  • cool video you have there! =)

  • DON'T pollute your water with this technology. Better use Hutchison battery, it produces free energy out of zero point field. Moreover it simple to make even at home.

  • Very nice instructional video, props to Mr. Smith. However, unless you just happen to have some stuff laying around to work with I don't recommend building a panel. The prices of professional panels has dropped enough that it doesn't really make sense. I got a 100 watt panel off Ebay for $200 that is fully sealed with aluminum frame, junction box etc (Ramson) I am going to build a small panel but that's only because I have some solar cells already laying around and don't want to waste them.

  • hi brother thank u so much for this video , i would like to ask u , how i can study and take course or diploma in green energy and specially in solar energy , do u know any institute or any place can give this kind of course ???

i will be thankful if u helped me

  • I wish this video sucked less. Too much intro, too much music, too much begging for subscribers/ratings, too many annoying annotations, I just want the f---ing information.

  • @unfathomablekitten

If you do not like his work, don't watch! You are too dumb to understand this anyway :)

  • Hello, I'd like to know(if I may) the estimate amount of money you spent on everything, from the building materials to anything else that could be covered as a cost. I'd like to know that so that I may gather up some money and then I'll start on building my own. :)

    Thanks in advance

  • @6WildThing6 Visit the website that is shown in the video and description. It tells you all that information on the homepage. Good luck.

  • robert dude... thanks man:)

  • THANK YOU! for the FREE information.

  • Homemade Solar panels, reduce energy usage click my name below.

  • Switchfoot!

  • thanks alot! maybe someday if i got my own house i will use your video to make some:)

  • Robert, do you have a video on sun tracking? Once I construct my solar cells I would like to find a way to attach servos and have them move with the sun. Thank you.

  • i hate those 15 people (-_-) Anyway, dude thanks ALOT for this video :) You are great student i guess :))

  • i appreciate this video, Im a middle school student in the science fair and this is going to help me alot

  • Always wanted to know how to do this?

  • Good morning, I am Spanish. That measures are 2x4 Pegboard in centimetres?

  • What was the total cost for you to make one panel? And about how much energy did it produce?

Is that UV protection paint sufficient to keep the wood from curving over time as it sits out in the sun all day?

  • Hi Robert, I'm just wondering if you can build the solar panel without the spacers, so that the solar cells are practically flush against one another?

Great effort in putting these videos together.

  • @RBurrows99 You do not want the solar cells touching each other, so you need to leave some space between each. You do not have to use tile spacers but you need to be sure some way they aren't touching.

  • @RobertSmith3 just wondering why cant they touch?

  • @RBurrows99

Spacers are there to allow the material to increase due to temperatures

I would prefer different material like plastic over ply-wood though

  • how much voltage does it provide?

  • love the videos great. can't wait to make one for Italy.

  • A square is a ruler? A straight edge is a ruler? Wow . . . This has you purchasing solar cells. If I am going to go to the trouble and expense of building a solar system one would need to learn how to construct a solar cell. I find this video quite unhelpful, I can build a frame without any instruction at all, who can't?

  • @TheSteveMedia Little girls like you need to move out of you mother's basement, puke. Then perhaps you should come try to make me die and we'll see who is left breathing, fag. And stupid people don't need to be building "stuff," moron.

  • I wonder where your animosity comes from.

  • @TheSteveMedia Anomosity? Perhaps comments by lame brained, irrelevant simpletons, such as yourself, exacerbates your perception of animosity: When in fact, it is simply a valid assumption!

  • @jampitts you're a christian aren't you...

  • @TheSteveMedia Exactly, this is why I have to state the truth. Perhaps you don't understand my big words, I'll break it down for you. Stating facts may make you unhappy. This is not called animosity.

  • @jampitts As much as I appreciate your condescension, I'm gonna stop wasting my time. You're not worth it.

  • @TheSteveMedia Why you . . . inappreciatve ^ @x*&@$%!

  • @TheSteveMedia People that think "awareness" is useful as a descriptive word need to be aware that awareness is only being aware of something, and not aware of all the knowledge you think you're aware of, but not aware.

AWARENESS MEANS NOTHING, UNLESS YOU ARE SELLING SILLY COLORED RIBBONS AS VANITY ITEMS TO UPPITY PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE BECAUSE THEY ARE WEARING A RIBBON AND THAT MEANS EVERYTHING. Wow, really? I had no idea breast cancer existed. AMAZING!

  • I install professional units and craft my own solar projects...seeing wood used to build these makes me cringe, especially compressed wood (paper) products.

ANYTHING will work, but building on a piece of supported tempered glass is less hassle and would look better when framed out in aluminum.

The MAIN things are; Get a DECENT charge controller, DONT use a car battery, make good connections, dont use wire or panels with snap. Ask the "AHJ" in your area if you are even allowed to install them.

  • AMAzing man. Thanks! You're offering confidence. You are the future!! Huge love from barcelona.

  • thank you and GOD bless you

  • how many watts did you get can you use it for the whole house? how much does everything cost?

  • how many watts did you get can you use it for the whole house?

  • Question, I'm not sure but the solar cells you purchased, where were they bought and what brand I'm looking for a good deal for about 24 cells

  • I like your videos but having trouble hearing you with the background music. Music is good but drowns you out to a degree

  • Robert, Have you considered what it would take to chain several 60w solar panels together? If you could do a video walk through or posting to your website describing how to chain multiple solar panels together, I would appreciate it. Thank-You.

  • Great job with this video series Robert! I'm looking forward to your next one!

  • Uhm, I'm still struggeling to find the download link for the full video on the website..... Please help

  • @netKnap6 There is no download link, but the video player on the homepage of the website will automatically take you to the next video in the series instead of having to find the next part of the video here on YouTube.

  • Robert You Have INSPIRED ME to make my own series. I show you how to make a aluminum solar panel from scratch. I made a series on How to Make a Solar Panel that will last for thirty years. CHECK MY CHANNEL OUT.

  • Where did you get the solar cells from.

  • I learn a lot of your nice job, but here in the phillipines , we have no to buy photovotaic cell, this kit, you know you can help a lot of pilipinos for being aware of your knowlege specially here , teach us to get rid of expensive energy, thank you

  • thanks a lot!!!!

    Great video

  • We hit it off so well after another visit busizz4me.info

  • Young brother take a minute to be proud of yourself as I am. You may not understand how important this information is to a lot of people worldwide. I will do this and teach someone how to do this as well. Thank you

  • when placing the spacers on the plywood, couldn't u just use a ruler to mark out everything then staple them? seems it would be faster. Just a thought.

  • @OurBleuTube If you are good with a ruler and have an L-ruler too. Chances of screwing up are higher when you take shortcuts. Sometimes they work, sometimes they end up costing you more time than if you had just done it the "longer" way. My 2 cents

  • Any way you could provide a quick list of all materials you purchase/use and a total cost? Would be great instead of watching all the way through then finding out the mats. Thanks

  • @futbolfever90 Visit the main website that's listed on every single video in the intro :) Hope you find what you need. Good luck!

  • i am all amped up abt starting this project. and with this great video set , gives me confidence to

    give it a try

    thanks

  • God bless you! Thank you for the detail and care you put into the videos! I'm actually building a few for use in Africa! Thank you again!

  • Lots of detail to your videos.... Thanks for sharing

  • Hi, Robert, Congratulations for the vídeos and I'd like to thank you for these so instructive informations. I'm very interested in this matter and in Brazil we don'r have many informations about it. W'ell be in touch. Best regards. Tavynho

  • Thank you very much

  • what video editing software did u use?

  • Hi Rob, this is slow but very detailed one. I saw all your clips and now i am writting this comment, yoour video is lot better than any other, even Dan Rojas.

  • Very impressive work ;)

  • Try Asian women **busizz4me.info**

  • Excellent !!!

  • Hey, Robert. Can you sum up the total hours needed to finish this solar panel of yours? need reply ASAP. ;)

  • imovie

  • You are awesome. Thank you for all your help.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Really nice video. Good work

  • awesome

  • You deserve some sort of an award...I would call it: Humanitarian Award, Video of the Year.

  • Hello i would like to ask a quick question i just bought 108 muli crystalline solar cells 3* 6 and all of your tutorials on how to build the panels use tabbing wire is there any way that just using copper wire soldered to the end of the cells would work ok. or if not can you tell me a store in which i can buy the tabbing wire and the bus wire and the flux pen that i can physically buy it not online or maybe a very well trusted online site to buy this stuff from. thanks for all the help

  • there is a tutorial on how to use coper sheeting as a solar cell on the web

  • Coming from a painter.. that treated ply is not going to hold any type of paint or stain very well. FYI.

  • Cool! This one actually teaches you how to do it rather than advertising for the lesson they sell.

  • Hey Robert or anyone that can help!

I'm having difficulty getting the proper voltage when i connect the solar cells i bought!

When i measure across 1 cell i get .35 volts; when i measure across my first set of 9 i only get 1 volt?? and about 3.5 amps across the 9 cells, i got short tabbed cells so i had to solder extra tabbing wire to get 1/4" spacing! i believe they are connected correctly because i'm getting volt & amp continuity 4m one end to the other but the math isn't added up! any ideas

  • This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! Great ob and thanks for doing this!

  • how would i add a solar panel or two to my laptop?

it gets frustrating when the battery's die

  • great vids... keep it up and keep us inspired.

  • I just wanted to tell you how much I LOVE you for sharing this valuable information to the world for free. I am grateful for this, for you. Thank you beyond measures..I hope many people will go out and make their own panels. Keep learning and sharing the knowledge..Much love

  • hi my name is ahsan and i m from pakistan ..i realy want to make a solar panal in a low budget in a pakistan electricity is a very big problem so kindly help me to solve it.

i dont now where i can buy the stuf or instrument which is using for makine panal kind send me the name of stuf which is using for making panal .and tell me the place or website where i can buy all the stuf which i need.

  • hi,i have not any idea about the solar panal. i live in pakistan and here electricity is a very big problem plz help how do i make my solar panal .and give any sutaible website where i can buy all the stuf or instrument which wil neeed to make solar panal and make electricity

  • Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I did some more research, and I guess I have to get a MPPT charge controller, as opposed to a PWM

  • Hey, when making a solar panel, is a diode necessary to prevent current flow in the opposite direction at night? Or will a charge controller take care of this? I am in the process of making my own solar panel and am wondering if I even need a diode if i'm using a charge controller. Thanks

  • @hotsexybrownguy Most charge controllers prevent the back flow of current and a blocking diode is not necessary. You would need to read the description/features of the charge controller to find out if it does perform that feature.

  • @hotsexybrownguy darn sure is!! I put them on all of mine. check out my channel

  • I can't believe I didn't see your series of videos earlier. I am going to watch every part, but I can already see that you did a fantastic job. I made a play-list from your videos called, How to build a solar panel by RobertSmith3, and I hope that many people will watch your videos. That is one awesome garden you got there, I could see you have a fish-pond, I am growing food with the help of my pond, it's easy and very efficient and low maintenance and called aquaponics, you should check it out.

  • Mr. Smith..this is exactly what I have been looking for and attempting to comprise myself. It is so nerve racking looking at site after site and video after video only to have to look for more info. Thank you for keepin it 100...and I will sureley spread the good word about your site and or endeavors. We live in the desert of Nevada and solar is our ticket to comfort in this stupid economy. Thank you again and anything that I can do to help promote..don't hesitate to let me know.

  • what is STAIN? im dominican, i havent seem hat. can someone explain me?

  • your videos are really good helpful and all that

  • with this solar panel, can i plug it directly into my house so that my electric bill is lowered?

  • Hello...I only wanted to ask if you couldn't upload somewhere the full video...i was on your site but i didn't found a link to dowload a complet video in one...i have a very slow internet so it's much easier for me to download it and then watch it...if you can please answer me...thanks (btw it's great to see that someone finally did something like this...)

  • @epaszty download "Jdownloader", so that u can download EVERY VIDEO AUTOMATICALLY. The program is FREE. It has ~30MB. And u can also download rapidshare and megaupload links automatically too!

    just GOOGLE JDOWNLOADER.

  • @yahyakun yes, I already have JDownloader and i think it's the only way to download this tut., but i wanted to avoid downloading from Youtube 'cause you have to donwload two files for one video this way and so it's a lot of downloading :)...but thank you for your response :)

  • Great job Robert,

  • @iowac

for those looking for cells, here is link on ebay (no this is not me, trying to help)

    cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140408136815

another site i found with list of parts that they used

    mdpub.com/SolarPanel/index.html

  • @iowac thxs! those solar cells are a lot for a nice prize!

  • By far, the most through and easy to understand tutorial on creating panels on youtube. I clicked a few of your google ads on your website so you get a few bucks for your work :).

  • Let's see... my AC compressor uses 5amps, the condenser fan motor uses 1.5 amps...

  • Let's see... my AC compressor uses 5amps, the condenser fan motor uses 1.5 amps...

  • Brill vid M8..U r a star

  • Great vid. Thanks for posting.

  • your videos are always great man keep up the good work!

  • wow u deffinatly made this video with a macintosh.

  • awesome i give you 10 stars

  • if i wanted to heat a whole house, which would be more dangerous; cans or solar cells? I know the cells would probably be heavier, which could cause roof damage. I am also wondering which method creates more heat?

  • the methane that gets out of your internal waste can blow up your house as well.

  • that was great dude

  • We are very interested in making solar panels, here's the question/ How do they hold up in hail storms, we have some hellacious ones here. Thanks!

  • maybe some kind of Plexiglas sheild?

  • you can take them to the basement before the storm, they don't have to be welded.

  • I think it would be a good Idea to make a video making the same panel only with aluminum and longer lasting material. Maybe even using parts of original vid for part comarison. Instead of plexiglass, what do you about using actual glass?

  • I need to know where you got your solar cells and for how much. Any useful info to get me started on these would be great.

  • Have you visited the website that's listed on the video?

Try that as most of the information is shown on the website.

  • I found out that my max usage of watts per day for my home this summer was 101 watts. With that in mind and the possibility that I need to make sure that I'm covered for a few more watts extra just in case, How many solar cells would I need for my total home solar makeover? and at what price?

  • Correction....My max power usage is 101,000 watts. (101 KW) per day.

  • Hi,

I actually just made a script on the website for this. If you go to the website and click on the Solar Tools link at the top, the second script is the one you want to use.

Also, at the beginning of this video is a link (red annotation) to the video I made on how to use it.

  • @JonDeeAnthony are you serious? is that actual usage or just an evaluation of all appliances you own? thats a lot of juice! you must live in an all electric house. daaaaayum! your bill must be off the charts.

  • @JonDeeAnthony That's an outragous amount of electricity, I use 300-400 KwH per month.

  • Robert, thank you!

  • brilliant

  • hey this is perfect thanks

  • Robert this is exactly what I was looking for. Your step by step instructions are easy to follow. I do have one question. Can the UV stain that I apply be a clear coat stain to give it a really nice appearance. Thank you very much

  • Hi randrboy,

As long as the solution (paint) is made to protect the wood it should be fine. I only used white because I wanted it to look similar to a regular solar panel.

  • Awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for! THANK YOU. Looking forward to viewing them all.

  • i would like to know how to make small solar panels out of flexible plastics material so that i can put it on jackets and bags.

  • Thank You so much brother! I subcribed!

  • THANK YOU

  • To get a good understanding of what Robert has created for all of us solar lovers, is to see all of his video's together at one time.

Robert, would you show us the next step in how to use this application in a real house.

    Love it!

  • I am a women, who has been very interested in everything Solar, I want very much to be able to apply what I have learned toward using that knowledge to reduce the cost of energy for my tenants,"even though my tenants pay for their own electricity". If I can provide cheap energy that will be able to keep them longer and possible happier. A win, win for both!

Please look into building a passive solar wall, while using solar cells for a fan, that could contribute to the dispersing of heat.

    WOW!

  • how many of these panels would it take to power lets say my whole house?!

  • Robert, I'd like to start of by thanking you so much for offering your time and effort to put these videos together. I am new to this knowledge and your videos have made it nothing but easier to gain this knowledge, keep doing what your doing and stay golden!

  • Robert, thanks so much for giving me a great background on building a solar panel.

I think this is going to be my next project.

    Thanks

  • You are the man!

  • Nice job Robert! Well done!

  • Hello Robert, after a couple months of the homemade panel(s), how is it going ? Anything you would have done different ? Anything new ? Thanks for the informative videos.

  • After a couple of months the panel is still working fine.

Of course there are many tweaks you can always add being that it is a DIY panel, but like I mentioned in my last video, I'd definitely want to try building it out of aluminum next time around. Mostly to just learn how to work with the material, but it will also last long in the long run as well, and less maintenance.

  • Hey there robert, will a 100w soldering iron due instead of a 60w for attaching the tabbing wire to the cells..?

  • Robert, thank you for making this video series, this was done very well!

  • very cool

  • A lot has been said about the longevity of home built solar panels.

I would like to know how is your panel holding up after a week or two?

  • It's holding up great. I also talked to others who have went the same route, and they said after a couple of months theirs was still performing well also.

  • Thank you for your reply Robert. I'm getting ready to make

two 125 watt panels in a bit different configuration than yours and using a different frame and junction block. I take my time so it will be a while before I post the video.

    Thanks again

  • GREAT VID!

  • Just the type of solar power diy I have been looking for a long time.

  • excellent well done:)

  • Great Vid!

  • so where do u get the solar panels from?

  • You can the cells from ebay cheap. There are plain cells and there are cell kits which include solder, flux, tab wire. Try to be in the $1 to $2 per watt range.

  • One of the BEST videos on youtube. You explain clearly and in detail. I subscribed!

  • 100 monocrystalline 2 watt solar cells 5" x 5"!

    $264.99 at checkout!

    $1.32/watt!

    Ends Sunday, June 21, 2009!

    Solar-Deals(.)com

  • Damn! I wish I read this before today. Nice price per watt.

  • great robert.solar really is the future...paul in the u.k.

  • Great job Robert, I have all my stuff coming in the mail. I needed this. one comment though. wish you would have spent more time on connecting the 3 rows together (the bus wires) - getting the pos/neg. maybe that's in video 5. anyway great job!

  • Thanks, and yeah, I have a while to go before this video series is finished. I didn't realise how long the video would turn out :) but we have a longggg way to go before the end.

  • Thank you, very well done. I have subscribed. Mike, London, On.

  • cool vid bro
