I have an analogue cassette tape of one of Jane's Addictions 'farewell' shows at Lollapalooza '91, with an awesome full set and very good quality. I still listen to it occasionally today. There's a cool bit which shows how disunified and basically sick of each other they were back then - on stage, Eric asks Perry what song is next on the set list about three songs in, Perry says "Ain't No Right" and then mocks Eric's reply; "Beautiful!" The rancor was only fierce, but the music great.
this takes me back. i flew to dallas for the lolla show there in 91--my sophomore year in college... fried my ass off & had the time of my life. some of the people i was there with aren't alive anymore unfortunately, so this really brings back memories. it was hands down the greatest show (& lineup) i've ever seen. it was hilarious afterwards to see everyone in a daze looking for their cars LOL!
OHH!!! I've been looking for footage from this show for years..I followed JA on their last six Lolla gigs..I'd die happy if you could dig up the encore of Chip Away..I fought thru a slew of security to stage dive right at the end of the show..Thanks for posting this..please dig up more, out of all the 32 JA gigs I was lucky enough to see, this was one the best!!
I saw Janes at the Harriet Island Lolla. in St. Paul....savage, primal but extremely tight and polished. Ate a hit of acid, and Perry's echod vocal on "Then She Did.." is still ringing in my head, decades later.
I was so disappointed with JA at Lalapalooza 91. The fact that they were having internal issues and were about to break up really came out in their lackluster performances that year. Sadly, they've never been able to regain the awesome live presence they had when I saw them in 88 and 89.
I've seen Jane's a few times, starting with Lolla '91 in Chicago. They were brilliant. However, I had a friend that saw them on the Nothing's Shocking tour at the Metro in Chicago and he said it was the best show he ever saw in his entire live.
I miss the old classic Jane's!
