wow. 7th time listening to this in a row. unbelievable. Bartoli...Berlioz...Hamlet.... its like an all star reunion of my favorite things...the perfect storm.... i thank you sincerely civileso, most beautiful..... yet, i am somewhat saddened that there are kids out there that just listen to gaga and bieber and will never know the bliss of listening to a piece like this. thanks again, this is superb, in every sense of the word. just........ bliss.
@thatonedrunk Don't be saddened; they wouldn't know this as bliss anyway. Besides, this state isn't particular to my generation. There has always been a base culture to counter the high, it has simply altered its form to suit today's paradigm - namely that art is a commodity. Not forever though. The internet is destroying the music industry as it is, so it will have to change. I recommend you watch this video that a dear friend of mine made: youtube .com/watch?v=tdTroslvvR4
Berlioz was the Ives of his day. Something almost intolerable but beguiling about his mehods - so immature so perfect so naive. Truly the French IVES like VArese. This man nad his guitar .He had a brilliant orchestral imagination. This songs seems formless! though its motifs are fetching. Rambling which all beginners and amateurs do. Who is this Berlioz. Jacques Barzun(another Frenchie!) has some very telling French essays on this master. I dont know what I just heard so well performed.
YES! The ensemble with that finessy and wonderful pianist is what it's ALL ABOUT. I hope to work with Chung someday. I mean....JUST SUBLIME. UTTERLY SUBLIME.
Wow. Bravo to the accpmnst. Bravo to Bartoli and BRAVO to Berlioz and to the man who adampted the prose!! Lastly BRAVO TO OUR W. SHAKESPERE!!! This piece has elated me.
This is the first time I've ever heard an aria with French libretto and actually liked it. Normally, I consider French to be a vile language. I much prefer Italian.
This one os going in my favorites right away. Thank you!
Honestly, after reading your comment I spent 15 minutes in a complete stupor. How, just how in the world, can you find French vile? It got me so worked up that I spent at least half an hour analyzing phonetics of French and Italian. Coming from a French-Italian family, I speak perfectly both of these languages and just can not see why would you ever state such a nonsense idea.
Please my dear friend, for the love of sanity, do not torture more minds with such senseless and absurd words.
One of my all-time favorite recordings, thank you for posting with the score

why vile?

It's not an aria - it's a French art song based on a poem.

I shall consider reconsidering my position, on account of your most diplomatic objection... and the fact that I like your screen name. ;)
