Whales are slow growing and don't reach reproductive maturity until as old as 10 years or more. Domesticated meat animals reach reproductive maturity within a year or two.

Commercial deep water whale hunting is more ridiculous. Expensive equipment and many workers are needed. It is very expensive to hunt whales, thus the hunters must kill many whales to make a profit. It is NOT sustainable. It was barely sustainable 100 years ago, when labor and ships were cheaper, but certainly not now.

No whales are "abundant", least of all humpback(座頭鯨) and fin(長須鯨) whales, but those are being hunted by the Japanese. Chickens/cows/pigs are not only abundant, they are raised on farms. Wild chickens/pigs/cows are not hunted commercially. That would be as stupid as commercial hunting of wild whales.
