thats not lag. not even close. even if it's worse in person it's still not that bad. you should see the lag on my droid 1. It takes literally like no less then 1 minute to load my homescreen every single time i push the home button and it takes almost a minute to load every app i click on but sometimes it fore closes with every app and i have to spend another minute clicking it again.
you call THAT slowness? you should see my moment when it's plugged in to wall outlet charging, i have to press/try to drag several dozen times, get REAL lag, like when a moments plugged in charging, then complain
idk if you've gotten the 2.0.1 OS over the air update or not yet, but it's free for all droid owners and it fixes this issue, as well as many other ones. good luck with your droid, i know i love mine!
My Droid does the same thing. Nothing a simple update can't fix. And the Droid Eris doesn't do it because it runs Android 1.5, which has been out much longer and all of the bugs have been worked out. In time, updates will make it much more fluid.
My HTC Hero does not lag at all on the home screen. Out of the box it did but after the update it is running much more fluid. I can't se any lag.. mfg

fixed in 2.0.1, also you can use Home++ which is nicer than the default home app.

I hate to tell you this but this is normal for all android phones. They all lag a bit.

Sadly, the video doesn't catch it quite well, but it is very much worse in person.
My G1 has a much easier time with the home screen, but that's possibly because it's Android 1.6, not 2.0.
