  • Ian messed it up with "taker", but still did a great job

  • EPIC!

    R.J. Dio rip

  • LOVE SABBATH! DIO I'LL SEE YOU SOON!

  • GILLAN IS THE BEST HEAVY METAL SINGER ON EARTH. THIS IS MIND BLOWING PERFORMANCE.

  • Ian Gillan, you suck...sorry man.

  • @thepurplecrystalz go listen restart

  • awesome line up butter nothing without DIO \m/

  • i love ian in deep purple, but i think he isnt cool when he is in black sabbath.

  • dio is bether

  • Ian Gillian is great, in his own right. He was amazing with Deep Purple and he inspired another amazing vocalist by the name of Eric Adams from Manowar.

Of course Dio is untouchable, but this isn't Dio, it's Gillian doing it his way. Nothing wrong with that.

  • @tjrtherocksponge

A lot of people like those albums. Good music, whether or not you think it's "Sabbath" or not.

  • @DAGDAsRevenge LOL @ calling Ian Gillan "a bad imitation of Rob Halford".

  • Interesting rendition, with Ian adding those face melting high pitch screams.

  • i love this version :)

  • love born again lp all sabbath gd from ozzy to all who sing in them ;)))

  • @burzum66677,

Born Again is an 80's metal classic!

    Screw the critics.

  • @DAGDAsRevenge,

My favorite era of Dio was his time in Rainbow, 1976 -1979.

Wish he could have played with Ritchie Blackmore in Rainbow once again, like he did in Heaven and Hell with Tony Iommi... his death was a true loss for metal music, felt deeply by lifelong fans the world over.

  • @DAGDAsRevenge,

"The other guy" was IAN GILLAN, the legendary singer for Deep Purple.

"Bad imitation of Rob Halford" my ass!

The pictures in the video are of Ian, not Ronnie James Dio...

Still, this is Ronnie's song. It honors him.

So was I by posting the video. And by leaving a comment here on the day we lost him.

  • @DAGDAsRevenge Its ronnie james Dio the greatest metal singer ever !!!!! screw u u dont know real music

  • This is fucking ear rape. So glad Gillan was barely with Sabbath.

  • oh hell no wat the fuck is this crap

  • best part is from 6:05 - 6:38

    and the screams of course

  • what a idiotik voice..i want to listen DIO.

  • @duckdodgerss,

What an idiotik comment... did you read "1983" or "Born Again Tour Audio"?

Dio was in Black Sabbath 1979 -1982.

  • @clayopalstar i didnt know when dio left..but he is awfull/

  • @clayopalstar There is nothing idiotic. I don't care if its Ian who is singing but the magic is gone without DIO. I read the description but still I want to listen to DIO so your reply is a bit out of place. Don't be a hater!

  • @sybnios,

Guess you haven't seen my videos of Ronnie James Dio with Rainbow, Catch the Rainbow and Stargazer...

And I only used the term "idiotik" to address another rude hater in their own words.

So your reply is a bit out of place...

Do you see the pattern I use for the real "haters"?

  • @duckdodgerss so why the fuck are you commenting a black sabbath song then? idiot!

  • @duckdodgerss a song is best sang y the first personto sing it which is why i hate listenin to dio sing songgs likw sweet leaf and war pigs.

  • Quit screaming Jesus we hear you.

  • @straight2helll,

He's screaming so Jesus will hear HIM...

  • Ian Gillian was so much better as the singer of Black Sabbath. Dio sucked. I hate it that he died, and I hate it when anyone dies. He just didnt know when to stfu and get over his voice and let the band jam out. Ian was perfect for Black Sabbath! Dio made the band seem so rediculous. Ian was why it was soo cool to see Rob Halford sub for ozzy. Heavy Metal goes with Heavy Metal. Dio was a wanna be. He sang good, but never had a song fit for his vocals.

  • @celticwitan you are seriously the biggest dumbass when it comes to Rock. Dio was a master and if you didn't know Born Again to this day still is consider by most to be Sabbath worst album and Gillan was not fit for this band, It could have been a career killer if he stayed. And for anyone who opposes me know know that it was Ian Gillan himself that said he "was the worst singer in all of Sabbath history". And a wanna be....you are a fucking moron

  • @dshelleby,

Live, I'd have to say Glenn Hughes was 'Sabbath's worst singer.

Ian just didn't give a damn about the older material.

Say what you will, Born Again is a great Black Sabbath album. One of my favorites next to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath...

  • @dshelleby And lets not forget that gillan's voice was not healthy when they started touring, if he took some time to rest he could do a lot better than this.

  • I thought this came out in 80'?

  • it's still iommi

  • i love live tracks wish i could buy this any one know if its an import

  • @blahblahblahsome It's a bootleg, you can download it. It has three different titles: Live in Manchester, The Gillan Tapes and Born in Hell. Good luck.

  • so he messed up but still the crowd loved it he sounds great

  • BLACK SABBATH---"HEAVEN AND HELL"

  • Gillan is a great talent; I just think that he and Sabbath weren't made for each other.

  • At 1:46 - "Dreaming of the Moon" - classic stuff!

  • dio canta essa musica muito melhor

  • this voice gives me the chillssslslslslslsls

Especially at " it's heaven and heeeeeelll" , holy christ

  • This is a very sad day for me........................I never heard this without Ronnie James singing it, and wish I never did!

  • If he knew the lyrics, I think I could really enjoy this.

  • I honestly think this is a pretty good version. i mean, of course no version tops the original, but this is a pretty good performance, especially on Gillan's part. I think it's the extra keyboards that ruin it if anything.

  • Gillian has no business singing this song, he's good, but it just don't sound right.

  • What a joke...Ian couldn't even get the words right! Maker/Taker...whoops!!

  • 1:02

  • tou gamise ta matia tou tragoudiou o gillan

  • Holy crap...Ian Gillan really fucks up this song. definitely should've stayed with deep Purple or some church choir somewhere.

  • ok, I am not a fan of others singing Dio tunes......but 1:02, God Damn!!!!

  • Gilan sempre foi foda!

  • @SOUBRUXOSIM

    Sorry...but it's hard to fill one's shoes...being RJD.

Ian does his own Gillan style!! It's Heaven and Hell!!!! Fool!! Fool!!!...

  • Ian is one drunk bastard. Great singer, Awesome drinker! He didn't even try to learn the songs. Stupid in one respect, entertaining as far as being a fellow drunk!

  • Ian is great, but he did state he didn't get the meaning of the music.

  • gillan zero

  • Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!!

He screms like no other on earth! He really screams like no other on earth!

  • Really love Ian as a singer of Purple-Songs, but the best Sabbath-Singer was Ronnie!

No one beats Ian on Strange kind of woman - life in japan. And no one beats Ronnie on Heaen and hell.

  • Gillan's screaming is terrific! Especially when he is screaming "Heaven and hell---!!".

Gillan has a completely different vocal style from Ronnie.

I like Ian's version of this song too!

  • I like Ian in Purple but the way he butchers heaven and hell is an abomination. Really " The Devil is never a Taker", r u kidding me, that completely changes the meaning.

  • @dramalfian1 All views are welcome, even those I don't agree with. You may not like Ian's versions of old 'Sabbath songs, but his work on "Born Again" in 1983 was incredible. It was just a warm-up for the 1984 Deep Purple for him..

  • @dramalfian1

Yes, Gillan is awesome in Purple, but only great here.

  • @dramalfian1 "The devil's never a maker"thats in the song but in here he did a mistake

  • @dramalfian1 U R Right ! Fully Agree !!!

  • @dramalfian1 true its terrible however i did like trashed

  • @dramalfian1 even though I personally prefer Gillan as a singer, I agree that his work with sabbath wasn't as good as expected... but in an interview he said that he had no time to learn the lyrics, so they put a small sheet with the lyrics onstage so he could read but he couldn't because of the smoke machines used onstage :P

  • @dramalfian1 Those aren't his goddamn songs. Jesus, give the guy a break.

  • @dramalfian1 Dude, if you had to memorize all those lyrics in just a couple of weeks, you'd be fucked.

  • The best singer Sabbath ever had was Ian Gillan the best front man they ever had was Ozzy Osbourne the best Friend Sabbath fans ever had was Ronnie James Dio God Bless, And RIP. MR.DIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RIP Mr. Dio I will see you again someday in either Heaven or Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheAjr1987 he is. sad but true.

    RIP

  • Lol I like how Gillan changes the lyrics, funny.

    RIP Dio!!

  • @TheAjr1987 our legond just passed away.

  • Goodbye Ronnie J. Dio. I have listened to your music since 1981.

  • @TheAjr1987.

Ronnie James Dio, legendary singer for Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven and Hell passed away today. He was loved dearly by myself and countless fans the world over. Hard Rock/Metal has lost one of it's greatest... we will miss you Ronnie, and will never forget you. You had class!

  • TMZ reports at 1:35pm today: His wife Wendy, said on his website, "Today my heart is broken ... Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

  • RIP Ronnie James Dio - you'll be remembered \m/

  • @jeffrey42088

    >implying dio can die

  • Ah the great Gillan era... :)

  • OMG Ozzy is the LEGEN THAT ALL THE WOLD KNOWS ^m^

  • ozzy is better dumb ass

  • KOOL \M/ \M/

  • I very like Gillan but in this song his voice is horrible, Dio has much better voice in song Heaven and Hell \m/\m/

  • horrible?

this version is better then dio's

    Gillan is a master

  • I love the way Ian Gillan sings with Black Sabbath!!I love "Born Again"and i love the live versions he does of the old songs!!He brought his own style to it and it rocked like a son of a bitch!!I wish he would have done another album with them!I like him better in Sabbath than Purple!

  • my music teacher told me to sing this for a peformance and this is the first time i have heard it :S

  • naa this is Gillan hes almost a baritone, the original singer and who made this song is Ronnie james Dio a high tenor. Thats why gillans voice is quite strained in this range.Gillan is a great singer but when he sings in his range, look up for "Gillan In concerto for group and orchestra 1969" youtube:

watch?v=JnEhFMEG2W0&feature=related Thats gillans voice. If youre teacher told u to sing a dio's song probably you have a high voice.Check 2 cartoon videos in my favourites, the singer there is Dio.

  • Gillan a baritone?

where the hell you based your self to say this bullshit?

    Shit!!!

    The both are tenor.

Gillan sings higher than dio, what the fuck are you saying please, he use's head voice and falsetto....

Listen to this and you'll learn the best of Gillan

    watch?v=1OKg-8BwSFc

  • @felipetordek mmm first af all I didnt say he was a baritone, 2nd do u know what differences a tenor than a baritone?tessitura, colour, brightness and passagio??. A baritone can sing as high as a tenor u know, like Chris Cornell, but any baritone could sing as good as a tenor in a high range and any tenor could sound as good in the middle and low register..

look up "smoke on the water - deep purple and Dio"compare Dio and Gillan, gillan is on his highest notes, dio is just having fun in those notes

  • In this song with dio, Gillan is on his highest notes??

oh, you don't know Ian, sorry...

Anyway, Gillan is not closer of his high notes, and still higher than Dio...

  • haha dude,I am a Gillan fan,his register goes through F#2 to C6 but come on!he CANT sing that high.Just see how he sings this song and realize WHY after this tour he went to surgery!!. Besides Dio can Scream!!

    Heaven and Hell-Mob Rules watch?v=Rajfsx0sUnU

Other thing Gillan, and probably most of singers couldnt sing this songs properly

Roger Glover - love is all

    Rainbow - Sensitive to light

Dio is one of the highest... Also Eric Martin, Mike Matijevic, the guy of Europe too, gillan doesnt...

  • @mnunezper You're so wrong when you say DIo sings higher than Gillan... Shit man... I Love both vocals,, but Dio isn't that good in high notes you should send to me DIo - Gypsy, that's a High Dio.. GIllan's Range is a 4 octave... and you say he can't sing higher? ok, DIo of course can... Dio's low notes is better than Gillan!!! contrary to what you're saying... Ok, nowadays dio is better, Gillan lose a lot his voice.. But 70-90 gillan's voice is better than DIo... Range, power, etc..
  • @felipetordek haha dude scream is not singing, gillan can scream and do falsetto or some mix beetween head and falsetto or chest screaming, but he cant sing high. Is like that song "love is all", the tesitura is way high than gillans songs, realize that gillan sings almost in the middle and then do the high screams but he doesnt sing around the high C or C5. Is like this song "heaven and hell" gillan CANT sing it properly... also "she's gone - steelheart" gillan would never sing that high...

  • @mnunezper have you ever heard to Episode six?

but it isn't the question, Gillan isn't the higher singer, ok, i know

    but he's the best :)

but this is a super high voice ?v=TmDjtm4FFcY

    :D

    bye!

  • haha yeah dude I have listen episode six, I told u, I am a Gillan fan. But in that songs the top note is around F4, Dio's top note is around C5 ... (without screams)

That angra song, that vocal technique is pretty easy, is kind of mix voice and is not that hard. Bring notes as Dio, in the high register, thats hard, nobody sings like Dio or Mercury ... Besides Angra, Rhapsody and plenty of power metal bands, all of them sings with a similar technique and all of them go that high ...

  • @mnunezper winge much???? fukn hell

  • @mnunezper ok, it's easy...

please send me a vid of you singing... :)

  • @felipetordek haha im baritone and Im learning to sing, I dont try to sing high cause Im still learning other stuff. But my teacher can sing with different techniques and he can do those things, seeing a professional rock singer doing that screams, high notes and singing in those styles, you can realize how to do them and also which f them is harder to do. I tell you, Dios technique is hard. A technique that is easy is the technique of Axel Rose, Sting, Ozzy perhaps

  • Comment removed

  • @mnunezper OK :)

    watch?v=j22DhrMTX04

Finally found this vid, the butterfly ball with gillan(DVD)

DIo missed and Gillan entered :D

this was the first performance of Gillan before almost 2 years when she quits DP

    Nice Performance ;)

  • Hey clayopalstar, could you please send me this bootleg?

This is the best quality bootleg from the Ian Gillan era, I really wanna hear the whole thing!

  • This is so awesome. Thanks for uplaoding it!

    And GOD BLESS BOOTLEGS!!!!!

  • i dont ven know who they are lol i just want the song do be good

  • Have you more songs with this concert?

  • Gillan an Dio rule

    Ozzy is burning

  • In this song, DIo is better, cauz this song is for Dio

anyway i thing Ian can sing Dio's song, but Dio can't sing Ian Gillan's Songs...

Dio Can't scream like Ian, not even close.

  • Yes, Dio is the BEST!!!!!!

  • Ian gillan sounds like angry lion, specially when he screams...he is the master of screams.....

  • dio is the master of metal!!

    but ozzy had more success!!

because of the songs..not because of his voice!!!

  • Amazing!!!

Ozzy is good, but for me Ian Gillan is a god....

Ian Gillan and Robert Plant, the fathers of metal vocal..

  • metal???

  • No, samba.

  • ok whatever u say...

  • ozzy or Ian are nothing in compare with Dio, Dio is the better, Dio is the law

  • Black Sabbath is awesome and well black sabbath FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey these fuckin pics are fuckin amazing !!!!

  • fuckin luv you Ian G

  • WTF, look this cat can sing but dio put his stamp on these songs. this is like having tom jones sing born to be wild

  • All my respect to Iam, but DIO is the law

  • Well, I was there, fantasticwith the "stonhenge" stage set

  • ian gillan in sabbath is godd!!!!

  • yeah! yeah!! yeah!!!!!!!!!!

    5 stars

  • Ozzy is a better singer? What do you base that on? You're fucking retarded.

  • Ian has always been a great voice but is not suitable one for this song in my opinion. Besides apart from the screams, here his voice doesn't sound well. DIO is THE VOICE AND THE SOUL OF THIS EPIC SONG!!!

  • Fantastic photos! Well done, thanks for posting!

  • wow it' not just the song that's killer.... great set of pics as well!!! thanks for posting!!

  • This is probably going to get loads of bad replies from Dio fans but I really prefer this version to Dio's. This is just my opinion, of course I love both though. But in my opinion Dio was never as good as Ian who was never as good as Ozzy. They are all fucking amazing to be honest though.

  • so true man!

  • Man this rules! Most of the stuff I've heard Ian sing from the Dio era is absolutely horrible, but this is great! The screams really add to the weight of the song. I know alot of Sabbath fans hate the Born Again lp but I've always loved it. I've always thought that this lp, Masters of Reality and Dehumanizer was their heaviest material. I was dissapointed when Ian left because I thought he had alot to offer the band but I did get to see Purple in 85 and that was awesome as well.

  • Born Again is one of my favorite Sabbath albums hands down. I remember when I first got the cassette as the CD was hard to find in the summer of 1994 and my best friend and I said his dad was right that Born Again was a once in a lifetime kick ass union of Ian Gillan and Sabbath. Then this show from Worcester (in my native Mass) in November, 1983 was recorded when I was 7. If I had been older in 1983, I would have seen this tour in a blink of an eye.

  • Back in the the early and middle 80's I would play the beggining of Disturbing the Priest for Halloween, moving my Dad's speakers outside to scare the shit out of the trick or treaters!

  • Believe it or not, Born Again is the one effort/release that Sabbath "would rather forget"-or (at least) "distance themselves from." Like yourself, I, TOO, LOVE Born Again, as well as their self-tited debut release (of course!), and the Mob Rules. Speaking of Sabbath, what's your opinion of the Dio-era Sabbath "new name" Heaven and Hell-and their debut release?

  • when he he sings "it's heaven and hell" sounds fucking killer

  • love this song

  • GEEZER BUTLERRRRRRRRRRR

  • Gillan does a damn find job doing this song. Probably his best vocal performance out of all the Ozzy/Dio-Era tracks he did vocals on during the tour.

  • Dio the warlock is amazing and owns this song. Gillan is amazing and totally did awesome on this cover though i do have to admit i like dio's version better

  • This brings tears to my eyes

  • DEEP SABBATH !

    or

    BLACK PURPLE !

amazing version. Gillan can sing really, really amazing !

  • best heaven in hell version

  • Gillan sings like he has six testicles.

  • @SnakeRambo yeh ,and all off them being squeezed at the same time lol.

  • I think Ian Gillan is a fabulous singer. One of the greatest of all times. However, it was (!) even more controlled and smoother in the early seventies. Here I think he is great during some stages and the screaming fantastic. But the opening is somewhat lacking the gear he had about ten yrs before. Like many other singers who deteriorates by age. But all of them Dio, Ozzy and Gillan are just great performers. And of a classic era. I salute them all and this song. Great pictures as well

  • Comment removed

  • A discussion about the quality of Gillan's work here is totally irrelevant. Obviously he cannot sing like Dio, but it's very interesting to hear a legend like Gillan singing this classic song. Sabbath's Born Again is a masterpiece, and we all should be always grateful for being possible to hear this album!

  • Ok Gillan just raped the music dead.

its disturbing. he should definately have stayed with that other band.

  • I really love what Ian has done to the song

  • Should have stayed with Purple mate

  • Gillan with Sabbath... show to the world, that he is de Heavy metal voice!

  • this is dio's song he tried but this is dio's song

  • good try tho.

  • yes... i can't imagine to Dio singing Disturbing the priest... less to Ozzy

  • Gillan could not sing high notes like Dio and Martin and almost any other singer in Sabbath. He has said he was the worst singer in Sabbath and that was true if you listen those songs from Ozzy and Dio era. His voice is not just high, of course he can scream but pure singing is something else.Although he is legend and he has done great job with Purple.

  • Do you know HOW MANY times, mostly in reference to Deep Purple, his name is printed as G I L L I A N? I've got an imported vinyl release of "Knocking at Your Back Door"/A-side and "Gypsy's Kiss"/B-side that spells it that way.

  • Hey Buddy. It's GILLAN, not Gillian.

    I love this Gillan version.

Hear the scream at the chorus... Amazing..!

  • Smoke On the water is much easier song to sing than this one.

  • i guess dio is better for the verse....because he has a greater emotianal attachment to the lines...and ian had some serious throat problems back then...

but come on, he can't beat it when Gillan screams HEEEAAAAVEN AND HEEEEELLLLL!!!

  • simply the best screamer ever!!!

  • Man, Ozzy will always be the starter of the heavy metal movement.. Dio did start out doin 50's dooshizzle afterall.. doing it well mind you.. But I'm a huge fan of Dio, Rainbow, Elf, and all of Dio's work.. I'd have to say, vocally, its totally Ian, Ozzy, Dio, then Jesus..with satan at a pitiful, measly, dead last.

  • But... Ian was the original Jesus (superstar, that is)

  • haha, defenitely!

  • Ian- what great singer, whooh just breathtaking, and hard to hold breath for 9:00 minutes. Greeting from Moscow!

  • it goes on, and on, and on........

  • never............the battle goes on

  • we'll ever see anyone make music like this again?

  • Yes, Heaven & Hell the BAND, comprised of Iommi, Butler, Dio and Appiche. It comes out on 4-24-09!

  • Appice.

  • Comment removed

  • No, the drummer who played the Born Again tour was Bev Bevan (former ELO)

  • i prefer dio for this song

  • This song was made with DIO not Ozzy.
