The republic did and will work where it was meant to be established, ie. here in the Americas. One piece of the puzzle is the 'We the People' who assisted in establishing the republic and it's Constitution 'for' the United States of America. Who are those people and what authority did they have to establish these things. this is what must be studied. N.B. -> continental congress => it meant peace btw all indigenous, aboriginal, and citizenry of the land.
the idea that a republic is the most stable form of government is a myth. rome, nazi germany, and even afghanistan were all republics that were unstable and faltered.
what keeps governments up is game theory my friend not ideals as noble as they sound. because all governments consolidate power at the top which in turn strips power away from those on the bottom. and that's all forms. the only difference is how the illusion of power is given to the citizens.
