it's an interesting percussion element. if you focus on it it could get annoying, but if you focus on normal percussions like hi hats they can get annoying too.

I cannot understand how people can think the turbografx versions of the soundtrack is the best.. they are too much just listen to the "drip-drop" thing in this tune. The master system versions are the best.
For just casually listening, I can't stand the dripping, because it takes away from the piece for me. Though, during gameplay, it just adds so much atmosphere to it. I suppose it's a double-edged sword? ^^;

Eh? this is the original? I enjoyed a well orchestrated Midi played through my Yamaha Synth far more then I did this one.. The drip drop is too out of place and the finer parts of the song are too soft in the background.
I agree with Oldirtydawson. We need a band as the Black Mages did for FF to rock these songs out in concert.
I was a big gamer when I was growing and up and now almost 16 years later I still remember Y's book I and II. An epic legend, if there was ever a rival soundtrack the only thing that would come to mind is Chrono trigger. Thanks for sharing the memories.
@Diremagic Actually, the music on the Turbo Duo Ys was redbook audio (like many Turbo Duo games), so it was CD quality. They could have made it a live orchestra if they felt like it, but yeah, Ys I & II has a pretty stellar soundtrack and you couldn't beat the game essentially being the soundtrack (also part of why I love Thunder Force V on Saturn, Darius Gaiden, Guardian Heroes, and Ridge Racer Revolution so much).
The game disc itself. The complete Turbo Grafx Ys soundtracks were never released on CD to my knowledge, though Hudson did officially release some music on compilation CDs.
Undoubtedly one of the best video game compositions ever. Perfect track from a classic game. I really wish Hudson would release this for the Wii, I've been waiting for months. Thanks for posting this!
Actually yuzo the original composer on the pc-88 series. the spinoffs were done by someone else, probably help by yuzo. This music right here your listening now, is without shadow of a doubt one of the best rpgs/mmorpgs music I ever heard. The composition in this music speechlees.
That piano roll at 1:30 is freaking amazing.

Can't wait for Chronicles (especially if they have the PCE/TG-16 audio variants, now THAT will be a way to relive Ys I & II,)

This is one hell of a beautiful song. It really makes me relax not to mention have fun with the game on the Wii.

I think the Ys Eternal version is much better, the Synth hits much harder in that version.

hah, noob comment when you haven't heard the version I speak of. Of course the song is great, but 'this version' is not as great as what I've heard.

The drip is entirely necessary, haven't you played the game? It's in the temple, being abandoned as it is.
And there are remade versions, listen to the Ys I & II Chronicles music.

@Ryuukazi
True. I liked the Chronicles version, albeit it sounding a bit... sad. Although I didn't hear the water in that version.
For the dripping effect, I feel as if it adds a note of extra sadness and regret (more to the point that they could be symbolized as tears dropping).

Of all the games on my Wii Virtual Console, it's in the top 5. If I could go to a concert of all the Ys music, that would be so awesome.

The Turbografx 16 had a sound chip that way ahead of any console at the time makes for some really clear awesome music
This is is my favorite track from Ys 1 but too bad i can't find anything as good arrangewise as S.S.H's remix of Valestine Castle.
Anybody know any?

This reminds me of "Wanderers of Sorceria" for Warcraft III. RazorclawX took a lot of Ys themes for that.
