  • @kjuyhfklujhkuyf What makes music great is all opinion. If Coldplay reworks the same song elements 100 times over, and people think it's great, then more power to them. If someone thinks the sound of grinding fingernails against chalkboard is great music, then more power to them. I personally think originality, ambition, sincerity, and innovation make music great - I prefer to hear new things. But like I said, people like all kinds of music and have their opinions, so listen to what you want!

  • Love the shoutout to Coldplay. Very different bands, both equally cool. Imagine if they toured together......

  • @peanutismint He was doing that ironically. I read a Cedric Bixler interview where he talks about how he hates Coldplay for being one of the many fake "alternative" bands that attempt to copy the most digestible parts of Radiohead's "OK Computer." I fully agree with him.

  • @kjuyhfklujhkuyf Well I fully disagree. Coldplay are not 'alternative', they're about as mainstream as you can get, and as such it has become cool to hate on them, despite them actually being one of the greatest bands in the world right now. Even if Cedric hates Coldplay, they love ATD-I (they flipped out on Twitter recently with news of the band reforming!). So maybe it'll be lonely for me being the only die hard genuine ATD-I *and* Coldplay fan??!

  • @peanutismint In Cedric's opinion, and in mine, originality is what makes music great, and there really are tons of bands like Coldplay just selling us the same dumbed down version of OK Computer over and over again. Cedric likes tons of mainstream stuff and so do I, that's not why we're anti-Coldplay.

  • Somewhere in there, Omar swapped guitars. How the fuck did he do that?

  • Yes Yes Yes!!! At the drive-in reunited :) best news ever

  • At the drive In!!! are back!!

  • REUNION ANNOUNCED!

  • THEY'RE COMING BACK!!

  • f**kin awesome band...but so glad to see Jim Ward actually move on from this...

  • @getupkid203 well i sounds like Jim Ward is trying to spite you then according to their reunion.

  • omar just ruins it...theres a difference between being a "genius" and being a "try hard"...i dont think he's a "genius"

  • Glorious chaos.

  • "Siinsational!"

  • repost with better sound quality please>>?? LOVE THE DRIVE IN

  • wormed our way through distant earth

  • "This one's for our boys in Coldplay - COLDPLAY"

  • Apparently, ATDI (Jim in particular) and Coldplay did become friends at one point. Quick google search:

"We end up spending a lot of time together and the big joke on that tour was that I just wanted to hang out with the pale guys since I was the only white guy [in the band],” Ward continues with a laugh. The friendships blossomed to hospitality, with Ward recalling that when At the Drive-In cancelled the last dates of their 2001 European tour, they stayed with members of Coldplay in England."

  • HEY, IT'S A YOUTUBE COMMENT-THREAD ARGUING ABOUT THE SUPREMACY OVER TWO RELATED BANDS. I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE, EVER.

  • I love atdi, tmv and glassjaw!!!

  • pattern against uner LOL

  • best band ever

  • All the Jim ward haters can suck a dick along with all of the TMV haters. But I so wish they couldve reconciled their differences

  • @canesrule96 they already have dude. omar and cedric mentioned that all the members of atd-i met at omars house about a year ago... yeah.

  • You know... Coldplay

Before they went mainstream ... Which is regrettable

  • All our boys at Coldplay? Haha, I can't tell what they're suggesting with that.

  • @platinumdynamite he's mocking them

  • O HAAYAYAYY AY YYA OOOO H ??? FOLLOWING! ADA LLLL AL ALA FOLLowineeen halloweeen GATES OF WAHHHH!

  • Jabba is a stupid rude bloke. He doesnt even know the band. How offensive can he be. I wonder how good that interview would have been..

  • @themarsvolta23 I know for a fact that Jabba is a big fan of at the drive in. so you can just shove that up your ass!

  • @littlebd7 ahh no, Im sorry mate. I didnt mean to upset you. Your probably right anyway. He must be a die hard fan. He couldnt even get the name of the song right at the end and didnt know who their names, only knew Cedric and Omar but hey your proabably right. Sorry mate, I'll have to shove whatever it is you want me to shove up my ass, up my ass..

  • @themarsvolta23 umm.. dude, For starters normally TV hosts get the bands they have on the show to introduce them selfs for, you know, the people who are hearing them for the first time. secondly, he accidentally said the name of the song wrong then corrected himself straight after. I also happen to go to school with Jabbas son who listens to at the drive in and tells me about how his dad introduced him to them.

  • @littlebd7 Settle down mate. You dont have to get all upset over a little comment. I said you are right. Jabba is one of the biggest fans going around. I know for a fact he is cos remember how you said so? Im sure Jabbas son can make you feel better. Im sure he can make you feel sexy again. You little queer cunt.

  • @themarsvolta23 And I'm sure that making homophobic slurs and children will continue to make you feel better.

  • @littlebd7 at*

  • did they say "this one's for our boys at coldplay"?

  • @arleydoorwell thats what it sounds like to me too. but I'd love confirmation

  • Being in tune...is for pussies.

  • @raulsauce12 The whole out-of-tune thing is really deceptive though. At the Drive-In kind of has it both ways because, structurally, they're honestly writing really approachable songs. Very traditional, almost pop, in a sense. But then they drop this storm of wild lead sound over top of it, which obscures that. And when they're bending those lead parts out of key, it's only slight. It doesn't tear the song's fabric. Brilliant band, but not as outlandish as some think they are.

  • hypodermic people poking fun at the living.

  • I think this is one of the best vocal performances by Cedric.

  • I think the tuning is irrelevant for them. It's still an incredible song.

  • i want to see the interview after the performance!!

  • atill the best

  • their tuning sounds HORRIBLE

  • Breathtaking...

I don't usually use that word describing a song section.

But the bridge of this song... It's breath taking. A perfect contrast to the chaos of the verse and chorus.

  • @deafcon4 why the fuck would he want to be in tune?

  • what was that about coldplay, some kind of joke, or were they really friends with them?

  • this guy is wierd 0.o

  • his style of singing makes me think of zack de la rocha

  • The host at the end strangely reminds me of Tom Green

  • The two boys need to crawl back out of each other's asses and get the band back together.

  • gawh, such an amazing group of musicians.

  • 3:48 cedric is thinking what the hell is wrong with this guy?? lol

  • This is not HD video and still is all good — hail 90's.

  • Relationship of Command is up there with Pet Sounds!

  • dude they were TOP form for this fucking song. brilliant live performance.

  • There's a lot of Fugazi influence here I would imagine, although its not like Ive ever asked em.

  • @ChonnyChimole Definitely dude! Soon as that part starts at 0:23 i can start to hear similarities to fugazi. Fugazi and ATDI are both awesome so its also not a bad thing haha

  • Does anyone agree the Jim looks very much like Mark Lanegan ?

  • I don't know what that host was on, but I want some of that shit

  • COLDPLAY hahahahaha best ever

  • Was Omar ever in tune?

  • @deafcon4 I believe that Omar is one of the few guitarists who can get away with not being in tune.

  • @deafcon4 lol that's not important.

  • @deafcon4 im not even sure they knew where they were

  • @deafcon4 Is Omar EVER in tune?

  • @deafcon4 Do he need to be in tune?

  • @mynamedoesntfitgah It would help, and you could use a verb as well.

  • @deafcon4 simple answer. nope.

  • @deafcon4 Omar...is never in tune.

  • @deafcon4

Probably not, it never was. I'm still decided whether Omar is a genius or the worst guitarist in the world.

  • @deafcon4 he sounds just like the recording? this is post hardcore brother, not high school musical

  • @benjammin415 post hardcore or not, guitar player usually prefers the sound of their guitar in tune, or at least G strings and higher they do, the bottom 3 dont really fuckin matter though, steve albini tuned his guitar often and he's basicly a god of post-hardcore

  • if they ever get together again id just walk across the street and listen from the sidewalk lol

  • fuuuuucking glorious!

  • The members of ATDI always did disrespect their own listeners, especially those who came on board after Relationship of Command came out. So no wonder that they're still taking a crap on their own musical legacy together. The problem with a reunion from Cedric's viewpoint is that they'd be playing music from "10 years ago," and they're all so much more advanced today than they were then.

  • I,m new to atdi and all I can say is wow.I tried on some mars volta , still waitng for it to grab me.I have to agree with Cedric's view point, they have advanced so much that I can't comprehend it , way to take the average listener out of the equation.look foward to an ATDI REUNION

  • @lawyerly can you explain!

  • @WherethisAllStarted These guys made really challenging, interesting music together. But they never seemed to respect their fans, and don't have much respect for people who are still listening to their old stuff - because it's old, and because they've all moved beyond this material (from their point of view). I like their music, but they're kind of jerks.

  • @lawyerly Alright I see your point of view. I thought you were going to tell a story of them demeaning a fan or something.

  • @lawyerly Sounds more like you don't have respect for them and the fact that bands change. Playing the same music album after album may get boring. You want them to just keep playing the same thing for you and people like you who only listen to a bands' debut album?

  • @DevilsRejects007 Uh, these guys couldn't stand one another and broke up. They didn't show any respect for their listeners when this material was brand new. And yes, you're right, I don't have respect for bands that abuse their own audience.

  • @lawyerly what do you mean?

  • who the fuck disliked this, if you're going to be looking at video of at the drive in, then you would probably have to know the band, and if you know the band then you would not dislike... ... ... ... !

  • @Pinesol23 Yes! No one is entitled to an opinion unless it's positive!

  • Holy shit, Omar with a mustang!

  • MArs Volta and Sparta went to the extremes and sailed away from what made ATDI Amazing. ATDI is the balance between them, and far far mucho better!

  • @freymaroto i love atdi but i love the experiemental side of mars volta

  • they have to be one of the greatest bands to exist within 20 years.

and for those 17 people... shame on you.

  • One of the best modern (post-)hardcore bands ever.

  • What. A. Fucking. Band.

I remember listening to One Armed Scissor on a Kerrang CD in like 2001 and it blew my fucking mind.

Wish they'd come back, Mars Volta are good but they're not the same...

  • @russ0r My friend gave me a copy of Relationship and Command three years ago. When i heard it i was like now this is a band.Dont ask me how i over looked them for so many years.I rate them now as my favourite band of all times. No one comes close.I have never ever got sick of thier albums..Not many bands u can say that about.Volume is the key too these guys.Smash the system.Kim

  • wowww...

maybe this guys can come back...

  • agree with SoaringLotus every band now days is like a pussy boyband

    ATDI is incredible

  • The quality on this sucks... The other atdi channel v vids are better. Why not this one?

  • 2:32 - 2:42 i'm speechless...

  • google the harlow defense

    big ATDI fans.

not trying to sound exactly like them or ride nuts.

    just really like that band.

if you like it, cool. we're doing something right... or something.

    if not, kthxbye.

  • I BET THEY DONT LISTEN TO COLDPLAY AT ALL!

  • @UnsureBunny i think they're just good acquaintances..

  • lmfao pattern against uner, come have a CHAT

  • lol the music show host is either excited or on coke

  • @IKillLittlegirls a bit of both lol

  • it sounds awesome, for being a live performance of a band with such a complex sound.

  • love at the drive-in. its real post-hardcore, not like escape the fate faggy screamo and metalcore scene music that disguises itself as post-hardcore. whats funny is that without all the kinds of music i listen to, the kinds of music i dont listen to wouldnt exist, but nobody's ever said "without my kind of music, your's wouldnt exist" to me and be right about it, i actually love fuckin classical and jazz and blues and all that. i get carried away with my comments...

  • Is that guy Limp Bizkits little brother or something?

  • all these atdi videos are really bad quality

  • The Australian dude looks like he's annoying ATDI.

  • @samster92

    Jabba annoys everone:)

  • @kesfree Lol I heard him call Omar like four times.

  • Cedric and Omar took the experimental, alternative, and Latin side of At the Drive In with them to The Mars Volta while the rest took the catchy riffs, punk sound, and more controlled parts with them to Sparta.

Darn it! Why wasn't I born earlier to hear these two great combinations shoved into one kick butt band with that most raw power jump around kind of feeling that made you just want to go nuts and wake up your neighborhood and get arrested?!

    Gah...we need moar ATDI

  • 2 Things.

I love ATDI and The Mars Volta.

Also what the fuck is the british guy wearing?!?

  • @greenguy111 what british guy? the presenter? he's australian.

  • @thegbhwill Oh ok sorry. But dude is he a wanna be Limp Bizkit? lol

  • post hardcore FTW!

  • Jim Ward is such a tool, he brings the band down with his goofy whiteboy drawl. He can dedicate a song to Coldplay without irony, its not hard to see why Cedric and Omar left, he just doesn't get it, his mindset is tuned to a different station. He'll still be wearing a baseball cap and be parodically playing three-chord punk as he sags into middle-age... then again maybe I'm worse, and I'll be spouting hot-air over the internet as I sag into old age.

  • @GuiltedbytheSun Dude, Cedric does the same stuff. When they played the Electric Ballroom live for De-Loused In The Comatorium for the Mars Volta Cedric was like "We're Mudvayne"(look up the video for proof). They just do that they all have bigger mouths than their face can hold when it comes to their musical opinions as far as I've heard from them. Don't talk shit about someone you don't even know.

  • I'm sorry but, am I the only person who noticed how awful there guitar player sounds? He isn't even in tune. I don't normally comment on this kind of stuff.

  • @lengrandband Good job noticing that. You can observe musical theory. Now musical emotion, you can't. I'm saying this with no intent to argue or start "youtube shit", but you don't get this band. Of no fault of your own, its something that happens to everybody, everybody has their own tastes in music. Now go listen to some music that you enjoy

  • @melongabg I'm not saying the emotion isn't there, I can see the boys are into it, but I happened to stumble across this video, like most things on youtube and wondered if people actually didn't care that the guitar player is just whacking notes without any idea of what's going on. Like this is ok, nowadays? Anyways, comments are meant to be comments, good or bad. It's a comment this video deserved.

  • @lengrandband instead of just :checking video's out", why don't you watch a min, of 3 before you make ignorant comments. YES the music nowadays is GARBAGE but this is one band that has substance and longevity! The front man is amazing at that.

  • @bostonjoemattson The comment is at this video in particular.

  • @lengrandband He's a fairly renowned guitarist, this is earlier in his career but look at The Mars Volta or his solo stuff. I wouldn't say he's hitting random notes, He knows what hes doing, but I would agree that he gets quite self-indulgent with his playing.

  • fuck zeppelin nirvana and pantera.

  • @dominicdit

    word d ^_^ b

  • Come watch my video SYMPHONY OF THE GUITAR RIFF. Its got tons of classic guitar hooks from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and Pantera all played back to back to create a rockin' extravaganza!!!-_-!!!

  • @twistswitch how about go fuck yourself?

  • you can tell from the style of singing and guitaring that cedric and omar were at least RELATIVELY sobre. i prefer cedric that way, omar's just always amazing. I miss when this was considered popular music, ATDI need to reunite for the sole purpose of getting rid of the dumber music that's out there right now. they attacked boy bands with relationship of command lol.

  • damn, they were ace right before they broke up.

  • they're ace now. the mars volta.

  • mars volta have nothing on ATDI. Cedric/omar without Jim is like a dog without a bone.

  • coldplay? the band?? i want to die

  • This is an amazing performance...though you can feel the intensity within the band watching it...

  • "This one's for our boys at coldplay. COLDPLAY!"

  • @Lachy101 i think he says "this one's for our boys codeplay CODEPLAY"

  • @joshingledew ... its prety obviously coldplay. lol

  • Did he say Coldplay:):):):)

  • @ArtTheAmo ¿?what did he say about Coldplay??

  • I've been an ATDI fan for about 5 years now... and I just wanted to say that they changed my life, musically, and emotionally. They were the begining of everything I am now, and I don't know where I'd be without this band. Everyone wants a reunion, but if they ever did have a reunion, the demand wouldn't be as high...it's kind of like if Kurt Cobain hadn't killed himself, and Nirvana were still a band, and playing shows, the public wouldn't crave so much of either band.

  • love it so much

  • absolutely great

  • so why do you think they called their best-of "this station is non-operational"? Right, to leave the suggestion open that the station might be operational again in the future...

  • "This station is non-operational" would imply that the station is not going to be operational in the future.

  • jim definitely peaked in ATDI. and while TMV is harder to relate to, at least they've progressed musically. i'm glad that there's never going to be a reunion, because they dont even talk to each other and at the most it would just be for publicity.

  • typical tmv fan post. jim peaked in atdi? are you kidding, have you even listened to sparta or sleepercar? sparta's porcelain is probably one of the best alt. rock records ever.

tmv and sparta are completely different bands and shouldn't even be compared to each other but always will be because of atdi.

  • @skrlxrs

i have listened to sparta. and he's just making the same kindof music he was in atdi, except its not as progressive. he makes good alt rock records, but it's been done before. theres nothing wrong with that, but he's not pushing himself in anyway other than "now i'm going to make typical folky singer/songwriter music". don't get me wrong, he's good, i guess i just expected something less average from a member of atdi.

  • Cedric spaks now and again with all of the guys , this is in a new interview, there wont be a reunion or anything lame like that but they speak!

  • Why the fuck can more hardcore bands be like this just 1percent like this. Now bands are like feminine and shit with the eye liner and shit and the frilly voice come the hell on

  • @SoaringLotus ALLRIGHT MAN! finaly someone real! I agree with u on that

  • @SoaringLotus

lotus...it has nothing to do with feminism or eye liner. You sound retarded.

  • @SoaringLotus Wow, I can't believe that's the highest rated comment.

Come on, man. I'm a girl and I love this band. I don't think femininity is what makes music shitty, but the lack of skill and passion that's actually required to make the music. The guys who wear eye liner and shit are just following a fad because they want their band to be popular. THAT's the problem. Plus, they sound like whining donkeys when they try to put emotion in their music (Never Shout Never and billions more)

  • @LmaoLaneyLee yeah i agree and also lolz omar and cedric were very effiminate and sassy

  • @LmaoLaneyLee Whether someone wears eyeliner or shit has nothing to do with whether their music's good or bad.

  • @LmaoLaneyLee Very well said.

  • @SoaringLotus Hardcore being about Feminine eye liner with frilly voices? I don't know what kind of hardcore you're listening to, but you should go check out Have Heart. This is more of the beginning of main stream experimental. This lead for popularity to accumulate for Circa Survive, and other bands with emphasis on Minor chords and leads.

  • Not only would they be just as good, but possibly even better. They have the looks, talent and charisma

  • song's too good.

  • I seriously think that, if these guys got back together, it wouldn't be a shitty reunion at all. It would probably be just as powerful as it was before.

  • Don't Omar wants to though, he was quoted as saying something like he doesn't want to play songs from 15 years ago. So I don't know what the chances are.

  • it was songs for 15 year olds.

  • i m 16 and i love it :D

  • You know they'd be keeping it real if they did, probably be a fight onstage, would be entertaining at least....

There's no way they will get back together, ever. No dice.

  • pure energy, gives me chills

  • does anybody know what jim screams at the beggining of the chorus (BLABLABLA, pattern against user, dilated...)? it is not in the booklet lyrics...

  • "and we're following"? :S

    later just "following" :S

sounds really like this.. but I dont know..

  • Follow me? Sounds like it

  • he says follow me

  • this is probably the best sounding live perfomance i have ever seen by these guys. i fucking miss them , and they need to reunite.

  • most definitely, Mars Volta and Sparta are good and all, but they just don't have the energy that ATDI had...

  • @kevinsomnia That means you never saw TMV live.

  • @kevinsomnia thats so true but still TMV and sparta are so different. but still everyone will find something great in those 3 amazing bands

  • Good News Cedric said in rolling stone that the band is on good terms again. They are currently working out their legal issues to gain control over their band's older records and any future ones. Any new material would be amazing. Just a matter of time?

  • At the drive in reuniting is what my dreams are made of, they had my heart since I first heard relationship of command, after that I dove in head first and Ive never gotten enough.

  • same man... they are actually making another album or just touring?

  • This makes me happy at the possibilities!
