@jomamasofatt It's kyokushin, no punches to the head are allowed in their sparring ruleset. I assume that's why his hands are kept low, there's no need to defend his head and they're closer to the other guy's body to hit him.
@neckha1r Kicks can be slower than punches, maybe they figure they can avoid them *shrug* I dunno, I don't do kyokushin, I only know they don't allow punches to the head. Like I said, I'm assuming their reasoning.

The problem with these contests between different martial arts is that you rarely see both opponents at the same skill level. I wonder his well the karateka would do against a Shaolin monk? Perhaps the same but perhaps not.
I see many people here who based their judgement on the result of a style against other style fight. There is NOT a most effective style of fighting in fight sports. Becoming a great fighter doesn't depends on the style, it depends on your personal fighting skills, work and qualities. I practiced a few fight sports and martial arts. I disliked some and liked some, but i still respect all of them. Keep training hard!

All of these comments about styles and things... It doesn't matter whether it's kung fu or karate. Winner of a fight would be based on personal skill. How to obtain that skill is by finding the right teacher and how hard you train yourself. It is hard to find good teachers in a lot of areas of the world. Those karate guys did look pretty solid. I wonder how they'd fair up against a ju-jitsu guy lolol. I do kung fu ~ those kung fu guys trying to fight in style when it wasn't working l0l.
@Shindai no particular style. the 'system' i am in teaches you general foundation training in many areas, different forms, different training techniques(footwork/punching/kicking/all of the above../qigong even). Until u go deeper then you can start specializing in a style.. or m0re.
@dontfeo Um, against ju-jitsu, I would bet on the jj, because they would just go into feet and then work on the ground. Ofcourse if the karate-ka is smart, there is a chance of ending the fight before the ground game starts, but this chance is really small.

In a nutshell? these karate guys were better fighters today. WOW, the first two guys reallly sucked.

Karate is not sucks at all it makes your body much tougher and give you technick . So don't say it is wors than kung fu becouse there is no point the only thing make this fight settled is the skill of the fighters . And don't tell me i am fond of karate becouse i do muay thai .
this is not realy a proper match seeming as kung fu is meant for real fights, not sparing matches kung fu was created to defend yourself and possibly if needed to kill if there was no other option, whereas Karaté is used more to defend yourself watch any real shaolin kung fu master in a fight karate wouldn't survive, also karate is based on shaolin kung fu.
I don't know what the drunken boxers were thinking actually attempting to use it in a fight. I've been to China to train in Shaolin, and i know for a fact that drunken boxing is a modern wushu form, purely for show. Idiots. Had this been traditional Kung Fu the karate guy would have been owned.

@Shindai the reason you thought they are similar in some ways because Karate that Japan has today was learned nd brought back from China during the Tang Dynasty, and "Kara" stands for Tang in Japanese toward Great Tang Dynasty back then.
@tomascasals true americanized karate does suck it might as well be TKD but real Okinawan Karate doesn't suck. it is very similar to southern styles of kung fu because thats where it was derived... that being said please do a little more research on styles before you say they suck;)
@83BigTommy i wasnt specific, thats where i failed, many many people doesn't even know the differences between ITF taekwondo and Karate and that's why americanized karate is some sort of mix between taekwondo and a little bit of original karate. And depending on the context, it sucks or not, because karate is a way to defend and fight, kung fu is a way to defend (and hit the fuck out of your opponent) if really needed, karate is more fisical, kung fu is more spiritual (also sorry for my english)
@tomascasals karate doesnt really suck. a true martial artist would have respect for all forms as they all have their strengths and granted, their weaknesses. however, if you feel that one form is better than another, then you are obviously being subconsiously biased as you have studied kung-fu longest and have moved on to harder areas whereas in karate you would still be practising the easier tasks. i have been studying karate for over a year now and can honestly say that is does not suck.

I don't how man, the Karate students are actually doing Tae Kwon Do. Karate is quite a static form of martial arts, not so lively or bouncy and full of kicking. The Kung Fu dojo selected a poor bunch of students to represent them. Its weird though, I studied Capoeira for a long while, and on average, we were obliterated by the Kung Fu dojo. So its surprising to see them get their assholes fed to them.
this is not fake. any of the fighters have good skills, but the ones with the Drunken Monkey(type of Kung Fu) and the one with the ordinary kung fu are worse

@Shindai I used to study Wing Chun, after having studied judo as a child and Taekwondo as an adolescent. I believe I can say with a great degree of certainty that this is a propaganda film and does not accurately portray the strengths of kung fu in general. These artists are most definitely very green in their studies. Also, they are completely lacking the explosive force that would negate the distanced sweet spot of karate, closing the distance and unleashing a barrage upon the pitiful foe.

@Djrokai i don't care how much training you have, if multiple people came at you with weapons and you couldn't run you'd be screwed. I've seen the lacerated back (spinal cord was cut and crippled him) of a world class kickboxer who got surprised by a knife and that's one on one. lol MMA is a joke. They do not allow real kungfu in because most kungfu is for killing as opposed to hurting. I study Shaolin Kungfu & Tai Chi, and I can verify that it is very possible to win against people with weapons, as well as in 2 seconds you can make someone stab themselves with their own knife. My instructor has a scar on his chest from bein in a knife fight vs two brothers. MMA is great as mixed martial but won't stand up to Shaolin atleast.. not sure bout other kung fu's

@83BigTommy i wasnt specific, thats where i failed, many many people doesn't even know the differences between ITF taekwondo and Karate and that's why americanized karate is some sort of mix between taekwondo and a little bit of original karate. And depending on the context, it sucks or not, because karate is a way to defend and fight, kung fu is a way to defend (and hit the fuck out of your opponent) if really needed, karate is more fisical, kung fu is more spiritual (also sorry for my english)

@tomascasals karate doesnt really suck. a true martial artist would have respect for all forms as they all have their strengths and granted, their weaknesses. however, if you feel that one form is better than another, then you are obviously being subconsiously biased as you have studied kung-fu longest and have moved on to harder areas whereas in karate you would still be practising the easier tasks. i have been studying karate for over a year now and can honestly say that is does not suck.

I don't how man, the Karate students are actually doing Tae Kwon Do. Karate is quite a static form of martial arts, not so lively or bouncy and full of kicking. The Kung Fu dojo selected a poor bunch of students to represent them. Its weird though, I studied Capoeira for a long while, and on average, we were obliterated by the Kung Fu dojo. So its surprising to see them get their assholes fed to them.

@Shindai I used to study Wing Chun, after having studied judo as a child and Taekwondo as an adolescent. I believe I can say with a great degree of certainty that this is a propaganda film and does not accurately portray the strengths of kung fu in general. These artists are most definitely very green in their studies. Also, they are completely lacking the explosive force that would negate the distanced sweet spot of karate, closing the distance and unleashing a barrage upon the pitiful foe.

This is pretty much made to mock kung fu, the kung fu fighters here totally suck. No guard, no timing, not even accuracy they are throwing punches yo the air. The karate dudes are precise and fast and way better.

@Djrokai i don't care how much training you have, if multiple people came at you with weapons and you couldn't run you'd be screwed. I've seen the lacerated back (spinal cord was cut and crippled him) of a world class kickboxer who got surprised by a knife and that's one on one. Two or three people with knives, I don't care who you are, you're not gonna fare well. My comment wasn't intended to be derogatory to JKD but I dunno if they pressure test, whereas I know MMA does.

lol MMA is a joke. They do not allow real kungfu in because most kungfu is for killing as opposed to hurting. I study Shaolin Kungfu & Tai Chi, and I can verify that it is very possible to win against people with weapons, as well as in 2 seconds you can make someone stab themselves with their own knife. My instructor has a scar on his chest from bein in a knife fight vs two brothers. MMA is great as mixed martial but won't stand up to Shaolin atleast.. not sure bout other kung fu's
