bad storms on that voyage (Force 9 gale and 7m waves)! We had to slow down so much, we missed our docking slot in Portsmouth. We didn't get in until midnight (should have got in at 5:00pm)

It was a great ship though!

  • The music is great! What band/performer is that?

  • dose anyone know what the song is

  • dose anyone know what the song is

  • i am going on the pride of Bilbao tomorrow for second time

sad P&O are stopping the service!! 8-(

  • Shame on P & O they are not replacing her closing the route.... like everything in this country!

  • My Mum was on that vessel on the dates specified.

    She was quite frightened!

  • 9 weeks and 3 days on our way.. woooop woooop. cant wait !!

  • DANKE FÜR DIESES VIDEO!!!

  • been on her 8 times since 07, cant get enough, a great ship and if they replace her the cost of travelling would be aweful for us, by the way, whats happened to xmas sails then????

  • sorry, spoke to P & O and they are not replacing her, and closing the route

  • I love the Pride of Bilbao, but as Greekantonis says the smoking room on the top deck is awful. We're going to get booked up again. Mind you though, Bilbao's a bit of a dump.

  • i was on it in a gail 10 was great fun but bring back smoking i hate that smoking room on top deck its abit riffy lol

  • @greekantonis dont go in it then?

  • booked up for april, june and september...wicked!!! ohhh the fun we do have on this boat!!!

  • whats the name of this song?

  • wow, the waves are really big.

    i would be scared

  • She is very good ship... I have sailed with her sister Ship Mariella... and I have only good memorys:D

  • gonna try and book this as much as i can this year as the last crossing of the bilbao is 27th sept 2010...gonna miss it...ohhh the fun times on this ship x

  • Mate - the mini cruise! Bang on. We went 3 years ago mate. Great crew, and a ship big enough to explore. Channel, blue, then she swings SW into Atlantic, deep black. Great fun. Don't forget to examine Bilbao, you can see bits of it in a couple of hours. And then, back to Blighty. T

  • Class! I am planning to be on this ship from 24-27 December. I am looking forward to it so much.

  • It's a shame her last sailing is now the 27th September :(

  • going this wednesday, the 25th nov. leaving england for good and return to portugal. the weather is not very good at the moment, hope its ok on wednesday.

  • on 2:48 that's a really big wve!!!

  • I just got back home from coming off of The Pride of Biliao. We experienced a force 9 and they have cancelled their route leaving tomorrow - because the weather predictions are a force 12, a force 13 is that of a tornado.

  • The Pride of Bilbao is built for that route, although she handles the force 9 and 11-12 pretty well.

  • Good Music - and the ship - go for it girl!

  • ive flown, many, times, yet i still prefer sea travel, much more fun, great chance to make new freinds!! ALSO, if anything goes wrong, ican swim better than i can fly!!! lol

  • Going back on the pride of bilbao on the 4th of nov.. 3 weeks and i cannot wait, be my 8th time keep going back for more!! love it! anyone else going on the 4th of next month???

  • came back on tuesday and gonna book for april

  • booked up again for next sat

  • went on this ferry early this year just brill and the entertainment was fantastic some advise on the eating side is go to the langan`s brasserie for about £6 more you get treated like a king and it is worth it. I will definitely go on it again .

  • Just came off this ferry last night. Had a great time and the video will be online by tonight.

  • it was like that when i went on the ferry its really not nice

  • Whats the music I like it?

  • brilliant video by the way....experience is much different when your actually in it..lol. have brilliant time on that boat..its value for money for a short break and its such a laugh.

  • my mate went on brittany ferries over to spain and she reckons it was a worse experience and much more costly....so she aint gonna grumble about the pride of bilbao

  • had awesome time on ship....just shame about the troublemakers on there but you get that anywhere you go when the idiots cant handle thier booze.

  • I was on the Pride of Bilbao around 1995 I think and in Biscay the only way I can describe it is the waves side on to us were MOUNTAINS and the ship seemed to drop about 100 foot into huge VALLEYS in between the mountains each side. Ive never seen waves that big on youtube or on Tv ever.

  • nice video! check out my video on indepedence of the seas in rough seas! its similar

  • i'm going to the Pride of Bilbao to Spain tonight!

  • what is the music plz!

  • I was on that ferry!!!!

  • Been a few times now but havnt yet experienced any real rough sea, i see this video was shot in october and my next cruise is the end of october so bit of luck we might get some wavey action!!

What is the background music and any ideas where i can get it its brilliant!

  • I love this ferry

I go on it every August to Spain then often have 2 weeks in spain then come ba ck on this ferry.

I'm going on it on 28th July and coming back on it some when in August.

    It always does from ~Port

  • Sorry i write again

    it always does from

    Portsmouth - Bilbao

Leave at 11pm (English Time) at night from Portsmouth then you'd have the next day on the ferry all day. then the next day arrive in Bilbao at 8am (Spanish time).

    From Bilbao - Portsmouth

Leave Bilbao at 12pm or 1pm (Spanish time) then

arrvie in Portsmouth next day at 5pm (English time).

  • Brilliant - love the video. Takes me back - I worked on board in the band for nearly a year and we had some pretty rough crossings! The ship actually has a really rigid hull as it was originally used in areas where it had to be able to break through ice - this makes it really cool in bad seas as there is no 'give' in the hull so you take the full impact of any waves. Fantastic!

  • do you know what year and date you filmed this vid

  • Muy buen video, da una clara imagen de lo que es el Golfo de Vicaya cuando la meteorología se pone adversa.

  • I am going on this wicked cruise again the end of feb, i absolutly love it on there this will be my 6th time in the past year, everytime i get off i just wanna get straight back on lol

  • same ere im adicted!!!happy sailing!! were on boared 27.8.09!!

  • could we have the name of the song please??? thanks a lot!

  • Going Again In May , My 2nd Time , Bit Sea Sick But I Loved It , xx

  • hi im a 2nd able seaman on the QM2, you think this is bad, right out in the middle of the atlantic its like being chucked in a blender. at port the QM2 looks mighty huge, but once you are out on the pond, you are nothing, we once had a force 12 gale on the QE2 in 1996, it was on the world cruise, and no one could have meat or hard vegetables because the chefs would chop their fingers off if they tried to do something fancy. they all wore chainmail like knights!

  • I wasin a force 10 on the Pride of Bilbao in 1994ish. It lasted all the way to Spain and back again. It was at Christmas and the trees were falling all over the place. I loved it lol

  • nice video

    lovely weather

    nice music

  • nice video went 5 weeks ago on a booze cruise will definately do it again soon :0, anyone no the best time to gowhen it will be rough ? ? ? ? ?cos it was like a millpond when i went had wicked time pulled on the first night 2! touch

  • Cool

That must have been quite scary =]

Lol Alistair McFadyen must have had a hard time controlling that beast (or however you spell it My name is Alastair - spelt different)

  • Im going again in 2 or 3 weeks, will be my 8th time(i live in Spain so its my bus home)....love it! Worst weather ive been in was a force 10, still good fun.

  • im going on the same cruse 31st of october, and this and other videos make me more excited about this, and it will be the first time on a cruse ferry, i have been on the ferry from dover to france, and one to isle of wight, so this sound great, ill write back with my story after :D

  • I was on this same ship on 2 dec.2005 traveling to bilbao when we hit a force 11 gale. The ship was being thrown around like a cork in a flushing toilet. During the night it was impossible to sleep even after a bottle of JD between two of us. People were screaming and it stunk of fags and vomit everywhere. At one point as I lay in my bunk the ship leaned so far I nearly stood up against the wall. As daylight broke the storm was still raging but we just had to venture out to see it with our own

  • eyes. Looking out of stern windows the wall of water that was hitting us was taller than the ship!!. I can honestly say I've never been so scared and I got to the point were I wanted the ship to go down to put an end to it. I'm not religeous but I now Know what hell is and I never want to go there again. We laugh about it now but I honestly thought my time was up and we weren't going to make it. Anyway I'd love to hear from anyone who was on that same crossing with similar stories :)

  • And it would have been a long way down. The south half of the trip to bilbao is off the continental shelf, and it is 4 kilometers to the sea bed.

  • Where is all the spew?

    Oh, it's in Jason's sleeve.

  • I've been on that boat and the weather was fine - go in April ha ha!

  • whats the name song ?

  • what month was this video filmed because im going on that ship in two weeks and that looks a little to rough lol

  • whats the song name__

  • mmmm!! yep i must say i really do miss this ship,

i used to be a member of staff on ship, the only problem was very very very long hours, didn't really complain tho when on Monday morning in Portsmouth 8am stepping off ship with £500.00 in ya pocket - past all that now sea life crewing ltd is all in the past!! lol

  • what was your job on the ship?

  • Ha whatever the agency gave me, its all agency workers on there see Half English, half Spanish That was something to do with docking in bilbow so i heard they had to take half Spanish to be able to dock in bilbao, weather that's true that's another thing ha, Why you ask anyway was you workin on there as well or have done ?

  • Hello guys, Gotta leave a quote to my own post here - raverbaby2001 (1 year ago) On Page 4 of comments,

Anyway Good News After 8 years, I have decided to go back to P&O FERRIES to work, They are recruiting again except this time its a different agency this time around, I have had to do some home work on it, but i will Return sometime in AUGUST 2009. Can't wait lol

  • Does this ferry route really take 3 days!? And is this ship bigger than the Pride of Rotterdam/Hull?

  • 3 days to bilboa and back, me n my mates went on octber last year for a binge drink! it was fab, men striping and geting locked up! u shud try it lol

  • what song is this ?

  • ill be going on this round about 30th of october this year and im looking forward to this part lol

  • ohh mighty biscay! yeah, I've experienced this (even more severe) in the baltic sea on the way to sweden, it was crazy cause of the baltic waves which are much crazier than biscays. I really do enjoy storms on proper ships, yachts, but them ferries are all shaking and feel kind of very insecure :/ ain't gonna ride again...

  • Horrible storm, I know that ship well, it is built in Finland, where I live, it's name then was Viking Olympia and it's owner was very popular finnish shipping company Viking Line. It's sister ship is still in Viking Line named as Mariella, I love that ship. Olympia and Mariella are great ships. That reminds about Estonia, the Titanic of the Baltic sea. :(

  • Thanks for the Vid.... It reminds me why I fly to Spain......

  • wow i have been on this

    cruise 3 times and have

never seen the weather that bad.

i am also going on it the 27th

    of this month.

  • I'm visualizing being in a small craft, better have some scuba equiptment, and plan to stay under for a day. neat video

  • I got back back off my 2nd cruise on this ship just before christmas, the weather was really bad on the way there, it was so bad captin mcfadyen had to cancle the sailing back and we had to remian in dock in bilbao for 3 extra days before we could sail back, it was good having the extra time on there so we was on there just under a week. Even tho the sailing there was rough we still had a exellent time, and booking up to go back on for a 3rd time in a couple of months, cant wait!

  • Oooooo... Scary stuff!

  • Hi, I was on this very mini cruise and it was very scary but at the same time exciting. It was like a sick ship lol 90% of passengers and crew being sick. Crew where fantastic and very helpful throughout!!! Elaine Sheehan from sunny Bognor Regis

  • im going on it again on thursday, hhope the weather is good, its been bad weather this weekend so the sailing was probly rought hopfully weather is good next weekend lol.

  • me609

i thhink ur rite i love ferries now but i think i wud feel like im flyin in them waves haha

  • i think i would of shit myself. cool vid

  • I went on this ferry bout 5 weeks ago absolutly loved it, had a really calm sailing both ways, had a wicked time, loved it so much were booked up to go back on it again in 2 weeks, good to go with a group of mates for a drinking weekend lol. nice video. cheers

  • that storm looks good. catain did the right thing not to go over the top of the waves. how high were the waves, massive.

  • now i love ferrys, i like a a bit rockinsess. but that weather is just really too much to handle. then again it looks really wild and exciting! i love p&o ferries

  • haha i was on this last year. i can remember them shutting the top 2 decks but cant remember if they shut the bottom one, i can also remember the duty free was a mess. bottles perfume chocolate the lot was every where falling off the shelfs. i just come off the Bilbao cruise yesterday and it was a very smooth sailing thank god! ha

  • omg that looked like so much fun bein on that ship. r u still alowed outside of the ship when there's a massive storm like that?

  • cool! i have just got back off that mini cruise, weather was perfect but i would have liked to have experienced that!

  • At this point, sea legs become very useful.

  • simplemente... uauuuu alucinante

  • Es un video brutal, alucinante, fuera de lo comun. No me gustaría para nada estar ahi pero el video, excelente.

  • What an excellent video

However unlike most other people, i get to see the real thing onboard the ship most weeks. People see these situations and automaticly assume that the whole ship closes down, and everyone remains in the cabins.I will be honest, ive been through weather much rougher than that, and It really is not comfortable at all. I have worked on the boat for four years, and its only twice that the weather has ever been so bad, that we have had to close the bars!

    Well done anywayz!!

  • Hi, just found your video, very nice! Could you tell me the name of the music, just fell in love with it!!! Thanx, regards :)

  • I worked for p+o ferries and the one thing you learn is they always sail in any weather even when other ferry companies do not, its very tireing to work in.

  • Nice video. I have been on that ship a long time ago, when Finish Viking Line (original owner) had it, under the name M/S Olympia. It sailed between Stockholm and Helsinki.

Are they not running a bit too fast in this rough weather? Remember that the M/S Estonia catastrophy was probably caused by the ship running into very heavy seas (waves of up to 30 ft was reported) too fast. The bow visor fell of and ripped the hatch of also. Over 850 people died.

  • The ships Masters will slow the vessel to the appropriate safe speed. Its unfortunate that you chose to mention the Estonia. Just because a ship is in rough weather does NOT mean its will have its bow visor ripped off and sink. The Bilbao is NOT the Estonia. Its like saying just because you drive a car you WILL die in a car accident because someone died in a car in 1908. Your comment is not helpful to people who are already nervous of the sea and have to travel.

  • Thats it ,ive booked it,going 12 August I must be mad,but cant wait.

  • I've been on the Pride of Bilbao a few times, and I remember once when it was like that, At the time we was just leaving Spain. I loved it! However I did have that thought running through my mind hoping that it didn't get any worse. I asked one of the crew on board and he said that on a scale of 1 to 10, that was about a 4 LOL!

Great video, deserves 5 stars! :)

  • I did the Pride of Bilbao Mini Cruise from Portsmouth in December 2005. It was £40 per person with 2 for the price of one (I know why now).. The ship was 4 hrs late leaving and we were offered a refund as it was going to be rough. We were 6hrs late arriving and were off the boat for 2hrs before returning again. I would never do this trip in the winter but the ship is spectacular with many great facilities and lots to do.

  • That is some wild weather. We get storms here on the West Coast of Canada but nothing like that! I love stormy crossings on our ferries. What is the name of the music in the video???

  • Please, what name of this music???

    I not remember...XD

    please, send to my Page

  • Para qué habré visto el vídeo... El año que viene tengo que coger el ferry para ir a Londres de viaje de estudios, y ya me he cagao!! XD

  • i went to bibao on 23 march 2007 and the weather on the way back was rough

  • i'm going into the merchant navy (driving ships) this just makes me what to do it even more music adds this videos alot

  • viajen por el Cabo de Hornos y conocerán lo que es una VERDADERA tormenta ...

  • wow, I live in Bilbao, and have often thought of getting the ferry to England, just for a change, I've heard it can be rough, now I think ill definetley stick with the plane!

  • Just wanna ad that "Pride of Bilbao" have its origin in the Baltic Sea as M/S Olympia. Her sister ship still sails between Sweden-Finland. Her name is M/S Mariella :-)

  • I would poop my pants if one of those waves would come against me. I´m lucky that the waves doesn`t get that big in the Baltic Sea :p

  • well done the captain and crew

  • Muy bueno, algún día viajaré en él

  • sweet vid :) would of loved to of been onboard :)

  • i love bilbao!!! joder k somos la ostia kawen la puta jajajajaja eso es un mar salvage..ac falta mas de eso!

  • Great video! Thanks for the post.

  • wow that's bad, I wonder what was going through the captains mind.

  • newda898 - its surprising how quickly you get used to the weather conditions. the only problem i ever have is the sidewards lurching of the vessel. It keeps on going and you start willing the ship to stop and go the other direction.... but thats all part of the experience!

  • Just wondering how long the one way trip is? I'm thinking of doing it on my next trip to europe.

  • One way trip takes about 36-37 hours,P and O do a return mini cruise where you only stay in Bilbao about 2 hours and then back to portsmouth again, the last time I made enquiries it was about £60.00 per person.

  • Wooo, wouldn't want to be in the force 11/12 bit for much longer!

  • That was one epic storm. Is it normal for that ferry to put out to sea in that weather?

  • it may not have been like this when he left port, weather can change in an instant.

ferries have to try to stick to a timetable so there is minimal disruption, and if the captain feels it is safe to go he will, he might not have expected that when he left.

but there is a phrase "your timetable is flexible but your ship isnt"

  • Nice video!
