  • I remember this is the first song I heard on the radio when I was little & never forgot this one.

    Still a favorite.

    .

  • Guys in jackets & ties, girls in dresses, my generation. We watched "Bandstand" each day after school on a B&W 13" TV. Great era to grow up in glad I was there ! Thanks for the post !

  • @LMHS63 I'm glad for those days too. We were truly blessed.

  • This is a great song, thanks for the wonderful music, Robin Luke

  • I was barely walking when this came out . . . but I remember hearing it on my mom's radio in the kitchen!!

  • I have this 45 and played it non-stop during the 60.s

  • grew up in Thailand get to learn English by singing (MIMIC) the American song.

  • Love this ... magic music to this four-year-old (in 1958).

  • Love this song! And it's always interesting seeing scenes of people dancing to the songs during the time it was on the charts. I guess those dancing teens in this video are in their 60's and 70's now. I wonder if any of them have gotten on Youtube and seen themselves dancing from 50 plus years ago?

  • @bluecatky Indeed some of us have, and do. I danced on Bandstand 8 times in 59 and 60. Great memories and Youtube has really helped re-live them. ty

  • @edddk12 You danced on Bandstand in '59 and '60? What an amazing experience that must have been! I wasn't alive then (just turned 50), but I've always loved the rock music from the mid and late 1950's.

  • I loved this song, because I am a Suzi.....thought it was about me....lol

  • I REALLY ENJOY THIS SONG GREAT TALENT F0R SURE\ JDM

  • Great song...haven't heard it in years.......love it!

  • 59, I was 14 , this was an amazingly influential song for me and for rock and roll, my sister had the poodle dress and I remember going to the record store where you could pick a record and play it in the glass booth, we had the Natick drive in and the westboro speedway in Massachusetts, it was summer of 49 and rock and rolls best

  • @jcm78918 : Grew up in Cohasset, listening to Arnie Ginsberg, etal........my favorite was Dick Summer on WBZ.....and later, Peter Wolf on WBCN.........left the area in 1971 after stints at BCH and BC.....

  • @jcm78918 Good grief, you mean you actually knew someone who wore a poodle dress?, otherwise known by us who were teenagers then, as a 'poodle skirt', and it was a skirt, not a dress, but be that as it may, I could count on one hand those poodle skirts that were worn, and how it became a symbol of the '50's is beyond me. .......I was 18 at the time, and Rock n Roll most certainly was not around in '49.

  • @sugarfoot59 Cut him some slack. First he tyoed 59 and later 49. I'm assuming 49 was a typo. We all make typos from time to time.

  • I searched a long time for this one. Remember it when i was barely 13. Timeless

  • the first hit song i loved ages ago

  • I use to dance to this song. Thank you for posting it.

  • WOW, He is from Hawaii.

  • We have just revived this one with the band - after 45 years of leaving it on the shelf.

  • enigmatic LOL....and I write? But serious, Robin Luke was the best. It is one of my favorite songs of that period and too soon gets lost in the shuffle of songs. Thanks, John

  • And so the shots of American Bandstand are fantastic: My friend Bob Bradley and Marie MonteCarlo break to bop . Big Ro Beltrante bopping next to Arlene Sullivan and Harvey Robbins, Frani Giordano dancing with the egnimatic Gino who you will read about in my forthcoming book The Princes and Princesses of Dance....Lenny Natale, Peggy Leonard and et all...Thanks, John for this great song and tape.

  • This was one of my best loved oldies -- real nostalgic ... thanks so much for uploading-- am favoriting it.

  • It's good...but check out Barry Crocker's version MD'd by John Farrar, who was Olivia Nuclear-Bomb's (aka Olivia Newton-John) MD.....check out Farrar's "Music Makes My day"...a music genius with a really cool falsetto voice.....

  • Es una de mis canciones favoritas de siempre. Gracias.

  • wow

  • Just great old fun music,,great old song ..what a great memory,,,RWB

  • love the old american bandstand dance footage here. the couple at the 1:55 mark had a good step combination going. also notice the girls dancing with other girls. and all the white blouses with jumpers over them.

  • Has anyone noticed the several split second blips or interruptions in the music on youtube? I tried this song in three different browsers and they're all the same.

  • ahhhhh yes a long gone -by gem of a song. you can hear a buddy holly influence all over this song. sounds like one the everly bothers could have coverd well too. but robin luke made a classic.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 this is a classic, and Buddy Holly is one of the 5 most influential figures in rock and roll I'd say (Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan....along with a band from Liverpool who John Lennon derived the name of his band from Buddy Holly and the Crickets, the Beatles) I know, it's only rock and roll...but I LOVE IT !!!!

  • @ITILII That's a very interesting comment. I mostly agree with your top 5. I'm not sure I would include Dylan but not sure I wouldn't either. I have a hard time leaving Brian Wilson off the list. I wonder though if entertainers really had as much influence as the behind the scenes guys like Sam Phillips, Dick Clark, Berry Gordy, Alan Freed and Phil Spector. What do you think about that list?

  • @John1948ElevenA31Yes very influential men behind the scenes, but the ones out front are the ones who MADE rock and roll. Let's not forget what Elvis said, in his comeback special " rock and roll is mostly from the blues, with some country, soul and gospel mixed in" but what would the King of rock and roll know about its foundations. The great blues men laid the foundation for what became rock: Robert Johnson is the Grandfather of blues based rock and roll, and possibly greatest guitarist ever

  • Me and Susan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I never ceased to be amazed at how simple the instrumentation behind this song was, and how catchy it sounds even today. Tapping a pencil for drums never sounded so good! And the vocals just ooze Hawaii -- so smooth! Terrific!

  • John- this is just amazing; thanks a bunch!! Really dig Robin Luke..

  • @63striker It took me a while to find this one. I love it!

  • @John1948ElevenA31 Great find!!!! my wife and I just love 50s and 60s-

    Barry1944 :)

  • @63striker: '58 and '59 were particularly huge, in taking rock to the next level, especially the early rockabillly, as this is......see Larry Hall, G. Hamilton IV, and others.

  • @toddwindyhill Tks a lot; I'm embarrased that I can't recall Larry Hall, but will definitely check him out. GHIV I do love.

    take care-

  • @63striker: See " Sandy" and others of his on available CD's.

  • @toddwindyhill OK, I found it and it rocks!!

Gosh, I married a "Sandy" so shame on me. THis is a great tune by a fine artist.

  • Love this song. Thank you!
