Okay, you mentioned it. I thought it looked like a Wollensak I used to own. It's pretty clear sounding at 1 7/8 decks. Back in the 80's you would have thought you died and gone to heaven as thrift stores were filled with portable reel to reels. I don't have them anymore, but I had a Wollensak (much like Clydesight's), a Concord 300 (manufactured by Panasonic) and a horrible GE unit which I believe Clydesight also has one like and is not too thrilled with it.
i have the same recorder. Mine is in rough shape. The ac power does work but i need to find a cord to fit it also the speaker is missing and the level meter does not work. mine also does not record on 1 7/8 speed. it turns ok but no sound. it sounds great through headphone or external speaaker. Mine is also a lighter green. hope i can get the parts i need to get it to work.
A very nice machine! The only thing missing from the RCA and Wollensak is the 3 digit counter. How does it set EQ for the different speeds? It looks very mint and sounds good! SO now we know who was behind the Wollensak and RCA machines, Sanyo. I bet they made a LOT of machines for other manufacturers. Thanks for the video!
George Harrison - All Those Years Ago! What a nice surprise to hear that song. Would like to hear the machine through a speaker in a cabinet! Also I thought Magnavox were the US part of Philips?
nice sounding unit on both speeds, me too I hope WMG doesnt get this b/c thats B.S. what they do. I recently put up a video of a toy megaphone that I modified to accept inputs and outputs and the track I used was this audio podcast I found about the so-called secret tracer chemicals in swimming pools. I did play some music thru it but only briefly and most of the time having the voice changer altering the audio. 5:17 thats an old speaker and it sounds pretty good.
What was the first song you played? I haven't heard it in years. Nice R2R , it sounds good even at 1 7/8ips, now why cant they have that equalization on all reel to reels? Even my sharp doesn't have that and it can still run at that speed.
Wow, thatz very nice Maggie and the sound quality is amazing too! Whoever got this for you is not only cool, but a true friend too! I would love to got a Magnavox stereo R2R deck for my 1968 Magnavox receiver.
Yup. It seems like those mechanics were quite popular at the time. Just like that modern cassette transport you see in almost all modern cassette recorders!-2 belts, spindles with spokes to go between all the cassette's spokes, instead of 3 like most vintage machines have. You should recognize the mechanism. It has the order of REC-PLAY-REW-FF-STOP/EJECT-PAUSE.

When the capstan sleeve is put in the storage post, it touches another metal contact to complete the circuit for the equalization change.

That is a very clever idea! The old machines were very creative.

Norelco was the US Philips. But Magnavox had ties with Philips I think still today or at least recently.

That's one heck of a machine! The EQ circuit for the 1 7/8 ips speed really enhances the quality!
Those are AWESOME batteries!

Very interesting reel-to-reel. It's an interesting coincidence that your RCA and Clydesight's Wolensak 3500 are practically the same.
