I have never played that model, but I could play the duotone combo in my dorm room and apartment just fine. It sounded good at low volumes with the EL34s, later I put yellow jackets and EL84's in it so I could push the tubes a little harder at low volumes.
Ive been listening to a few of these higher end huges and kettner amps now and im really thinking i might just HAVE to save the extra cash as they sound very very impressive indeed. This video is noexception either, thats a very nice amp sir!
I really don't know how I got it to sound this good. I didn't have a mic pre, so I did some post EQs to smooth it out a bit. I placed the mic about a foot away from the speaker (but not dead center, more towards one of the sides).
Yeah, I have found that a bit strange too. Hopefully I will have time to record my Triamp MKII, Marshall 6100, and rerecord my JCM800 2205 later this May.
Hey man. Sounds good, nice playing. I'm thinking of buying a Hughes & Kettner amp. Either the Duotone or the TriAmp. I mostly play classic/hard rock type of stuff (Zep, Guns N' Roses, ACDC, Deep Purple etc) and high-gainy blues (Gary Moore). Would you say this amp is a good match to more vintage style high gain, or is it too modern sounding? And if you have an opinion, how would you compare the Duotone to HnK TriAmp, a Diezel Einstein or a Bogner Shiva. Thanx mate.
Tyelpenor, I've owned the Duotone and Einstein and have played around on a Triamp. Never touched a Shiva, though (would like to). Anyway, out of all of them I liked the Einstein best by far followed by the Duotone and then the Triamp.
I have heard these have great tone but I am more of an Iron Maiden, Judas Priest style player, and wanted to see if this was a pretty neutral setting or if you had scooped the mids/really jacked the gain.
Does it sound pretty classic with the power tubes cranked, low gain/preamp, and upped mids?
For some reason the duotone combo has a little less gain than the triamp MKII head's 3A channel. Anyways, here were my settings.
Gain - 1 o'clock
Treble & Mid - noon
Bass - 1 o'clock
Presence - noon
I live in a dorm room at the current time so I am unable to crank the amp to see how the poweramp distortion sounds, sorry. I do have yellow jackets, so I can try cranking it with EL84s but I don't know how loud I will beable to get it before I start receiving complaints.
Recently I have noticed that there is a rise in interest for H&K custom class amps in a certain demographic of guitar players. This demographic is aggressive rock guitar players. Since almost every demo I have listened to was not geared towards this demographic, I decided to fulfill this demand. Check out the H&K website for other soundclips if mine didn't satisfy what you were looking for.
yeah, I hadn't listened to the song in ages so I kind of forgot how it went so I just winged... Thanks for the compliments dudes. I would record my triamp or 2205 but all my recording equipment is up in NY, sorry.
Geez, I was just listening to some awful Engl death metal wanking... I can't tell how good this sounds after it (those riffs too :P). Might just have decided which one I buy
woo I thought I heard Thrice from 2:30
