  • @pekadaja Paul Schmidt took the path not taken when he adopted Rimbaud. Unlike other very talented translators like Louise Varese and Wallace Fowlie, Schmidt threw himself entirely into Rimbaud's footsteps even trying to duplicate Rimbaud's adventures. Schmidt decided that Rimbaud's work was not really translatable and that it would be better served as an English interpretation free from any artifacts of translation. Of course academics were outraged. Schmidt's works continues to draw new fans.
