Perhaps had you commanded Lydia to follow you she wouldn't stay and fight the enemy like she was programmed to do. I'm sure you could've taken it on with your horse, Lydia, a Flame Conjure and your Flame spell...

I have warrior, mage, and thief abilities about equal (though I'm focusing on mage right now), and it was kind of difficult to take it down even with a beefed-up Lydia and adept level Destruction magic. I don't think he would have survived. As all good Skyrimmers say, don't piss off the giants.

I haven't played the game and I don't know much about but, do you even have to fight? Looks like between the companion you have there and the fact that you can pause in the middle of a fight and change weapons and spells, it make the game rather easy. Just going by what I see in this video, sorry if I got it all wrong, I am just trying to understand the mechanic of the game (I am planning on buying it this week).

I sat here saying to myself "Come on! Dont just stand there, join the fight", but nothing happened. He doesnt even use the shout often. It can actually be very useful. It could have given an opening for Lydia to attack.

Fast travelling to Giant camps is generally not a good idea.

Rydar also missed a side quest and radiant quest while talking to Uraag. Make sure to get those if you're interested in doing all that. You have to ask him if there is any college business you can help with and if he's looking for any special books.

And you only need 3-4 perk points to make decent enchantments, but if you're only using it for the purposes of selling items, perks aren't necessary and as your levels in enchanting go up, your ability to enchant will become easier.

A note for anyone just getting into this or a magic user character: carry a pick axe. There's ore all over the place (he even missed some at the Western Watchtower). You can take that iron ore and some pelts off of any animals you kill and convert it into materials to make iron daggers to sell. With the alteration spell Transmute you can also turn the iron ore into gold ore and convert it into rings. Those items can also be enchanted to make their value higher. It's a good money engine and free.
