  • War Games are really Cool.

  • Fuck you google

  • The computer given away as the door prize is actually a TRS-80 Model III. It was the second incarnation of Radio Shack's consumer micros (after the Model I--the Model II was a business class computer). As you can see, everything was in one case, as opposed to the Model I where the disk drives, keyboard, and monitor were separate pieces. This was actually a cassette-based Model III, with "prosthetic" plates in the disk drive bays.

  • fuck google

  • Loved this movie growing up.

  • serGAY

  • sooo....google has a channel? that's new....

  • War Games sucked.

  • Why the shitty audio? Is it because of the tube?

  • 12m28s computer games are what all computer people have in common, it is what brings people together, it is the original application and the original program, 1+1=0 for pleasure

"the thing that binds them all together is games"

  • Für Filmliebhaber absolut sehenswert. Auch der Audiokommentar auf der DVD lohnt sich!

  • Craig Silverstein is my endochronologist's son

  • What is a endochronologist?

  • did anyone watch all of this?

  • i did.

  • i did, i loved it

  • @drumkiter yes

  • @TheTopBloke fucking hell get a life!

  • @drumkiter This is my life. I'm writing a book on the subject.

  • Hillarious xD the bad joke and the loud one-man laugh following it! 00:12

    ...Check out my vids...-.-

  • I'll be adding a different and expanded perspective on WarGames at the upcoming DEFCON. See the DEFCON d-t org home page regarding the 25th anniversary screening of WarGames for more info and my fireside chat with the Dark Tangent.

BTW, also see the forthcoming August (2008) issue of Wired. I'm noted by the lead author of a retro feature on WarGames as "the model for David Lightman." Scott (the lead author) is mentioned by both Larry or Walter (or both) during this panel at Google.

  • Some brief responses to some comments made by Walter:

    1) The space warfare theme that was originally tossed around in Q1 '79 was my idea and he ridiculed it during the panel. In fact, I felt that the idea of breaking into the Blue Cube wasn't such a big deal. Also, space warfare became a hot topic in the late 70's, so it was much more timely then than it is now.

  • 2) Although the title wasa indeed "The Genius," remember that a "genius" is one out of 50 people. Probably applies to just about everyone attending DEFCON!!

    3) However, Walter claimed that most Googlers could be David Lightman. He's dead wrong. There's an element to David Lightman in every Googler, but fundamentally David Lightman's MO is hacking, especially when it comes to AI meets hacking (e.g., malicious intelligent agents, artificial immune systems for network intrusion detection).

  • What all three panelists totally missed was the role of hacking by intelligence agencies and organized crime circa 2008. This is the most significant change from the days of the lone hacker. Also, the original screenplay was MUCH BETTER than the movie. Hackers would appreciate the original screenplay; much more hacking, most of it real.

  • Some other points. What got me into hacking was something that appeared on "60 Minutes," believe it or not. And the movie that inspired me was NOT any of those mentioned during the panel. Finally, the book that served as my true inspiration for all things hacking wasn't even mentioned. I'll be discussing all of this during my DEFCON fireside chat.

  • Interesting, he jokes about how little 12 million is - now it would pay for the catering - I wonder if it crossed his mind that it would save thousands of lives in third world countries! Yeah, Google, very funny.

  • I wonder what the folks at Google think about the "sequel"?

  • lol, I love that dude laughing his ass off after he makes some joke in the first minute. The only dude laughing, lolz

  • what's so great about that movie.

  • its ok

  • this movie was just on yesterday. didn't get all the way thru it. Seemed corny.I dunno though i didn't give it a chance. what is it's signifigance with google?

  • no significance with google, its just a movie that techies of their generation saw and might have been influenced by. I have seen it twice. I find it quite cool actually.
