If, as you say, it's been lying for 7 years it's bound to smoke. If it was me I would have squirted 2t oil in plugholes and everywhere I could before I tried to start it.

once they warm up they dont smoke so bad. I use the castrol TTs, synthetic low smoke. You almost cant see it once its up to temp
