Definitely not the smallest, and Melbourne Florida is the home of some of the greatest yet craziest people I know Including myself. Out of towners are quick to judge like most..but round here you're just another tourist...
WOW...I'm going to spend Spring Break in Melbourne...It sounds like its a layed back area...Hopefully the Beach area will have some excitement....or at least the night life...but I'm thing positive.
Downtown Melbourne used to be pretty desolate in the 90's. It's improved tremendously since then but that's only saying so much (sorry sanantharamiah21. I've lived in Melbourne until very recently since the very early 80's). Melbourne and the beaches are places where nothing much changes and the weather is often depressing when it isn't unbearably hot. US192,US1 and Wickham characterize the main thoroughfares.
It's been a depressing, weird place for as long as I can remember but I have grown to love it for how depressing it is-- which is why beautification projects and the destruction of older buildings (like the old Palms 8 Theater on Babcock) are very annoying to me. Melbourne isn't for everyone. Its character should be preserved rather than "beautified". Improvements are fine until you get into re-zoning.
@sb57fury1 Yes, it certainly was although that was before my time. Palms 8 had an enormous parking lot that hinted at its drive-in roots. I believe Palms was a Cobb franchise. It was the only major theater in the area other than the Merritt Island AMC's until the Oaks 10 (now Premiere Theater 10) opened in 1986. There was also the Metro Twin but I don't ever remember it being a "first run" theater.
that video was boring as hell. i live in melbourne right now and it's the worse town in the whole usa. its soooo boring and theres practicly nothing to do!! dont ever come to melbourne!! i miss NYC! new york would put this video to shame!!
Amen to that! It seems a lot of Northeasterners, particularly from the NYC metro area, who move here to Melbourne, FL complain about the shortcomings of this harbor town. If you do not like it, what the hell are you doing here? If you move back to where you came from, I do not think the rest of us remaining here will miss you. This goes for anyone who habitually complains about Melbourne being a boring town!!
You are absolutely correct! Melbourne's downtown is growing with new businesses and activities springing up quite regularly. I still remember when there was hardly any place to go in downtown Melbourne when I first moved to this area over nine years ago. For its size, it provides an impressive atmosphere. I wish there were more public parking lots though.

one thing i can say as a neutral party.
it does seem that melbourne people are particularly racist. they even dislike sydney siders. where as sydney people hardly know they exist.

@KahnBB6 the metro twin is at the corner of Wicham and 192. You got food served to you during the movie. That is 1 thing I remember about it.

The quality of the video doesn't do Melbourne, FL justice. The downtown is much better in real life.
