And two, it wasn't until he found out that he had another baby on the way that he realized his mistake. Huh? So his rationale was "I don't want my son in my life. Wait I'm having another son? Ok now I do want both of them in my turbulent life" LOL.
I think he realized when was mistaken, when he found out Jimmy was going to take Abel... he realized whether him thinking Abel would be better off with the other family, didn't matter bc he will always be in danger being that he is his son. He realized then it was his job as his father to protect him... and giving him up wouldn't be adequate means of protecting him. It wasn't about him not wanting his son in his life, but rather where the child would grow up safely.

Jax loves his son so much he would let him go, let him go to live a happier and safer life. That is the love of a father, to do what is right for them, the best for them even if that means letting go.
I have to admit, if I was in Jax's shoes I would do the same thing. It would kill me inside but knowing they are safe and happy would give me the strength to carry on.
