  • thanks for sharing

  • cool

  • their adorable that is a well place for a budgie.

  • my budgie lost its sister and it always flies away when we come near it when it was with its sister it was ver well tamed still is now but it flies away when we come near it what should i do

  • This I'd so cute.

    I onl have one budgie.

He is a boy and he seems pretty happy.

Where did you get that beautiful bird tree?

I want to bird one but I don't know where.

  • @angel4eveme We built that bird tree ourselves. It's mainly some bamboo sticks put into a bowl of concrete and then we put some branches around it, not hard to build. Hm, why don't you try to get another budgie? I'm sure your budgie would love that. Yesterday I watched one of my couples crawl each other for about 20 minutes, that was so cute! You should have seen how much they enjoyed that, I think no human can really substitute a budgie partner.

  • @Holzfisch If I get one budgie an go to school but before school I spend as much time as I can with it and after school I would literally be with it 24/7 and on the weekends I would be with it all the time and never away. WILL IT GET LONELY?

  • @sammymunir Yes, the bird will get lonely. You can never substitute a budgie partner. The birds will fly together, crawl each other, feed each other, play with each other, sing together and so on and you won't be able to do all that with your bird. Why not get a couple? It's so much nicer to have two happy birds instead of one who believes he's human because he is so lonely and is desperate for company. Two birds will probably also become tame if you spend so much time with them.

  • Girls won't let him near, and another, bigger cock pecks him. Is there anything I can do? Coca is a lovely and sociable bird, but all his attempts to court the girls end up a total fiasco. Not sure if buying the third hen will help. She may also like another cock, who, I have to say, looks one hunk of a budgie, very masculine, and seems to have time for several hens.

  • How old is the little male budgie? If he is younger than about half a year the females won't like him and think that he's still a baby. But I also have one male budgie who never gets a female even though he's handsome. But the females mostly go for the alpha male budgie, not much you can do about it. I used to have a cock that ALL females wanted. But as long as they have company I think the budgies are happy, even if they don't get a female partner.

  • Your video is the most informative one on youtube. If people do all the things you recommend for your budgies, they will have very happy pets.

I have a question, if I may. I have four budgies. I firs bought a couple (who have never become a couple, because a hen didn't like the cock), and then another couple, who get along very well. However, now both girls like the bigger cock, and he takes care of both, and my little Coca is left out.

  • Well, I have 9 budgies now and among those 3 couples. But all of them tend to flirt around and none is really left out. It's of course easier when you have more birds than just 4. Is Coca now really left out or does he still fly and play with the other birds?

  • I'm so glad that even some people understand to keep their birds on a flock and wings not clipped! Your birds look so lovely and just by watching this video i can tell they have a good, loving home. I just hate those people who keep their budgies alone and clip their wings for ''taming''. Taming is teaching your bird to trust, not pushing their chests and grabbing them. I'm so tired of commenting those guys who are so sure for that old wing clipping method.

    5 stars and sub.

  • Thanks! Yes, I am happy that wing clipping is not allowed over here in Germany. Some people just don't have enough patience to get the trust of their birds and don't seem to enjoy their company without them being tame pets, that's sad. And it's so nice to see them play with each other, fly and sing together and to see them fall in love, I'll always prefer that to any tame bird who thinks he's human.

  • great thanks! my dad gave me his budgie & what food & water with the cage! he was always a bit quiet and looked bored whenever i visited, he looked like he was about to drop of his perch and die :) not saying my dad is a bore or anything, you know, diferent strokes lol! so i just played a few videos when i got in to help him to chill ect & calm his nerves! not sure what age or sex but he is a bit cherpier! now he's being social or telling me to go away & let him sleep! who knows? hehe, thanks!

  • Great to hear you took your dad's budgie. But your budgie indeed is probably quite lonely and bored being on his own. Can you get him a partner budgie? Some male budgie should work either way if it's a male or female budgie. Your budgie would love to get a friend and would be much happier!

  • yea thanks i was planning to get a male buddy & a brand new cage a little bigger. im sure its a she now from the dark color above the beak she eats all the baby leave spinach & carrot spears that i give her eats it when i hold it in my hand too but no way will she get on my finger or let me pick her up so im gonna leave it at that for now and get the other bird with a cage. theres a white budgie in the pet shop & some cool £50 cages & £12 budgies plus toys & perches. thanks for your help

  • omg i named my budgy skyler too

  • Please Help Me! I Have 2 Female Budgies I Got About A Month Apart And It Has Been A Year In January. I Just Got A Baby Blue Budgie Named Skyler And He Became Friends WSith My Littler Budgie Sunny. Sunny And Lizzy Were BEST FRIENDS Until He Came. I Dont Want To Say I Regret Gettingh Skyler But Everytime Lizzy Gets Near Sunny SHe She Will Agressivly Squack And Shoo Her Away. Are ThesemBest Friends Becoming Enimies?!?!

  • 3 budgies is not a good combination, one will always be left out. Now that the one female got the male she will take care that the other girl doesn't get him. I think all you need to do is get another male budgie, then the 4 should get along fine again.

  • is that grass at 2:10?

  • Yes, that's grass. All my budgies love to eat the grass seeds, they can nibble for hours on it.

  • I am getting a budgie not 2 but I have afinch I wont keep them in the same cages but will keep him company like so he isent always alone?

  • No, sorry, that's not a good idea. The budgie and the finch won't talk the same language. They will get along fine I think, but they need a partner of their own kind to get happy. Whenever I had other birds than budgies here my budgies totally ignored them. Please get either just another finch or two budgies and another finch, that'd be much better for the birds.

  • just one little correction, budgies don't need grit

  • Well, there seem to be different opinions about this topic in Europe and in the US. My bird-specialised vets here think that budgies do need grit.

  • So you never let the birds fly outside of their cage yet? They need to fly around the room of course. You'll have to make the room bird-save, take out everything that's poisenous (plants...), let the birds learn where the windows are (put some blinds or peaces of paper all over the windows and remove these slowly after about 2 weeks), take care that they can not fall behind cupboards and so on. And they need some places to land, some branches, a bird-tree or alike.

  • I think if they get the possibility to fly they'll get less scared because they could escape if you'd get too close. And then you'll have to approach them very slowly, talk to them softly and I'm sure they'll get less nervous. If they'll become tame depends on their personality. But it always takes some time before a budgie will give you his trust.

  • can some 1 help me? i have had my budgie for about 2 weeks now and he was fine to start with but after a while hes becoming a little agressive. he comes on my hand and come on my shoulder and head ect and hes not that scaired of me. when i put my hand near him he will make a wiered noise and bite ( its not hard ) i dont want him to act this way. he usally acts like this in the night when hes tired wich is fine but i don't want him to become more aggresive. hes about a month and a halff old btw.

  • You have only one budgie, don't you? Was he wing-clipped? It's totally normal that he doesn't always like your company, e.g. when he's tired. And if he's then still on your shoulder it seems to be that he may not be able to fly away? He definitely needs at least another budgie for company to be happy. Just imagine what a change that means to be taken away from a breeder's budgie flock and now just to be with a human who doesn't really speak budgie language. And also he needs to fly to be happy.

  • yes i have 1 budgie but i his wings arnet cliped i think it's kinda cruel. but thnx 4 the help. he can fly around the house when he wants to be let out and he can fly away off my shoulder no prob. but thnx 4 da help

  • Good that he can fly. But please think about getting him a budgie partner. Budgies are flock birds and need social contact with other budgies. He'd be happier than ever if you get another budgie. Please have a look at this site

    birds-online(dot)de(slash)einz elhaltung(slash)einzelhaltung_ en(dot)htm

  • yup i have showed her, and i don't think she has grasped the idea that buzz needs a friend too..

    i'll keep asking though

  • before i get a 2nd bird though ill need to get a bigger cage to accommodate it for the night. buzz during the day roams my room and i leave food and water out so he doesn't get hungry.

but i asked my mum again and she said no.

  • If your bird can fly freely all day long I think a bigger cage is not that important right now. Budgie company for your bird is much more important to my opinion. Did your mum have a look at the webpage on solitary keeping? Two budgies still don't make that much dirt, and it's so nice to see a lonely budgie get happy when he gets a partner (I adopted quite a few lonely ones, have a look at my Grobi videos :) ).

  • I'll try and talk her around. i should try and get him a nice lil girl birdie then we can have baby birds =o

i think I'll get a partner from the breeder i got my bird from. the breeder i got buzz from is really nice and he loves everyone of his birds

  • Great, I hope this will work out. Well, your mum won't be happy about baby birds if she is not too fond of even having a second one ;). But if your budgies don't have a dark place to hide in they won't lay eggs.

Just try to get a grown-up partner budgie (older than about 6 months). If you put a baby budgie to a mature one the mature one might take a lot more time to accept the baby budgie as a partner. The baby could even annoy the older one a bit since they are so active :).

  • VERY nice, and good information!

  • no, i would love to get him one, but my mum says one bird is enough.

  • Hm, that's tough. I guess your mum just doesn't know how much a budgie needs a partner. No human being can be there 24 hours a day, fly with him, sing with him, caress him and so on.

Maybe this site can convince your mum (take out the blanks and substitute the dots and slashes)?

  • my bird Buzz, bathes under the tap. he tries to attack the running water and climb up it. and then he'll sneeze and go slightly all puffed up.

  • very cute bird, but does he have a budgie partner?

  • i dont wanna clip their wings but how can i keep them from sufering a heart attack if she flys into a window at full speed? i will clip her wings until i no how to keep her safe.

  • If a bird flies at full speed into a window it would probably suffer a broken neck. But of course you have to make your budgies learn where the windows are so that this will not happen. I put little pieces of paper, some blinds/jalousies or post-its on the windows for about 2 weeks, then I can remove those bit by bit. After those about 2 weeks all my birds knew where the windows are.

  • Is there any problem if they eat some ornamemental plant leaves?

  • Well, that depends on the sort of plant of course. There are many plants that are poisenous for budgies. I only have a couple of non-poisenous plants left in our living room. But there should be some information on the internet which plants are save and which are not.

  • Thank you for answering, I'll keep them out of suspicious plants.

  • Spinach leaves are favourite of budgies as well as Green Coriander.

  • Lucerne or Lucerne Grass (also called Alfalfa) and Purslane leaves are also very much liked by budgies....

  • What is Corinader ? i can't find its name in my natural language (which is portuguese)

  • though these are not ornamental, but just for information

  • no, no! actualy I know what is Coriander, but I don't what is this Purslane , i never heard of

  • Yes Coriander , sorry for typo....

    and Purslane is

  • ur budgies are so cute!

  • If you have male and female together won't they end up mating?

  • Of course they do mate from time to time :). But they normally don't lay eggs as long as they have no dark place to hide in. So it's pretty easy to keep them from having baby budgies.

  • only if theres a nest box in the cage

  • wow lots of great advice to make sure budgies live happy & healthy. love the salad bath!! ill be trying that with my 4 birds.

  • Sehr schön!

I have one too with all the good stuff in the cage.

It began 2001 my first budgie, I went with my dad into a store and he said I should choose one of the budgies. there was only a couple left and i had to chose 1!

he was really sad all his life.

then 2004 a budgie landed on our balcony and we picked him up and had a couple!

    god sent him!

but 2006 or 7 the first one was sick and died.

now i have the little angel left wich is poorly alone but happy enough. the story must go on.

    peace

  • So are you going to get your budgie a partner budgie again?

  • i have a boy budgie and a girl budgie, they r tame and only the boy bites a little bit. should i get another bird? i want a blue parakeet

  • Hm, 3 is not a good number, since you'll likely have one budgie couple and one left out one. I'd rather get another budgie couple.

  • My baby budgie had his wings clipped at the petstore, but we made sure they werent too short, so he can fly, very well actually (got up on top of the fan just before, lucky it wasnt on!)

But he cant go up up and away and fly away, we've done this because we live near a big city. Youre budgies look really happy! Ours is too, right now he's nestled up in my hair :)

  • Nice to hear that your budgie can still fly. I also live in a big city, but of course I make sure that none of my budgies can fly away. When I e.g. open the windows they are locked in their aviary. This way it's not necessary at all to clip the wings. And I think that your budgie would like to get some budgie company in addition to his human friends. This way there'd be a budgie to sing, fly and play with 24 hours a day and he'd never have to feel lonely or bored.

  • Yeah, we're buying him a friend in about a month! :)

  • That's a great video!

i got my 2 budgies from 6 months now, i first bought one, i spend a lot of time at home after school soo i had a lot of time for him, but then i thought maybe he would like to have a female budgie company :) and here they are, all happy flying around my room! i'm thinking about buying a bigger cage and get them some more friends. they come to my finger and the male keeps on my shoulder and plays with me outside the cage, the female only trusts me inside the cage tho.

  • Thanks! How nice that you got your male budgie a female friend. Seems like you got some happy birds there. And they sure would like to get even more friends. I always like to adopt some elderly birds which lost their partner or which were on their own, it's so nice to see them get happy again in our flock.

  • You don't think that your budgies hated it not to be able to fly? I think they did. One of my budgies is too old to fly now and sometimes he gets really angry about it. For young budgies it's a critical time to learn how to fly really well and you just cut their wings then. How can you be happy about having some budgies that were forced to be tame? I would always prefer that my budgies make the decision if they want to trust me or not. And if they choose not to, that's fine with me.

  • Right i need help i had a budgie she wer perfect then died so this time i got 2 to keep one another company female & male everytime i try to take them out they bite me which i was used to but they seem really viscious the other one i had depended on me to entrain her had no problem coming outta the cage what do i do? Every time i look in the cage its like a conspiracy going on!

  • Well..i know cliping wing feathers are bad but they do grow back...i dont know if this was wrong but i dont think it was that wrong..i wore soft gloves..then took off the cage lid and let the birds fly..then i caught them and clipped their wings..then the next thing you know..i trained them into perfect angels :)

  • Why are you worried? Your budgies will become tame if you just be nice and patient. And I don't see why you want to take them out of the cage, can't they fly out of it on their own? Your budgies will be a lot happier because they have company than the budgie you had before. So don't be sad because they aren't tame yet, it' so much fun to just watch happy budgies and I'm sure that they will trust you if you wait a little longer.

  • It should mean more to us if the budgie becomes tame because he trusts us and not because he was forced to.>>>>

This is excellent what you said (above)

Your video, cage setup, play tree, everything looks as you created a budgie heaven. They do look as they enjoy living there.

  • Wonderful! I also keep budgies in an aviary type setting...I have 17! I love to watch them interact as a flock. They're highly entertaining! Mine love lots of fresh foods, too. I also sprout my seeds and grow them wheatgrass, which is a HUGE hit with them! I just had my first clutch of 6, what an amazing experience that was! They're so tiny and helpless, but fledge so quickly! I took tons of pics, of course! Your flock is beautiful, thank you for sharing them!

  • I think the most important thing is that the budgie is happy and not that it's tame. If a budgie will become tame depends a lot on his character, if he wants to become tame he will do so also without clipped wings, and he will be a lot happier if he can fly. It should mean more to us if the budgie becomes tame because he trusts us and not because he was forced to. I have budgies that would never become tame even with clipped wings and most of my budgies are tame without ever being wing clipped.

  • You say that wing clipping is a cruel thing to do, but other websites say that this makes budgies easier to tame when at a young age.

If I should refrain from wing clipping, how can I tame my birds if they can fly away from me?

  • Since when do you have your budgies? And did you keep them inside or outside so far? If they have a heated room in their outside aviary and if they are used to live outside it should be O.K. Normally people with outside aviaries introduce new budgies during spring/summer so that the budgies can adapt to the temperatures before winter.

  • hello!

can anyone plz tell me upto what temperature bugdies can live up to,cause winter is setting here where i live and it gets like 10 d/celcius is it ok to keep them out?or is it to cold?!

    thanks!

  • Hi,

thanks. Yes, your budgie is very lonely. Please get him a budgie partner, he will be so happy about it. If you can try to adopt an elderly budgie (if your budgie is not a baby anymore), then they will communicate a lot better. I always prefer to keep male and female together. I'm sure your budgie will become a lot happier and more active with a budgie partner!

  • Yes, I'm coming to that conclusion because it is sad to see him so unhappy... he seems to enjoy listening to Budgies on YouTube so I would assume he would enjoy company...

... he is also extremely nervous in spite of being here over a month now, we are patient but we thought he would at least be a little bit more used to us now!

  • Well, I also have some budgies that are more scared than other ones. But with the company of their friends they did become a lot less scared of us. Even the most scared one (he will never become tame) is now brave enough to come closer and take some food of our hands.

Don't worry, your budgie will have a lot more fun and I think will also get much easier used to you with a new budgie partner.

  • the same thing happened to our budgie, her partner also died and all she did was stand on the top corner of the cage with her head down looking depressed. she wouldnt move or say anything for 2 days until she heard other budgies on youtube, once she heard them she started to call out for them but she still wouldn't move. after the third day i couldn't stand seeing her depressed so i went out and bought 5 budgies and a bigger cage. its been a week now and she i talking and jumping around again.

  • Great video - I wish my budgie was as active... but he's so depressed!

We took him in because we had friends who couldn't look after him but he doesn't want to interact, doesn't want to play, doesn't want to fly, doesn't want to sing (well, very occasionally), no talking, doesn't want to interact at all in fact... it's very sad to see... apparently he used to have a partner which died... how can I make my budgie happier? :-( I think he may be lonely but I don't just want to put a new bird in...

  • Some budgies are really careful and cautious what they eat. So just keep on trying, sometimes they might start eating the fresh food. But what did you try so far? Also chickweed and fresh grass with seeds? All of my budgies like that.

  • If my budgies choose not to eat whatever fresh food I offer them, do they have to be disposed after a few hours? Please reply.

  • I really like your video. Especially with the subject Wing clipping I agree to you. Many thanks for this nice budgie pictures.

  • where did you get that cage?how many budgies are there?

  • The cage was bought second-hand, it was made for budgies by the previous owner. Right now I have 8 budgies.

  • please wite back

  • i meant thats not healthy

  • i need help mines won't eat that he would just eat plain bird seeds and people tell me thats no healthy so what can i do to make him eat the food like if i try to feed him other stuff i would put it in my hand and he would run away from it and when i put in his food bowl he would look at it then jus ignore it i even tried mixing it with his bird food i guess i probl fed him too much bird seeds that he's addicted to it

  • What sort of bird seed eats your bird? For vitamins and minerals you can also use some vitamin powder to put over the food, I got some from my vet.

And how many budgies do you have? It's always easier with many budgies since one of them may try new food and then the others will start to eat the new food too.

  • If you budgies don't like veggies and fruits you can first of all try chickweed and fresh grass with grass seeds, all of my birds love that. And then you could go on to salad, cucumber, carrots and so on.

  • look the easy way to do this is to buy another budgie who is tamed or eats other things, while your old bird gets comfy with the new bird that eats other things your old bird should eat and follow whAt that new bird eats, this is how i got my two old birds hand tamed and to eat pellets.

  • where did you get your aviary? and how did you make your bird tree........I have 10 little budgies who are out all the time, but I still think they need more things to do. They have a play gym and a play cage that stays open all day, but I would love them to have a bird tree to fly to.

  • The aviary is second-hand. The previous owner had it made especially for budgies.

For the bird tree I just put 4 bamboo bars vertically into a bowl with cement and then connected branches horizontally to the bars.

  • aww thanks for this , i luv it an it helps me to cuz im gettin a budgie soon x

  • Thanks! Great to hear that you'll get a budgie soon. Are you gonna get that budgie a budgie partner as well? He will love not to be alone!

  • Your birds in 0:18 are so cute on the swings, I noly ahve one and I just got her, She doesn't do much but sit.

  • Well, she's probably just bored if she is all on her own. So why not get her a nice handsome male budgie to play with?

  • great video for new owners :)

  • say if you let your bird outside (witch i do) and i let them on there cage and watch them if you dont have wings clipped they will fly away. so ya. not cruel they can get aaround on there feet. but i know its better to have them not clipped but you need to some times.

  • But why don't you let them fly inside your house? Then they can't fly away. I'd say that my birds prefer to fly inside to walking outside. I have one bird now who can't fly any more because he's too old, and he does get angry from time to time, he loved to fly and it is sad to see him miss it so much.

And no, I don't think that any bird 'needs' to be wing clipped ever. A bird needs to fly (and not to be 'trained' or forced to be tame) to be happy.

  • my budgies are very loud but i dont think they move much there still very young

    are they happy?

  • Do you let them fly every day and do you give them some things to play with? If they are loud it seems they are quite active, so that's good :).

  • i cant really let them out because they go mad i got 4 and its hard to get them back in when there scard of me =[ i try to let them out once a week =]

  • Hm, that's not enough, they should be able to fly at least for some hours every day. But if you provide food and water only inside of the cage they should come back in after some time when they become hungry. My budgies can fly around the room all day long, but in the evening they all go inside the aviary all by themselves.

If you let your birds fly more often I'm sure that it'll get easier to get them back into the cage again.

  • I gently wave a fat piece of spray millet in front of my 4 birds and let them watch me put it into their cage. That makes them go in. :)

  • wow~very nice video~i have budgies too~~

  • since tweety bird past away hes much much better... he sits on my arm now and sits with me with out freaking out so yeah i dunno why he never used to be like that when tweety bird was around...

  • my bird tweety bird past away and he had a partner another male budgie, and now belle the male budgie is now alone.. and he never used to be tame until my favorite bird past away tweety used to be so close to me.. and belle just used to do whatever he wanted.. they always go in my room and sit somewhere while i watched tv for like hours and tweety just went to me when he wanted to play... but belle was very agressive i guess you can call it.. he just never would come to me.. and now

  • um do you have any tips in clipping a parakeets wings? It`s still way too dangerous for my parakeets and I want them to be safe. They aren`t quite tame yet do you know how to keep them a little calmer?

  • Of course not! Wing clipping is prohibited in my country and I would never even think about doing that. Make your room bird-save and let your budgies fly, that's what birds need to do. Why would you want them to be calmer? If they decide to become tame that's a gift, but please don't try to force them to be tame.

  • um well uh... when they`re wings were clipped they still got exersice and they were happy... it`s just that when they would 'escape' from their cage the poor things would run into things and I don`t want them to get hurt cause they`re just like my little family to me and I love them alot... I live in the USA though...

  • wow..... are they hand tamed??

  • Some are tame, some are not, that depends on the character of the bird. Some will never be tame, but at least they are not scared too much of me. But I don't consider it to be important, all I want is my birds to be happy :).

  • Sehr gutes Video, viele Haltungsfehler entstehen einfach durch Unwissen... Weiter so!

    ___

Very good video, many faults result from a lack of information. Go on like this!

  • I think this is a very improtant video. It teaches us that parakeets(budgies) are creatures and they deserve to be treated just like humans, its very sweet for you to get seconed hand birds too!

  • yes you csn if its nose is brown is a girl blue is a boy. pink is young. budgies are cute

  • How can you tell if its male or female?

  • u can tell my there nose if it boy i blue and girl im not to sure ....i got to budgies today 2 boys twins so cute thay rub heads of each outher :p

  • For the normal colors boys have a blue nose skin, girls a brownish one. But there are also some special colored budgies like albinoes where the boys have rather pink colored nose skins. For these you can tell if it's a female if she has some small light rings around the nostrils.

  • Thanks. :D

  • I would surely let you have your opinion, but here I think it's not good for the poor bird. I assume he was hand-raised, wasn't he? Don't you think he thinks that he is human and that you are his partner? What do you think he is doing if you have to leave the house if only for some hours? If he was hand-raised it may take some time before he will remember that he is a bird, so you'll have to give him some time to accept a new budgie partner. But if you love your bird you really should try it.

  • I really like this video! It includes lots of important things, like an ebook.

  • I LOVE your cage! It`s awsome! That`s so sweet that you only keep second hand birds :-)

I`ve only had my birdies for a year, they`re 2 girls, which concerns me a little bit. But one of our parakeets started out as a boy, and his cere would change about every 2 months, now it`s stayed brown. They don`t get into big fights (thankfully) they just do a little nip and continue to what they were doing. Actually, a bird expert said that parakeets don`t need little stones. Only some people think that.

  • Maybe you could get two male budgies for your females? They can get along O.K., but I think they would be happier with some male friends.

I think this discussion about grit is going on in the U.S. (I never heard that here in Europe), but all the bird-specialized vets that I know tell me that grit is very important for the birds and that they need it for their digestion.

  • Wow! Nice video! You really know your birdies! :-) We have to get mine clipped wings because it`s dangerous for them to fly without them being clipped. I`ve had bad expiriences, but nobody got hurt :-)

  • If the birds got to know where the windows are (put some post-its or alike on it for a while) and they can not fall behind cupboards, no poisenous things are in the room and so on, so if the room is bird-save then you really can and should let your birds fly. They won't be happy with their wings clipped. Birds really love and need to fly, so please never get them get clipped again!

  • ok thanks, they`re only allowed in my bedroom (since we have 2 dogs) and we`re going to work on my bedroom this summer, so i`ll work on making it parakeet safe :-)

  • My female parakeets fight brutally (once fatal unfortunately) and its weird but mine form sides, they defend nests in flocks, one group defends the other attacks, btw they are like ninjas, thus my username

  • What sort of parrots do you have? And how do you keep them?

  • wats the difference between the blue and the green ones. do only the blue ones learn to talk??

  • Are you kidding? All budgies learn to 'talk', the budgie language :). But so far I did not succeed in learning it :).

The green ones are more like the 'original' wild budgies, all other colors resulted from breeding.

  • what was that at 0:35

  • 2:35 sorry :)

  • That's dried cock's-foot (?) or orchard grass, budgies like that a lot more than other grass seeds.

  • I have a budgie that I bought straight from the breeder, he´s a male and is the most beutiful and talented bird that I´ve had (green of course, since that´s the natural color)he is amazingly sociable, and my wife and I is his flock. We stopped writing down the words that he has learned after two A4 pages,( he´s 4) and he is a amazing little guy! never buy a budgie in a pet store!!

  • Hi, I also love the green budgies. But please, get your budgie a budgie partner (a female would be perfect)! You can't fly, sing, feed him, crawl him and play with him 24 hours a day and that's what he needs to be really happy. No worries, he will still regard you as his flock and be tame, but he will be the happiest bird if he gets a budgie partner.

  • Hej,I know that they "should" have a partner since that´s the natural thing, but he fares no ill, since I´m at home all day, and preen him, feed him seeds and keep him company! And he has mirrors all over the place to talk to wich he doe´s since he´s flying free, he even has a cocktailshaker of he´s own (mine actually)so he´s a happy little guy!

  • Mirrors are dangerous for lonely budgies since they will feed their reflection and then swallow down the food over and over again, this may lead to an inflammation of the crop. Don't you think he is looking for a budgie partner in the mirrors? Believe me, he would be a lot happier with another budgie and I think so would you seeing him so happy. I have one in my flock that is extremely tame and he also talks, but he loves to be with his 10 budgie friends just as much as beeing with us.

  • ye my budgie is feeding himself in the mirror, and he also likes to lick mirrors and metals... ill try and put a video up for you to see

  • Do you have only one budgie? Then get another one and this should stop. And also, please take out all mirrors of the cage, they are no good for budgies. I should have included that in my video.

  • hey there, i put a video up of my budgie, see for yourself.

but ye thanks, ill definately do that

  • I was looking at some baby budgies at a pet store today and I noticed that each budgie had one of thier wing half cut off!I thought to myself, those bloody bastards have hurt the poor birds!FUCK YOU BUDGIE HATERS!

  • Well, the wings were probably not really cut off but 'just' clipped, so that the feathers will grow back after some months time (I hope). I also don't understand why pet stores sell budgies that can not fly and why people seem to like the poor birds like that. Why don't they get e.g. a rabbit if they don't want their pet to fly?

  • tell me about it!

  • i have two baby budgies n i got them 3 days ago n dey r already used to me

  • Wonderful video, it is very informative. You have a fantastic set up for your budgies and they look extremely well cared for!

  • I like to keep budgies in groups of three or more so just in case one dies they still have each other but if it's pair then if one dies then the living one sometimes will not eat/drink and die or be deppressed

  • little oey made me watch this, he said avoid cats, he did get out the window one day, he never seen aq hawk but he got back home, there was also an owl out there joey my little bud

  • r my budgies the only ones who dont use their cuttlebones to trim their beak, nails? she just bites on it n chews thinkin its food but i have seen her takin a bath a couple of times n believe me its the cutest thing a budgie can do!

  • well cuttlebone provides budgies wit calcium so dont panic!

  • i admit it is cute

  • tyvm, cute video and very helpful, now i might need to get a partner for my budgie

  • aw very cute

  • Loved the video and learned something from it, could have done with a voice over I had to pause to read it as I'm slow at reading :) Keep up the great work.

    Christy

  • I am planning an update of this video with voice-over instead of text, but that might take some more time :)

  • Nice video!

  • That was a GREAT video ,, Thanx alot for posting it ,,

are u breeding ur Budgies or just sheltering them?

and if u r breeding them can u post a video of it ..

    thanx

  • No, I'm not breeding as there are already so many budgies which need a better or new home. I am only adopting elderly budgies of people who couldn't keep them any more.

  • my budgie just died today and the other two look realy sad and they arent even moving what can i do? plz help

  • I'm sorry to hear that. I also lost two birds recently and the other birds (8 were left) were not extremely sad (only one that lost its partner, but also she was O.K. after some days). It seems to be easier for the bird the larger the flock is.

Maybe you could get two more birds? I also got a new budgie today from the animal shelter and the other birds seem to be happy that he's here now.

  • thnx i will try to get 2 more maybe 1.Should i get very young or kind of old

  • Even numbers are better than odd numbers if you have not very many budgies so no one is left out when there is a couple or so.

If your budgies are older than about 6 months you should also get older ones, because adult budgies prefer adult ones to baby budgies.

  • your video is verry educational and has helped me with a few things about how to keep my budgie [soon to be budgies]

my dad clipped my birds winges, and they havent grown back at all, like theyv just died, which is really sad coz i want him tobe able to fly.

  • Hi, I'm glad that you liked the video and especially that you will get your budgie a partner! It may take up to a year until the feathers will be fully grown back, I hope that your bird will be able to fly again.

  • what types of branches do u use? Ive been really wanting to put some real branches in but even after researching all the poisonous bramches im still to scared to put any in.

  • You can take all sorts of fruit trees, oak tree, beech tree, dried birch tree, willow, hazelnut tree, corkscrew willow, maple, mountain ash, alder and so on. Just take care that the tree is far away from roads or other pollution sources.
