@oldno74 If the last man-made temple was destroyed in 70AD it makes me wonder why another temple - that is not the millennial temple known as God - will be around for the end times as found in Daniel and Revelation. When Jesus came he did not come to abolish (i.e. do away with) any part of the Torah. In Revelation we read that in fact it is the anti-Christ who will do away with sacrifice. But obedience to God's Torah can still be found in Zechariah 14 during the millennial reign of Christ.

And you are correct obedience was required during the 1000 year reign for those not in Christ. And in the preterist view which I believe, the 1000 year reign of Christ was between 30 ad and 70 ad. After the temple was destroyed in 70 ad, that's when the law was done away with. Since then we are in the new. Hebrews explains that very well.

@oldno74 So how does 1000 years fit into 40 years? What basis is there to claim the Torah was abolished when Christ advocated it during his time on this earth and said that he came not to abolish it? Is it because the temple was destroyed and the Jews could no longer obey the Torah so it was effectively abolished? Because that's not entirely true, and the Torah was never abolished during the Babylonian exile. I've read Paul's works. I don't believe he's opposed to Torah.
@Cristcraeft The 1000 years I don't take literally, it's meant to be a period of time. It seems to fit perfectly with Biblical timing. The Exodus of God's people out of Egypt was 40 years. So it fits that the 1000 yr reign of Christ to bring His people out of that system of bondage (pharisees control) took 40 years as well. Then the Temple way of worship was destroyed and never to return. The Law and prophets was fulfilled, everything happened that was spoken of by the prophets and Christ.

@Cristcraeft I would go so far as to say the Bible never mentions a "single" anti-Christ figure like what many today are looking for. The Beast's in Revelation were nations, I believe Jerusalem and Rome. People have been looking for a "man of sin" for centuries now. So many failed predictions because it will never happen. The Temple was destroyed for a reason. Jesus said He came to fulfill ALL the prophets and law. The old is done away with, forever.
@oldno74 I agree that an antichrist figure may be a little over-hyped, but the language used of the beasts in Revelation 13:1-14 does not give me the impression of nations but of persons. I believe that at least a third temple will be built, and that the last temple will be God himself. In my humble opinion the Bible becomes more coherent when one bows the knee to obey what God has commanded in his Torah and in the way Jesus explained it. Fulfill also means to fill up I believe - not to replace.

I try my best to study and read in perspective of the readers in that day when it was written, not from a 21st century man. Nothing I can find supports a physical third temple. Jesus destroyed it for a reason. The new temple since the destruction in 70 ad is being built everyday in His people, with Jesus as the cornerstone who Jerusalem rejected. The temple is the body.

@oldno74 The problem is a preconception that Torah is directly linked with God's covenants. Some say the Torah is gone because the Old Covenant is gone, but that's not the case. Christ only expanded Torah. Is it that sacrifices atoned for our sins? And if so then why was Abraham declared righteous by faith in God instead of declared righteous by animal sacrifice? The truth is every Christian is in bondage to Christ, and it is said that Christ is Torah (i.e. the Word) come in the flesh. John 1:14
@Cristcraeft I can't agree that we are in "bondage" to Christ, that's not Biblical, we are free from sin in Christ. When in Christ God doesn't see us as a sinful person, He see's a son or daughter.
My whole point in this post is there is no need for another building for God. The Church Jew or Gentile is His dwelling now. He now puts His laws in their hearts, not written on tablets anymore. Love your God and your neighbor, the two most important commandments. All is fulfilled in Jesus.

Even in Old Testament time God dwelt inside men, and there was still a temple. I just don't see how anything has changed in that regard. If a temple wasn't needed then it was still constructed. That's just how God operated. Make of it what you will. I do believe there will be a third temple. Make of that what you will.

Yes the Holy Spirit came to men in the Old Test., but didn't it also leave men after a specific task was done? In the New Cov., it seems the Holy Spirit comes and dwells for good. Also, in the Old Cov., God never calls a person's body His Temple. But in the New Cov. we are told we are the Temple of God and He dwells in all nations now. No need for a building anymore.
@oldno74 I couldn't really tell you about the differences between the Holy Spirit anointing a person and dwelling in another. All I know is the Holy Spirit did dwell within people and so effectively they were God's temple as Paul said. I don't ever remember Christ calling us the temple of God, but regardless I can see the analogy. In the Millennial Reign of Christ it is written that God will be the temple in the New Jerusalem I believe. But before God is the temple there has to be a 3rd temple.
@Cristcraeft Christ never said it, but Paul did. "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?" 1Cor3:16 This didn't happen to the Israelites who He called His people.
@oldno74 The earthly temple and many such things were typological representations of spiritual truths. The truths never replaced the earthly types since many existed at the same time. For example, circumcision was a type, but even when that circumcision existed we can still see the concept of circumcising one's heart in the OT. The earthly sacrifices did not 'placehold' the sacrifice of Christ and so the sacrifice of Christ had no need then to replace the earthly sacrifices.

We are now in the New Heavens and Earth-God dwelling with His people. There will never be a God ordained temple. If it gets built it will be an abomination to God and it won't fulfill any prophecy.
@oldno74 Don't confuse the spiritual with the physical. Read Leviticus 15:30-31. If you can make heads or tails of it then you probably understand the earthly sacrificial system and its differences from the heavenly sacrifice of Christ. Also check out Daniel 9:26-27, paying atttention to the words "sanctuary" and "temple".
@Cristcraeft Jesus said something greater than the temple was in their midst. Jesus said the temple would be destroyed. Why did Jesus have the temple destroyed? Because He was bringing in the new way of worship. Remember the lady at the well? "neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father" and "when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him." Gone with the old in with the new, forever.
@oldno74 Could very well be a new temple for worshiping God that's not a man-made temple. Take for instance Revelation 21:22. However, such a temple doesn't currently exist in any sense of the word 'temple'. And I think Jesus' point to the woman was that she was emphasizing location when she should have been emphasizing worship. I believe we'll be worshiping God in New Jerusalem - not necessarily old Jerusalem. So Christ's statement may've not been a generalization but a very specific reality.
@oldno74 His statement could be specific reality in the sense that all old things will pass away and even after the New Jerusalem we'll still be worshiping God - only elsewhere on another planet and in another cosmos as is implied by a new heavens and a new earth. What really matters is not the old Jerusalem but our relationship with God. I get that. That's why I'm so adamant in my stance on his Torah - because it's neither been abolished nor replaced as of yet.
@Cristcraeft The preterist view is that we worship in spirit in the New Jerusalem when we are regenerated. Satan is defeated and thrown into the lake of fire. We are in the new heavens and earth in my view. God is dwelling with all nations now, the people are His temple, and yes there is still evil in this world. Remember Jesus said His Kingdom is not of this world. We worship in spirit here and when we die we are immediately in our new body in front of Christ (2 Cor 5:1-2)! Amen!
@Cristcraeft Daniel 9:24 proves my point that I have been trying to make. “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal BOTH VISION AND PROPHET, and to anoint a most holy place." Those 70 weeks were fulfilled at the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. All prophecy is done.
@oldno74 I'm sure you know this but I thought it was interesting that the word for 'week' doesn't necessarily mean week but literally means 'seven' and is most often used of week. In the Daniel prophecy I believe it's used of groups of seven years. The groups of sevens are broken down into categories it seems - the 62 sevens, the 7 sevens, and the last seven which I don't believe has come to pass yet. So how were all of the things spoken of in Daniel 9:24 fulfilled in your opinion?

@oldno74 That's a very valid concern, but in the same turn it begs the question, "Why were there groupings of seven? Or even why were there groupings of 62 sevens, 7 sevens and 1 seven?" There is room to argue that there is a break between the 69 sevens and the last seven - even more reason than the simple fact that they're grouped separately. Otherwise I would tend to agree with you. At any rate I think I'll leave it at that. You can read it for yourself and research it. =)

@oldno74 Rev 17:11 says the beast is a king. Its heads represent individuals through time who are represented present in one time with one body - the beast's body - even though many of the heads are individuals who've come and gone. Maybe they all use one body to show they all filled the shoes of a king once upon a time. Jesus isn't the same ruler in Dan 9:27. Jesus ascended to Heaven. He didn't hang back to confirm a covenant, end sacrifice, or to put up the abomination (i.e. idol) in Dan 9:27.
@oldno74 I feel that a better interpretation of God's Torah in our lives today can be seen in Jesus' command to observe the Last Supper (i.e. Passover) in remembrance of him after he had come instead of observing it in order to look forward to his coming. I believe the Torah continues to have value for us today. I don't believe it to be damning to want to obey God. When understood and obeyed in the proper way it does not subtract from one's relationship to God but keeps one mindful of God daily

The Jews will try to make a harbour of sanctity by restoring the sacrificial system in the Temple in Jerusalem. The Evil One will intrude after 3 and 1/2 & end that.

I believe that it will be constructed out of a genuine zeal for God but that it will eventually be used for evil and that a blasphemous person will be set up in it and stop the sacrifices while at the same time declaring themselves to be God. I think before that happens I would like to see it with my own eyes though.

@Platewarp I think the third temple will be built for God but that an antichrist will set himself up in it as God and will stop the sacrifices and make people worship him. So I think a lot of people who buy into God stopping the sacrificial system because it's now somehow wrong because of Christ's work may just believe that this antichrist figure is Christ himself and will receive his mark just as it is told us that God will have a mark, himself, but only later on after the mark of the beast.

@oldno74 If the last man-made temple was destroyed in 70AD it makes me wonder why another temple - that is not the millennial temple known as God - will be around for the end times as found in Daniel and Revelation. When Jesus came he did not come to abolish (i.e. do away with) any part of the Torah. In Revelation we read that in fact it is the anti-Christ who will do away with sacrifice. But obedience to God's Torah can still be found in Zechariah 14 during the millennial reign of Christ.

Because that's not entirely true, and the Torah was never abolished during the Babylonian exile. I've read Paul's works. I don't believe he's opposed to Torah.

@Cristcraeft The 1000 years I don't take literally, it's meant to be a period of time. It seems to fit perfectly with Biblical timing. The Exodus of God's people out of Egypt was 40 years. So it fits that the 1000 yr reign of Christ to bring His people out of that system of bondage (pharisees control) took 40 years as well. Then the Temple way of worship was destroyed and never to return. The Law and prophets was fulfilled, everything happened that was spoken of by the prophets and Christ.

@oldno74 I agree that an antichrist figure may be a little over-hyped, but the language used of the beasts in Revelation 13:1-14 does not give me the impression of nations but of persons. I believe that at least a third temple will be built, and that the last temple will be God himself. In my humble opinion the Bible becomes more coherent when one bows the knee to obey what God has commanded in his Torah and in the way Jesus explained it. Fulfill also means to fill up I believe - not to replace.

Christ only expanded Torah. Is it that sacrifices atoned for our sins? And if so then why was Abraham declared righteous by faith in God instead of declared righteous by animal sacrifice? All I know is the Holy Spirit did dwell within people and so effectively they were God's temple as Paul said. I don't ever remember Christ calling us the temple of God, but regardless I can see the analogy. In the Millennial Reign of Christ it is written that God will be the temple in the New Jerusalem I believe. But before God is the temple there has to be a 3rd temple.

@oldno74 The earthly temple and many such things were typological representations of spiritual truths. The truths never replaced the earthly types since many existed at the same time. For example, circumcision was a type, but even when that circumcision existed we can still see the concept of circumcising one's heart in the OT. The earthly sacrifices did not 'placehold' the sacrifice of Christ and so the sacrifice of Christ had no need then to replace the earthly sacrifices.

@oldno74 Don't confuse the spiritual with the physical. Read Leviticus 15:30-31. If you can make heads or tails of it then you probably understand the earthly sacrificial system and its differences from the heavenly sacrifice of Christ. Also check out Daniel 9:26-27, paying atttention to the words "sanctuary" and "temple".

Because He was bringing in the new way of worship. Remember the lady at the well? "neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father" and "when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him." Gone with the old in with the new, forever.

@oldno74 Could very well be a new temple for worshiping God that's not a man-made temple. Take for instance Revelation 21:22. However, such a temple doesn't currently exist in any sense of the word 'temple'. And I think Jesus' point to the woman was that she was emphasizing location when she should have been emphasizing worship. I believe we'll be worshiping God in New Jerusalem - not necessarily old Jerusalem. So Christ's statement may've not been a generalization but a very specific reality.

@oldno74 His statement could be specific reality in the sense that all old things will pass away and even after the New Jerusalem we'll still be worshiping God - only elsewhere on another planet and in another cosmos as is implied by a new heavens and a new earth. What really matters is not the old Jerusalem but our relationship with God. I get that. That's why I'm so adamant in my stance on his Torah - because it's neither been abolished nor replaced as of yet.

We are in the new heavens and earth in my view. God is dwelling with all nations now, the people are His temple, and yes there is still evil in this world. @Cristcraeft Daniel 9:24 proves my point that I have been trying to make. “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal BOTH VISION AND PROPHET, and to anoint a most holy place." Those 70 weeks were fulfilled at the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. All prophecy is done.

@oldno74 I'm sure you know this but I thought it was interesting that the word for 'week' doesn't necessarily mean week but literally means 'seven' and is most often used of week. In the Daniel prophecy I believe it's used of groups of seven years. The groups of sevens are broken down into categories it seems - the 62 sevens, the 7 sevens, and the last seven which I don't believe has come to pass yet. So how were all of the things spoken of in Daniel 9:24 fulfilled in your opinion?

@oldno74 That's a very valid concern, but in the same turn it begs the question, "Why were there groupings of seven? Or even why were there groupings of 62 sevens, 7 sevens and 1 seven?" There is room to argue that there is a break between the 69 sevens and the last seven - even more reason than the simple fact that they're grouped separately. Otherwise I would tend to agree with you. At any rate I think I'll leave it at that. You can read it for yourself and research it. =)

Its heads represent individuals through time who are represented present in one time with one body - the beast's body - even though many of the heads are individuals who've come and gone. Maybe they all use one body to show they all filled the shoes of a king once upon a time. Jesus isn't the same ruler in Dan 9:27. Jesus ascended to Heaven. He didn't hang back to confirm a covenant, end sacrifice, or to put up the abomination (i.e. idol) in Dan 9:27.

@oldno74 I feel that a better interpretation of God's Torah in our lives today can be seen in Jesus' command to observe the Last Supper (i.e. Passover) in remembrance of him after he had come instead of observing it in order to look forward to his coming. I believe the Torah continues to have value for us today. I don't believe it to be damning to want to obey God. When understood and obeyed in the proper way it does not subtract from one's relationship to God but keeps one mindful of God daily

I believe that it will be constructed out of a genuine zeal for God but that it will eventually be used for evil and that a blasphemous person will be set up in it and stop the sacrifices while at the same time declaring themselves to be God. I think before that happens I would like to see it with my own eyes though.

So I think a lot of people who buy into God stopping the sacrificial system because it's now somehow wrong because of Christ's work may just believe that this antichrist figure is Christ himself and will receive his mark just as it is told us that God will have a mark, himself, but only later on after the mark of the beast.

Who does Christ destroy in Revelation, all the countries are Isalmic, plus those who stood against Israel, and America is now joining that group. AC is called "Assyrian" on Isaiah 10:5, Micah 5 in the same way that Jesus was prophesied 2B called NAZARENE. Was Jesus Nazarene? Islamic never burned the temple because ROMANS under Titus (later became Emperor) seized it Titus didn't wanted 2 do that but his soldiers did it (Satan was behind) allowed by GOD The diaspora cont. 4 2000 yrs because each day that Jesus spent in soil =1000 yrs (per Oseas+II Peter) Koran, New Testament, Dead Sea Scrolls, Septuagint, Hebrew Masoretic Old Testament =all of them describe the Antichrist. Even some Buddhist talk about such thing in their own version

@endtimetuber Ever heard of black and white? Contrast? That the white is the whitest when compared to the black which is the blackest when compared to the white? So if we had a "white" figure.. lets call him "Christ" for simplicity's sake. What would be the logical other pole so we can make him seam a better guy? hmmm... anti... christ?
