  • hearing this song 7 years ago in art class was one of my first exposures to the beatles haha. Jack Johnson made me a big fan of the song :) Now I listen to the beatles more than jack...funny how that turned out.

  • Jack Johnson - The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill. He should do a cover of that!!

  • Faverite song on the white album.

  • Better than JamesBlunt version!

  • great cover, dont like the way it says "Artist" in the description though, should be "performer"

  • the Beatles sung it way better

  • Excellent version !

  • @carvey18 Joe Cocker and countless others would disagree. Just because the Beatles did a song first, doesn't mean they did it best. Trying to say otherwise is ignorant fanboyism.

Note that this in no way pertains to this song. Jack's okay, but not really up my alley.

  • This is an interesting twist on the song.. I like it :)

  • rocky doesn't surf. good cover by the way..

  • JJ didn't changed the song at all and the results were good. But James Blunt... eh, i think, he's collapsed in the corner and got unable to cover 'Rocky Racoon'.

  • I disagree carvey18 jack killed it!

  • great cover

  • this is an awesome cover

  • carvey 18 .NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!. the beatles sent that message themselves!

  • @judyknitts Scroll over his name and click reply don't just write his screen name..

  • This fucking sucks

  • Gay

  • music lives my friends, it hasnt died just yet. performances like this keep me hopefully on my toes.

  • he is not bad at all, but I cant listen to him, makes me nervous.

  • i think he did a good job covering this. this isn't the easiest tune to cover, especially since it was written by one of the most famous bands ever created.

  • i might like this if i had never heard the real song

  • this was horrible

  • he killed it

  • @saldanaracing Rocky had hardly survived when he was shot and then comes Jack Johnson and destroys him this way!

  • i agree no one can beat the beatles but i am a fan of jack johnson. it isnt a competition, he just wants to try his own version. this is original and great so dont be sayin trash!! dont u c the word cover in the title?? btw im not copying the krazykat645 i posted this then realized i was on the wrong account

  • i agree no one can beat the beatles but i am a fan of jack johnson. it isnt a competition, he just wants to try his own version. this is original and great so dont be sayin trash!!

  • I like it. And I don't accept any crappy cover of the band of my life. It sounds folk. Paul's original version sounds happy... this is different, never as good as The Beatles, but decent.

  • boring... nothing more to say

  • DON'T EVER EVER SING ANOTHER SONG BY THE BEATLES YOU SUCKS AT IT

  • really surprised hw may pople don't likethis, I think Jack did a very god job

  • I respect what Jack Johnson's done with music in general, but it really comes off as fake. Maybe I won't be saying this in thirty or forty year's time, since, I'm sure, people thought the Beatles were full of fakeness during their prime. He's very bold for having covered one of his main inspirations, and I think that's the kind of boldness people need nowadays. Enough of this Justin Bieber bullshit... I'll remember Jack Johnson in forty years. Will anyone remember Bieber?

  • Is there a non live version of this cover?

  • @jagermikester,

You got it. If Jack tried to sound like Paul it would come off like a bad kareoke.

Today too many artists try to do tasteful covers and miss the mark.

    Nice job, Jack.

  • this is the best cover of this song ive heard. cause he makes it a sad song.. everyone else is singing it fast like its a joke.

  • Ouch. I like JJ... but he came up pretty short on this one. Why not just wear a T with "I'm nowhere near as good as Paul" printed on it?

  • The respect is well deserved, though I prefer the original.

  • Wow, another atrocious cover by JJ, what a shock!!!!!!

  • pretty good i would think jack could cover rocky racoon

  • Is that John Mayer with him around 1:03?

  • @mandregan4

    noooo hahaha

  • @AvitaliLoNormali kind of looks like him though

  • Not bad... but I prefer the original version from The Beatles ;)

  • I like it, but it's just a cover. I was expected something more tropical, something more of his style, but i guess he just learned the chords and played it like the rest of us.

  • @rockisdead1946 this does sound more like jack johnson than the beatles, he's not playing the same rythm as the original, and not all jj songs sound tropical. i like it. but i respect your opinion.

  • I like this cover. but no matter how shitty some covers may be, it;s showing respect and love to the artist that originally performed it. The fact that Jack Johnson covered it, is awsome! The Beatles should never be forgotten! Jack Johnson must know this. This is why i will give him props. I cant wait to see him in Somerset, Wisconsin this summer!

  • this is cool. awesome job

  • i hate when people bitch about covers. he is playing it and making it his own. i like the Beatles version better but who the fuck rely cares Jack Johnson is awesome.

  • When the actual song starts and the other instruments kick in it sounds pretty epic. Not a bad cover overall.

  • not one of my faves artists but he is talented, not my prefered style but then again I don't like Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower so beauty is in the eye of the beholder obviously.

    Talented though for sure

  • Whether you like JJ or not, he took a great song and performed it in his own style. That's the way to do a cover tune. You show your respect to the original artist by choosing their tune. You show respect to your art by making it your own. It's not supposed to sound like the original. If I want to hear that...I'll listen to my Beatles CD's.

  • @JagerMikesterX Well said!!!!!

  • @JagerMikesterX i agree. both are awesome but if u wanna c the beatles version then go ahead u dont need 2 trash jack johnson

  • @TheGuitarplayer37 I dont think he is trashing Jack Johnson. I think he is just stating something for everyone who IS trashing Jack Johnson

  • @JagerMikesterX Perfectly said! i agree 100%....there is alot of bad beatles covers but this certainly is not one!

  • I like it, I think it could possibly be typical of Jack Johnson, but that sound of his is what's made him famous and one of my favorite modern artists. So, I have no problem with him keeping his "surfer-style sh**" music.

  • Not bad I s'pose

  • damn, he can't play it.... tryin' to play it in his surfer-style sh** music.

sorry, but i don't like the guys music.

  • than why the fuck did you take the time out of your life to listen to something you dislike sooo much and comment on it god get a life

  • it's so typical of jack johnson's style, were there not lyrics it would sound like any other of his homologous records. he's a pretty boring and dogmatic musician really

  • id VERY MUCH like to see you come up with a riff such as the one from Taylor, Good People, Bananna Pancakes, Do you Remember etc etc etc... the guys a genius

  • don't hold your breath.

    no, he's a hack.

  • this is a pretty good cover, which i don't really expect from beatles covers.

  • nice autographed in between dreams case in the middle of the song, man!

  • the best coverversion of this song is the richie havens version

  • Aerosmith cove? Cmon their cover of come together spoiled it, It has no soul.

  • doesnt compare, hard to cover a beatles tune tho

  • great cover. Can't be denied.

  • Awesome cover by Jack

  • i dont like his phrasing of the scatting parts, or the strum pattern of the guitar throughout the song, but overall its a decent cover

  • I used to to have a tape, recorded for me by the great Kenny Graham, on which Jack Sheldon, with Benny Goodman (I think). It's the best arrangements I#ve evert heard!

  • no matter who you are you gotta resect jack johnson he's a great guitarist and songwriter and this is actually a pretty good cover

  • i love jack johnson!

but, nobody can cover the beatles.

    its impossible.

  • Really? I love the Beatles too. But I happen to think Earth, Wind and Fire do a pretty mean cover of Got to Get You into My Life. Not to mention Aerosmith's cover of Come Together

  • what about a giant blanket?!?

  • @tidlerrbc69 live and let die is not a beatles song, paul mccartney wrote it in his solo carreer

  • @carvey18 Phish can, search Phish While My Guitar Gently Weeps, they rage.

  • @carvey18 PHISH can- they covered the entire white album on haloween in 94, and they consistently play A day In the Life and While my Guitar gently weeps. They fucking kill it

  • @carvey18 huh... looks like Jack Johnson just did.

  • @carvey18 True dat.

  • this was a good cover

  • i love the original of this, but this one is pretty good.

he changed it and made it his style.

i'd still rather listen to paul sing it though.

  • good

  • Damn, just stick to your values! This song ain't supposed to get covered.

Prefer the original version. Though I thought 'Imagine' bij Jack Johnson was good...

  • come on, sure it's not Sir Paul, but it's sounds good..

  • I love the original but don't hate.

  • hate it.

  • sorry dude you lost me on this one

  • lol!! god jack johnson sucks..

  • i LOVE jack jonson, and this is a fun catchy cover, but it doesnt even compare to the original. its fine though.

  • Terrible

  • i believe it is very well done , but you only judge it by looking the original , i think this is a version , not a cover.

  • i respect him for trying. what a bad ass song

  • I wouldnt say he butchered it but didnt do it justice. made it too poppy

  • To anybody saying this is a good cover:

Have you *heard* McCartney's voice in the original?

Such depth, such pain, such remorse, such emotion. You can almost feel the emotion. Not to mention the loss of the harmonica in this version is incredibly important.

I'm not of the opinion that the Beatles should never be covered. But you'd better be damn sure you aren't covering one of the greatest vocal demonstrations of McCartney's career.

  • He butchered this song.

  • i love jack johnson, but this song doesnt fit with him =)

  • i dont have anything against him but this cover is bad

  • Every single song... exactly the same.

i don't know what he's thinking covering any songs.

he should just stick to his own shitty songs.

  • honestly this is an awful cover. it sounds just like all of this other guys songs. and the beatles are the one band yuou never should cover.

  • This is a great cover. Jack gives it depth and makes the story come to life, especially at 1:50 and up. His voice is full of pain and remorse as if he is singing in memory of Rocky who bit off more than he could chew. You can see the influence The Beatles had on Jack, especially in Do You Remember. This is a great cover that you must not get if you don't appreciate.

  • I'm not going to say this is a bad cover. Because it's not by any means. I just think I took away a lot of the feeling of the song.

Still, this cover seems more...I guess happy is the best word I can find. So it's not to hear it with kind of a different spin.

  • yeah dude jacks real good, but he only has one specific kind of style.

  • bad cover and i really like jackie boy

  • Can't agree more. Jack Johnson has produced some great material, but this is ruddy awful!!!

  • love the song. don't like this cover, at least not the beginning parts.

doesn't even try the shriel after "girl of his fancy"

  • what do you mean he doesn't try shriel?

  • nevermind, i meant after "collapsed in the corner." jack does a small yelp

  • thats what i thought you meant...was making sure

  • i don't like it..

  • i hate him XD

  • everybody does he should have his vocal chords removed :D

  • i like this cover. Really good. You know he's a beatles fan becuz this isnt one of their more famous songs. Just another great person spreading their influence

  • I like Jacks covers of Bob Marley, and Jimmy Buffetts Pirate looks at 40, but this one nawt so much.

  • There's not a human or species that can surpass the beatles success. i looked on wikapedia to search the beatles hits. they had a whole at least 2 pages worth! come on, y waste ur time to beat the beatles achievements? it would take years upon years. <-------f.y.i, this is not an underestimation or insult to any covers!

BEATLES FOR LIFE!!! whos with me?

  • I'm with you! paul's my favourite!

    º°¨ ¸„ø¤º°¨„ø¤º°¨°º¤ø„¸¨°º¤ø„¸¸„ º¤ø„¸

    ¨°º¤ø„ ¸BEATLES FOREVER!!!º¤ø„¸

    ¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º „¸¨°º¤ø„¸¸„ ¸„ø¤ºand don' forget it!!!

  • Well I love the Beatles, but if you are making an argument never mention "wikapedia", you lost all sound of intelligence at that point...

  • i dunno man i dont think anyone who covers the beatles thinks they are "beating them" just honouring them. f y i you ever heard sinatra cover them? golden!

  • rocky raccoon jack johnson style. reminds me of in times like these by hm too

  • it's alright. not as good as i thought it would be. jack johnson is one of my favorite artists, and the beatles are my favorite band pre 1990.

  • Me encantan Los Beatles y amo a Jack Johnson YEAH!!!!

  • Biggest Beatles fan, and hes doing an amazing tribute!!!

  • I admire that someone has taken an underrated Beatles song and covered it. You can tell who the real Beatles fans are eh?

  • exactly

  • I wouldnt say this is an underated Beatles song, enough people know it, but I understand and agree with what you are saying.

  • very decent cover. cant hold a candle to the original Beatle's, but compared to james blunt's cover, superb

  • He's not trying to beat The Beatles or anything. I mean that is impossible and everyone knows it. He's just playing it with his own style, and I think he did a pretty good job with it.

  • Completely agree

  • this isnt a competition but a tribute

  • james blunt took the cake

take back what i said good sirs,

    but here's a haiku

  • this cover is garbage

    good attempt, but you

    can't beat the fucking

    Beatles (yes, capital B)

    version, ya pricks.

  • calm down,

if i recall the Beatles were about peace.

and im sure they wouldnt mind one bit with a taleneted artist such as jack johnson doing a respectible cover.

by saying that this is a good cover i promise none of the Beatles are going to strike you down with a lightning bolt.

    Peace

    not

    War

    good day sir

  • you're so dumb. jack johnson is great and all but he can never beat the beatles no matter how many covers he does.

  • What's up with the hate? Not much of a mystery that people will go to war over land/oil/whatever when all it takes for individuals to get into disagreements is which version of a song is better.....

  • Cut off your fucking ear you fucking muical moron!

PS - This cover is goat shit.

  • nice to see the correct spelling for "musical". thanks. cause i thought it was something else. great advice eezskeezy

  • That was a typo and this is still awful. What's your point?

  • Comment removed

  • leave jack alone, this is a good cover

  • welll.....it was alot better than the james blunt cover i just heard

  • not a bad song, but the beatles will forever be better then the next guy

  • He made it his own song, which I admire as most artists today tend to just copy the original when they cover a song. That said, I don't like it very much, it lacks the "something" the original had. Some songs/bands shouldn't be covered, and anything the Beatles did in the later part of their career (when they got away from being chased after by teenage girls) should be left alone.

  • uh, its not his own song.... Stick to the original when you cover the Beatles

  • I like Jack Johnson more then the next guy (probably) but this is bad.

  • Bealtles pwned youuu Jack.

  • The Beatles were always and always will be my favorite artist/band. My other favorites are changing all the time. Jack Johnson is one of the few that's managed to stay up there for longer than a year or so. So listening to both the Beatles and Johnson and loving their styles (If you can call the huge number of styles the Beatles used 1 single style), I can appreciate this version. I actually do like it.

But it doesn't come anywhere close to the original. Sorry Jack.

  • LAAAAAAAAAME so bad mtv MTV

  • why did you have to sing a great song so lame?

  • meh its ok....

  • the beatles do something with this song that no one else can do. sorry jack.

  • true

  • as with every other song he sings, he managed to put that annoying jack johnson sound in it. does the beatles NO JUSTICE. sucks all of the emotion out. if i was paul mccartney, i would punch him in the face.

  • all you who say it sucks are just hatin cause yall aint tight like jack you fuckin queers go listen to some emo fag shit

  • lucky you got his signature

    !!!

  • i like jack johnson but i think that the original version was better

  • yea this song is totally pussy, it sounds like any other song jack johnson does, it doesnt do any justice to the beatles version..CRAPPY

  • takes away from the western feel of the song in my opinion.

  • this could so be his song. I'm so used to the Beatle's original version though

  • I love Jack Johnson, but I really hate what he did to this song.

  • i'm agree duude jack johnson is fine but this coveer sucks

  • I don't know how he managed to suck so much emotion out of a very emotional song. Dreadful.

  • this guy is a prime example of what douchebags did to the guitar

  • hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • YES! thank you this SUCKS

  • i like this cover... even tho the honky tonk feel to it suits the song better ^^

  • at least its better than James Blunt's hahah

  • no it doesnt. don't be lame.

  • lennon is the best so shut it

  • paul sings this song
