  • lol good one

  • TROLLIN!

  • lol infected with radiation

  • how many mega pixels is you''re camera?

  • 10, but you would be wrong to judge any camera by its pixel number, and not by its pixel density. By the way, i failed a nice youtube conversion: the original movies are much better.

  • Yeah , but it's not the same if you have a 6MP ore a 10MP camera...

    I want to buy a kodak c1013.

What's you're type? Cause it makes good videos!?

  • wow what a big queen! nice job i hope if u put another vid how many ants are now in that tube o.o

  • did you order these or where did you get 'em?

  • I got them from Australia, legally, but only after a long time of trouble tryiong to get them.

  • hmmm... i should build an ant colony this summer! awesome! i hope i'll remember it :P

  • is that huge fugly thing a queen!?!?

i saw a brown one before... i didnt know it was a queen though ... YUUUCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  • hey can u pm me on what i can get to capture ants in so they wont climb up it cause i kinda wanna raise ants lol and study them they are interesting

  • Very cool.

I've never seen a green ant before, they kind of remind me of leaves.

  • hm not bad

  • never seen a green ant ive seen orange ants but not green ones

  • thats one big ant!

  • its creepy but amazing how the ants respond to the queen like we do the president...

  • Are you a lifeguard of the president or so? I hope you don't jacknife for any president... Workers have very good genetic reasons for their behaviour: the queen is their best shot of getting their genes spread. If workers carry genes that make them treat the queen good, those genes get spread in the gene pool.

  • i don't know why i keep watching these bug videos they keep giving me the creepy crawlies!

  • THATS DISTURBING.

  • Definitely disturbing in the eye of some beholders.

Thank you for another valuable contribution.

  • why did you put the queen ant in a tube? I just captured a queen ant and was wondering what should i do? should i put it in a tube and wait till it lays eggs, or just put it in my jar with dirt?

  • Best in a tube with a water reserve. It also depends on the species. Some species ar incapable of starting a colony on their own.

  • last questions. how long should the tube be or does it not matter?

  • For the queen alone; 1.5 body length long, and 1 body length wide is enough. A littlebit larger is ok, a lot larger, and she will lay eggs all over the place, and waste energy.

  • fuck no kill the bitch

  • OMG!!!....its big enough tobite your finger off!!!

  • w-w-wow but you know she was eating her babies ifully saw!!

  • and the worker taking care of her and eggs>.>

  • is that a queen ant because i see an egg right there

  • I think it´s Oecophylla smaragdina

  • never saw an ant that was green b4

  • can anyone tell me what kind of ant is this? and how big it is say in comparison to a penny

  • Do you even look for information, for example, the scientific name in the labels???

  • Holy shit, creepy

  • wtf is that clear blob? Is that supposed to ba an ant-in-the-making?!

  • It is an ant larva: they 'stick' it to the side of the tube. It is probably attached to leaves like that in their normal leaf nests. On the left is its head, the darker is caused by its gut content.

  • WHOA!

  • not happy still wan reply then pls fark off =)

  • I believe they are green CAUSE THEY RAN OUT OF BREATH! :O 5 dollars she will die :D :( i want one thou>!

  • isn't that sad that people catch up ants and lock them up in a tube, bored off their butts? I would hate that, sometimes i buy animals just to set them free

  • haha wtf wow

  • if you watch the other videos you can see this is a very healthy and active colony, the ants are probably doing what they would do in a natural colony. Releasing animals in enviroments where they dont belong is a very stupid thing to do. Youre probably causing more harm than good. I don't see whats the point in telling strangers in youtube you set animals free. are you expecting aplause?

  • I was going to answer something in the same sense, except I forgot. Sadly, the queen of this colony died, for unknown reasons. She died out of the blue, none of the workers had any symptoms. Sometimes that happens. If it would have been because of bad conditions, the workers would have been 'falling' first.

Mastastick2, I can only congratulate you on your ignorance on biology.

  • I removed some spam: if it is not even an opinion, it must be spam.

  • agreed ==

  • Ur lucky to find one of those, i could never find those when i was little. How did u find it?

  • the size of the thing it huge imagine seeing that in you sneaker

  • how big is that queen? Looks humongous but theres no perspective or other objects for comparison

  • 15 mm

  • damn that was quick lol

  • i wonder what will happen to the other ants if the queen dies.

  • This queen actually died, and the colony died out without it. It took a relatively short period of time.

If it is a large colony Oecophylla workers could produce males and princesses.

  • You know that they'd never reproduce, right?

  • What do you mean?

I have never read of any conclusive evidence for thelytoky in Oecophylla, but I have definitely read that there would be. Search: "Ledoux, Oecophylla, thelytoky"

  • Ants never reproduce when put into a formicarium...breeding is the holy grail of domesticiced ants.

  • It is not that strict: ant species have 2 mating strategies: the mating flight, and the female calling syndrome. In the mating flight, females won't accept to mate unless they have flown a certain distance. In the female calling syndrome, they call for males and do not need a flight.Your holy grail would be to adapt a queen's mind in such a way that she thinks she has flown that specific distance.I'm gonna try matings in several species this year.

  • Good luck.

  • where did you get a green ant queen? When I got my young friend an ant colony and farm before, all it was were those regular, small, boring little black ants that are all over the place. I remember when I was little I tried catching some red ants and their queen at my elementary school, but I dug into a cave full of angry stinging/burning soldier ants, lol's.

  • god she is beautiful. wish i could get some weaver ants. oh well.

  • Does she not mind the light? I suppose being a weaver ant she is used to the light passing through the leaves into the nest anyway :).

  • does it bite?

  • Cool!! Hey what do you have those ants in? I'm also wondering, do you think it is bad to house a colony of ants in csyrifome. -Gosh I am such a bad speller- srry

  • I'm keeping one of my Pheidole pallidula colonies in a polystyrene/styrofoam tray filled with clay/soil/sand, they are fine as long as they have heat ventilation and water(and food when required).

  • hey and how big are they in inches?

  • The workers are not so big: They are small and larger workers. In inches, its a littlebit difficult for me: (One inche is 25 mm): 6 or 9 millimeters is 1/4 to 1/2.5 of an inch. The queen is 18 mm (3/4 inch), but she can grow to just over an inch.

  • hey did u catch does cause if u did can u tell me were u

    cought them and how

  • They are Australian, and not easy to get or to export legally. You would need a contact with export permits.

  • she looks huge!!!!!

  • i believe they are weaver ants.

  • i got a black queen to i watched here burrow into mud and i havent see her since is she dead or just laying some eggs shes been there for about three days now

or are they souposed to come out and get food or something

  • Some people say you don't feed the queen, just water. Is that true? I have a large black queen that has laid some eggs a few weeks ago, but they arrnt getting very big. any tips?

  • In species with independent colony formation, you don't need to feed the queen. Just give her a good supply of water, and enough humidity. The eggs take some time to hatch, a few weeks is normal. Make sure they get the right temperature.

  • cool can you help me find some queens in Long Beach xD lol

  • they look like leaf cutter ants

  • I think not: all ants look like ants, but these are Weaver ant: Oecophylla smaragdina.

  • I dont get it, Why would she need to clean her self?

  • This is an incipient colony. At that point there were only a few workers. The queen was the most active ant in the brood nest. She was more active in nursing, feeding, and helping the eclosing workers than the workers. Only in very big colonies, where the queen is a virtual egg laying machine, she will be fed and cleaned continuously, and have very active glands that will attract the workers' attention.
