you were the best MR. WILKINS. and i will forever thank you for being a part of my childhood living in the bay area. you've made those saturday nights and after school hours so memorable that to this very day i wish you are still on the air.
thanks for the response, Jalan04. My interview attempt actually was back when he worked for KTVU, so he shouldn't have been afflicted back then. I wasn't very specific on my comment. My bad.
Thank you Bob for all the amazing memories, thrills & chills, and making every Saturday night in the Sacramento area an evening of anticipation for me as a child of age10-14 ('75-'79). You were the coolest, hippest dude on television, and a true idol and hero to me. You were one of the last of the true horror host legends, and so much more. You will be greatly missed, and your memory always cherished. Thank you for being a part of my life. rest in peace
I watched Creature Feature from Wyoming when I was a kid. The show was simulcast every Sat. night via a TV station in Salt Lake CIty. I'll never forget the first airing of NIght of the Living Dead.
So there are thousands of fans in Utah and Wyoming.
I met Bob Wilkins when I was 8 years old and a paperboy with the S.F. Examiner. He spent about 15 minutes talking to me and I was completely awestruck. He gave me a couple of cool movie photos and an autograph inscribed to me as a 'real ghoul'. 40 years later, and I still think Bob Wilkins was the kindest and coolest person I have ever met. And it always reminds me to consider how I treat any little kid I might meet. RIP and thanks Bob. You were one of a kind and S.F. was lucky to have you!
A Wonderful tribute to Bob Wilkins. I watched him on KTXL TV40 on Saturday nights back in the 1970's. At 0:17, that is Macy's in the background in Stockton. My hometown. Rest in Peace, Bob.
I just learned of Mr. Wilkins' passing on youtube now......I spoke to him by phone many many years ago attempting a school interview with him. He was cordial but did not wish to meet.....guess too many crazy fans.
Very sad to hear Bob Wilkins passed I would watch him when I was 4 and 5 years old in Concord back in in '74 and '75waiting for my dad to get home from work late Sat. night
I miss our Tri-State Area host as well..."The Creep" aka Lou Steele
who passeds away in 2001.
He hosted WNEW 5 NY's "Creature Features" on Saturday night in the early 70's.
I only ever saw Mr. Wilkins on video
here at Youtube, but ANY horror host is deserving of great praise for the many long nights of our youth, when they made us laugh and gave us great movies to be scared to.
No matter how the world turned every day, they were alwys there for us, for better or worse. God bless!
He is why I LOVE horror. CLASSIC FANTASTIC HORROR. I never got to meet him but lived in the bay area my whole life. Shame on me. I will miss him greatly. Thank you Bob for sharing your love. You will remain a very special part of a boy now 40, but I remember. I will always remember.
I'm not entirely sure but I think that I am IN this video !At 50 seconds into the video. I was a brief guest on his show in Oakland promoting a Star Trek group which was taping ST episodes off the air in order before there were any pre-recorded tapes.
I am shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. I watched him every Saturday night when I was a kid in San Jose. He also covered the weather on the news at KTVU for a while.
Thanks Bob, What a great show and a great host! I wish it was still on, I watched every Saturday. I was just telling my wife about the show and found this on youtube, so sorry he is gone.
Wow, I'm off in Nevada. I didn't hear about his passing. I was born in San Francisco and grew up watching him on tv. Creature Features was the best. I was lucky enough to meet him at a star trek convention. He was an awesome nerd! Miss you Bob, rest in pieces.
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the 3/21/09 tribute in Alameda. It was such a wonderful venue. Tremendous. I nearly froze up when I saw John Stanley. The tribute was excellent. Thank You Bob Wilkins and Creature Features. You have been ingrained in my memories forever so thanks. My sister my not thank you, due to a night of the living dead thing but, that what big brothers are for.
Again, thank you for letting me pay my respects. Joe
A public memorial will be held on Saturday March 21, 2009 from 1PM to 4PM at AUCTIONS BY THE BAY THEATER, 2700 Saratoga Street, Alameda, CA 94501.
The memorial will be an open house and is free of charge to the public.
In attendance will be Bob Wilkins' family, John Stanley, Mr. Lobo and Ernie Fosselius. Video clips will be shown on the big screen highlighting Bob's television career. Items of Bob's television memorabilia will be on display, including the Captain Cosmic costume.
He passed away early this year?!? Damn-well, he is loved and had his shine under the sun. He definitely brought joy and is/was/forever the wonderful entertainer and host.
Even to this day, sometimes late on saturday nights, I find myself flipping channels looking for something good to watch and wishing that Creature Features was still on the air. RIP Mr. Wilkins, you were the best.
Bob was one of the nicest people I have ever run across. In 1998 my house was caught in a flood and it destryed alot of my things including some collectable from his shows. I wrote to Bob to see if I could buy anything from him and he sent me some signed pictures and a couple of small props from the creature features set. WOW! I had a chance to thank him in person at Harlows in Sacramento when they had a Creature Features special there. God Bless Bob and Thank You for all the years of FUN!
I was so lucky to have met him in 2005 at WONDERCON San Fran. Though he did not talk much I was there to hold his hand and get a pic.with him and his son Robbie.
He was like a second father to me for I could always go to him on the tv and be cheered up on Friday and Saturday nights or even the Capt.Cosmic days 4:00pm
Oh man, I'm soooo sad at this news. Bob was a staple of my childhood growing up in Sacramento. I knew of his illness and had not checked in on any news until now. I'm so heartbroken. My condolences to his wife Sally and the rest of the Wilkins family. Thanks Bob. You made late Saturday night TV great. I'll miss you. Thanks for the memories.
Mr.Bob Wilkins will br gratelly missed a hero ,lengend who forever enrned title MR.creature features forever r.i.p MR. Bob Wilkins you will be veryn much missed.
Growing up in Vallejo, and having cable TV at the time, I got to watch Bob on both KTVU and KTXL.
One Saturday night, I think it was on his KTXL broadcast, Bob did a TV commercial parody for Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage (a new product at the time), calling it "The Wilkins Brothers Sausage". The "sausage" was in fact his trademark cigar. It had me in stitches for weeks to come.
A great entertainer, he will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Bob, and thanks for the laughs.
I am so sorry to hear that my childhood hero has passed away. I was luck enough to meet him on several occasions. He was always polite and freindly and very entertaining. He will be dearly missed by many. My thoughts go out to his family and freinds today. Wonderful tribute video!
What a perfect tribute video. Makes me think Bob and Harry are lighting up a couple of cigars right now in Heaven sharing old stories, Bob's deadpan delivery and Harry laughing uncontrollably. Thanks for all the happy childhood memories and Rest In Peace Bob.
Bob Wilkins was a true legend and one of the coolest ones at that. I am so stunned and sad to have heard of his passing. Back in my youth, he brought us so much joy with his fun filled shows from Creature Features to Captain Cosmic! Got to be on that show, too...and was the hand opening the door on Creature Features once.
God Bless you Bob Wilkins!! You get to entertain the angels now and have them watching all kinds of great movies now.
Creature Features and Captain Cosmic were my favorite programs as a child. One of the highlights of my life was receiving a Creature Feature fan club card with words of encouragement on the back from Mr. Wilkins. Thank you, Bob. RIP.
We'll miss you so much, Bob. My siblings and I grew up with you in the 70's on KTVU channel 2 Oakland. You were our saturday night hero! Saturday nights were never the same without you. My you rest in peace.
All of the tributes here have said as much if not more than I could, so I just want people to know something: Bob Wilkins had a significant cultural impact. When KTVU went cable "superstation" in 1977, "Creature Features" started beating the original "Saturday Night Live" in the ratings (though only occasionally). Bob introduced anime to the United States through Captain Cosmic. He is WOEFULLY underappreciated, and if there is something I can do about that I will.
I, my sister and cousins would watch his late night show on KTXL channel 40 in Sacramento every Saturday back in the 70's, while playing various board games like MONOPOLY or LIFE during commercials. He made TV worth watching. All great memories. Wonderful tribute Scott. Bob, you will be missed by all of us.

It's a beautiful tribute Scott. When you sent out the emails to inform all of us, I read the message and sat quietly for a moment and then tears came. I'm gonna miss Mr. Wilkins I'm glad he made an impact in my life as a kid. Showing us all a great time on Creature Features and Captain Cosmic. Thank you Bob and I will continue to keep America Strong and watch horror films. Thank You from the botom of my Heart.

Excellent tribute. Bob Wilkins was without a doubt my TV Hero. I can't watch a classic horror/sci-fi movie or Kaiju related show without thinking of how Bob shaped my love for these genres. I tell my kids about the great times of Creature Features and Captain Cosmic and wish they had something similar, but Bob was one of a kind and those days will never be duplicated. We loved you Bob, thanks for a great childhood!
Thanks Scott for a great tribute. I plan to use the same music on my Myspace page dedicated to Bob. He was and will always be a big part of my childhood and adult years. I'm just glad I was able to call him a friend. RIP Bob, we will love and Miss you. Butch.
Captain Cosmic was a big deal to me when I was little kid. Bob will always have a special place in my memories. Recently I bought my son a set of Ultraman and Johnny Sokko DVDs and we watch them together. So I guess in some ways we're keeping the tradition going. Thanks, Bob.
Thank you for the tribute. Even though I no longer live in California, I have found memories of watching Creature Features with my family and friends. I will always remember Bob, the wonderful, cigar-smoking host that would send chills and laughter through me.
Thank you for all the great memories, Bob Wilkins! You brought joy to many Bay Area science fiction and horror-fans, including this one.
