@Darondify I'm pretty sure the doom is just a unique zoanthrope. there isn't a technical model for the creature so just use a zoanthrope in its place.
Oh and pyrovores are meh, but are garbage in comparison to the DoM, Ymgarls, Zoanthropes and Hive Guard. Throw pyrovores in pods and drop them down to burn up stuff in cover and they are decent, but the other choices shadow their quality.
Wow, Tyranid Elite choices are way better than you describe in this video.
Ymgarls can go in squads of up to 10 and the spot they deploy in is chosen before the game begins but after models have been deployed and The DoM and his pod are 130 (pod is 40, not 45).
i'm wandering if my tactic is good? brood of 3 carnifexs with scything talons and twin linked devourers with 1-3 venomthropes behind it for cover save and finally a a full squad of homargaunts with adrenaline glades or 20 genestealers with scything talons or other nids is it good?
Thanks for the Elites vid! This has been the most challenging area in my lists. I thought Hiveguard were one of those "look good on paper" kind of units, but now I want to try some. I'm a sucker for Lictors, though I see why they are strategically unreliable (lost and won games for me). Zoanthropes are pretty straight-forward, agony for mech armies. I usually run swarm lists, so Venomthropes are CRUCIAL when it comes to granting cover to tons of troops, maybe not so much in other lists though.
@RiseAgainstRcoks Everyone knows that the Tau are like walking Seafood .......... The Imperial Guard is where its at ... Armed with A flashlight and balls of steel
If you can spare 2 Elite slots, I'd recommend fielding 2 squads of 2, with a Prime attached to 1 squad. I personally find that 2 Hive Guard should be able to take care of a light vehicle without problem. The 3rd usually is wasted.
The Prime tags along with 1 squad to have T6 things to move S10 wounds to, provides Synapse, and carries a Lashwhip+Bonesword to deter potential melee threats.
@Yoshi6400 Hive Guards are T6, so why move S10 hits to the Prime? Except for ablative wounds, I see no reason for a Prime there. Take a Tervigon and have a 18" synapse.
Other way around. Move S10 from Prime to Guard. The Guard keep the Prime alive. Also, this "Sniper Team" will ideally be far out of the way and out of Synapse from the main force. It forces the enemy to make the hard choice to either split off and engage the team in cover lobbing S8 shots around, or go at the main force.
Also, a Tervigon should be using Catalyst on things to make them live longer. It shouldn't be wasting it's Psychic Power on Dominion.
@Yoshi6400 Sounds good, gotta try that. But adding a Prime for 80pts sounds expensive for that.
About the Tervigon powers: You are right, they exclude each other... I actually never used Dominion because I honestly just forgot the Tervigon has it for free. But if I do the math and don't take a Prime and no Catalyst and instead use Dominion (or even a second Tervigon), that cheaper variant might be useful. 95pts buy a lot of troops: ~7 Genestealers, or 19 Termagants, or ~16 Hormagaunts.
I, sadly, can't try that Tervi option. With my playstyle, I prefer the Snipers 24+ inches away on their own so that the enemy will have to string themselves out far if they decide to engage the harassment.
Once I lured a full squad of GK Paladins off to chase the snipers. They didn't like losing one guy to a S8 wound. Then I detached the Prime and charged the Paladins, buying time for the Guard to move back and live another turn. That distraction led to victory.
i love doom, he has killed so much. In one game he liked two daemon princes, two units of chaos chosen, and some plague marines....they didn't know what hit them.
Im building a genestealer army now and its so fun to play, yumgarl genestealers are quite good. ive killed death company dreadnoughts with them. I am still in question about what heavy support to use, trigons or mawlocks. 'fexes are useless.
@MrBuzzdady Nah, only regular (troop) genestealers have the option to upgrade one to a broodlord, but I have played a scenario game where the rules were merged a bit.
@andyrevell True, we're both being anecdotal. I've terrorised my buddies so many times with nids that they all come packing the anti-big-guy cannons. That may not be the case round your neck of the woods :P.
@Musabre Yep, its mostly because people see me drop 3 on the table and go "AH! FUCK! 3 CARNIFEXES!!" and concentrate on killing them while the rest of my army just takes a leisurely stroll around the battlefield nomming everything
@FUBAR329 In the current rules, just morale tests. Pinning being a morale test. Leadership test is a nice alternate term that means you have to test no matter if you're fearless or not.
Not sure if you guys have done it, but an IG Tactica would be awesome. But how you could make it interesting try and do an army not just based off of armor, but and infantry only or heavy arty based lists
I always thought Ymgarl had a Silent "m"

@Yoshi6400
Damn reply text limits... I realized that I didn't mention the full reason for having 2 squads of 2 Hive Guard.
6 S8 shots (3 Guard) at BS4 usually overkills Rhino-equivalent vehicles, unless the dice gods decide otherwise... which I already mentioned.
4 shots (2 Guard) is the sweet spot. So, I take 2 squads of 2 and go pop 2 vehicles. A lot of troops will have to walk after Turn 1.

Why would Spirit leech still effect fearless models? Because fearless means they pass all moral/leadership tests and pinning tests (i believe)...
