  • there were probably no c651s or c751bs at that time

  • @ All those who have questions about the rolling stock: Read this and stop commenting about it once and for all.

In this video, only unrefurbished C151s are seen. C651s only came in 1994 a few years after this video was filmed.

  • it looks nice unrefurbished in a way

  • were these C151b painted black or turned into C651s?

  • @timothythamen They were refurbished. The black colour is actually a sticker and not paint. Since all C151s are refurbished, C651 is currently the only NSL-EWL train with a white body.

  • at that time SMRT only had C151 trains?

  • @timothythamen Yes. C651s only came in 1994.

  • that was my school! i agree we had short pants

  • cool!!!

  • 2:10 OLD YUHUA SECONDARY SCHOOL UNIFORM!

  • @kelvinickable that is some DAMN short pants o-o

  • due to some stain that are unremovable by bleach this train went under refurbishment

  • Thats the unrefurbished C151 train without the SMRT sign at the face

  • The MRT's off peak hr freq back in early 1990s was 8 mins a train la.

  • I was born in 2004,and I didn't get a chance to take the Branch Line

  • @giggslimws Neither did I. The Branch Line consists of Jurong East, Bukit Batok, Bukit Gombak and Choa Chu Kang. These 4 stations have been merged with the North South Line.

  • I was Born in 1994,and I really Miss The Old MRT sounds...

  • it was cool... Four languages, but now, mrt no more four languages... alamak!

  • @videopost987 Yes but the transfer details are announced in four languages while the next station announcement is announced in English.

  • @augpeh you mean clementi?

  • @videopost987 Not necessarily. For example, "Next station, Clementi." is announced in English only. When the train is approaching an interchange, "Passengers who are continuing their journey towards...........please crossover to platform...on the right/left." is announced in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.

  • I was not even born.At that time so many c651

  • @jodan977 At that time only C151s were around. C651s first came out in 1994 (if I'm not wrong)

  • @jodan977 Those are unrefurb C151s. C651s only came in 1994.

  • nhhhhhhhjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj

  • i was 17....sweet 17. those were the days

  • The four official language interchange announcement are back after more than 10 years!

  • 20 years ago, u could easily find seats in train..

now even though its off peak , still so hard to find...

  • @xbluezx23 gets like this in London on some of the Underground lines.

  • Got new platform at Jurong East interchange you know???

  • @artbbrain Yes, thanks.

  • That was long before i was born...

  • Anyway, what's the frequency for the trains on east west line at that time?

  • @jtzq333 sorry, I dont remember... long time ago!

  • @jtzq333 6 minutes. last time still dont have c751B,c151A n c651

  • I missed this scene a lot...so nostalgic compared to today when the trains are stuffed to the brim with passengers like sausages with tight casings

  • @justinpeng1998

Are they really that busy 'off peak'? I avoided the rush hours when filming the trains in Singapore.

  • @citytransportinfo it's really bad now. like during non-rush hours the people on the train would be double of this, but not as bad as japan or china though.

  • that one unrefurbished C151 i am referring to the video

  • types of trains now C651,C151,C751B,C151A,C751B,C830

  • @AdielRusyaidi And the C751As on the NEL...

  • hello

  • No announcement At 2:29?

  • @94Princesi In 1991. No announcement. Only made by the train operator.

  • @citytransportinfo

You are right that time you record it there was only one type C151 then in 1994 C651 arrived to Singapore from siemens (looked similar to C151) then when it came to 2000 C751B was delivered to singapore from Kawasaki and Nippon sharyo and now Kawasaki built a new type of train for the Singapore subway the C151A

  • @citytransportinfo

yes C651 is a type of train in Singapore there are four types C151,C651,C751B and the brand new C151A just went into commercial service

  • @Silverhedgehog1000

As well as C751A, C830 and the upcoming C951 that serves the North-east Line, Circle Line and the future Downtown Line, respectively.

  • Do you have a video that has C651 in the 90s

  • @Silverhedgehog1000 Is a "C651" a type of train?

This was my only visit to Singapore with a camcorder, and I think that at that time there was only the one type of train.

    Simon

  • @Silverhedgehog1000 He does not, as the C651 was not delievered till 199...4.

  • Wow...good memories.

  • OMG LOOK AT THOSE SHORT UNIFORM SHORTS HAHAHAHAHA

  • @mdzulkar9 In those days many school boys wore their uniform with really really short pants, it was somewhat like a trend then.

  • notice.. the old monorail announcement and old MRT announcement (english) was th same person!

  • Do they have the terminal announcements in the old days? :)

  • nice memories:)

  • wow.. can't believe that the MRT of SG is just the same as the one in Japan when it first opened.. wow..

well, reason: I was born in 1996... din't really know what the MRT is until like about 2001, when my "mind started remembering things clearly"..

    mm.. just wanna ask..

besides this, do you have anymore old videos of Singapore in the 90s, particularly the then-undeveloped Jurong West?

mm.. if possible, do upload them onto youtube yeah.. pls...

    thx ;]

  • @andrewlohrox dunno why yr msg was flagged as spam - seemed sensible to me!

anyway, Jurong West, sorry no. Other Singapore in 1990's?

Yes, at least 4 more :-) Another MRT film and the first (of two) from Sentosa coming within a few hours. Do you remember the old monorail??? Simon

  • @citytransportinfo The Sentosa Monorail's gone too, replaced by the air-conditioned Sentosa Express. The route is changed too.

  • At 2:16 all is Secondary students!

  • ah, the good old days...

  • Hmm.. So many memories. Watch the people, 1990s look the style of their's

  • and in no time, Jurong East will have a new platform!

  • LOVE THE ENGLISG OLD ANNOUNCEMENT and the buzzer!

  • NOW JURONG EAST NUMBER CODE WAS EW24 AND NS1.THE NORTHERN TERMINAL OF THE NORTH SOUTH LINE

  • old and new ...

  • Sorry for the third comment. :) I forgot to mention that the JEMP platform is opening around end of this month. It was only recently constructed.

  • Additional information: At the time of filming there was only one type of train: The C151 trains. They have all been refurbished and now features a black-red-grey livery on the outside.

    youtu.be/ z8r9jgbkank

Here's a video of one in service, at the end of the video it terminates at Jurong East Interchange too. Announcements now are made only in English on this line.

Jurong East now has a new island platform and track to increase the lines' frequency (Jurong East Modification Project)

  • Finally something from good ol' Singapore! The last time you uploaded a clip filmed in Singapore was in your "S" Stock video. :P

  • @joeyfjj At least 4 more films from Singapore to come... :-)

  • By now, the young girls here may have been old ladies.

  • @FunkyMark4211 middle aged more like... its only 20 years since I filmed this.

  • @FunkyMark4211 20 years later...

  • @FunkyMark4211 ......

  • I MISS IT!

  • Never expect a YouTube channel focusing on transport in London could feature my country's MRT system from an era long gone! Thanks for uploading this; this brings back memories as well as refreshing my memories on how our MRT system used to be run. I still remember those door chimes they used to use - that unfortunately got replaced with a overcomplicated announcement and buzzer, though sometimes they still use the chime, which I very much prefer.

  • @eXAKR Hi there, I am a citizen of planet earth who just happens to live in London. I also have films from Canada, Australia, America and Europe. Not just London!

    Simon

  • @citytransportinfo These trains have been refurbished and the station codes have been changed. The announcement voice has changed.Jurong east station code is EW24 and NS1
