hearing this old stuff, you can really see how more modern guitarists like Frusciante pay homage to Hazel, whom they often mention reverently as a major influence in interviews. Too bad Hazel didn't live long enough to turn out lots more like this. His time on earth was too brief.
@elephanta2 Truly........ Heart wrenching, painful, furious beauty. Maggot Brain "A Stae of Mind" G. C., I say Maggot Brain "A State of Emotion." A.B.
... took a melody, swung from it for a while. Swung so high, the bass looked so far away... echoin' thru this cosmos.. what? did a flip off the highest note, twisted summer assaults on winter vibrations of trickled snowflakes... found my key.. melted in the sand.. now .. that's cold.
...... Tell Bubba he got on mo' again to send Cookie out here with no milk.
Although the most played song on my channel is Deep Purple "Speed King, the most valued song is this. This live version of "Maggot Brain" takes all the people 800 miles high, hehe.
I can remember my daddy and my uncle "high" as a kite in the basement jamming to this and many others...1970s Scorpions as well...cant get this type of music now days!
@robwheelut this is better than any pink floyd song... lol dont get me wrong i love pink floyd to death. this song... its just... beyond anything really
I'm gonna continue to say this in many ways - I thought Napster was the end of getting to hear the stuff from 'off the beaten track ' but I thank God that the bigwigs are now finally coming into their senses and letting YT purvey all that is fine (and lately, in excess of 10 minute durations) :)
Ok, my 18 year old daughter just turned me onto to this song, where and hell have I ve been the past 45 years! Absolutely mind blowing stuff, I can't stop hitting the replay button!
Thanks for listening (and watching), you and your nice daughter! Everybody says this live version is amazing...well, the studio version is also nice, but this take is more approached to band sound, very lively.
A few days before this show,Tiki Fulwood quit. That's when Tyrone Lampkin was drafted in.You can hear by his playing that he never had time to learn the drum parts,&had to basically improvise&feel his way thru each of the joints@ the show. This Cat'was dropped in @the deep end!& to top it off,Billy"Bass"Nelson was proper vexed @havin' to "break"in&try to sync up with a new drummer on concert night...
The best piece of music, ever! The way Eddie makes his guitar speak and feel emotion is pure genius. Talk about being a virtuoso...This man was way underrated. I will never tire of this piece of brilliance!
It's amazing how many people don't realize where good music comes from. All they way from Spreadheads to Ice Cube fans all could use a little Funkintelecky, and learn who wrote the music to some of their favorite songs. Swing DOWN sweet chaoit and LET me ride!
I didn't think the album version could be topped....boy was I wrong. Absolutely amazing! Thank you for posting this. This song should be the one with 2 million views (not to say the album version isn't great because it is), but only 818 views! Blasphemy!

Eddie's guitar solo on studio recording is fantastic but the whole ensemble of live recording is much stronger than that.
