ATTENTION Led-Zeppelin Fans! Please HEAR ME OUT. I'm in a Rock band. Were just trying to bring great music like this back into the world. we work as hard as we can. and we CAN NOT catch a break.
Help us make Rock 'n' Roll the #1 again. Please take a small piece of your time to check out our song Louisiana:Mississippi. Let us know what you think. if you like it, tell your friends about it. Good and Bad Comments are very welcome.
Thomas Richmond here, great song of course from there 3rd Lp 1970. Could of nixt the allister crowley pic, but Jimmy did buy that castle of his. For sound accustics only.
Very nice tribute! I'm a "Bonham" man myself but you can't have one without the others! Love this band! Love this song! Love where their music takes me!
This music will forever be! You guys (and I'm referring to folks of "my parents generation") really did have the best music! *pouts in jealousy*
RIP Bonzo! I know right now you're having a hell of a drum off with Mitch and drinking a cold one with Keith!!
Look up the lyrics too... Not too many decades back, people were hung all the time. You probably know that. The "gallows" the whole assemblage, the platform and all, that one is "hung from until dead."
Hello! Thanks for this video!
Jimmy Page is probably my favorite guitarist of all time, same with Brian May, but I put May quite a bit down the list as far as technicality goes. Page is a bit below Stevie Ray Vaughn and Slowhand, who in my opinion are tied for #1 in terms of technicality/musicality.
You think Clapton is *technically* superior to Hendrix and Page? Sorry friend, I love clapton and I don't mean to be brusque with you, but this is patently absurd, and I would bet all four of my limbs, my left eye, and my penis that Clapton himself would readily agree.
In fact, as regards Hendrix, he's said as much more than once.
Those you debating the origins of the song, it is based on "Childe Ballad 95", a several-hundred-year-old traditional european song that has numerous versions found in a number of countries, including England, Germany and parts of Scandanavia. The Zep version is based on a version that made it to America, probably sung by Appalachian settlers and slaves in the American South, and eventually recorded by Folk artist Lead Belly in the 30s.
I love Zeppelin, but I don't think they're the best. They may very well be the most creative band, that doesn't automatically make them the best. This is just my opinion, so don't freak out. They're defenitely in the Top 10, but they just aren't my favourite.
i love Robert Plant is hot my favouirte singer in all times and all kind of music. Plant and wanted. your mouse, hair of gold, body all in you are sexy , but the best you voice and the way you sing so heart, you are my platonic love, my angel
.... this song of all songs was prolly the worst place to say that.. can you tell me how many differnt tempos john kept throughout this song ? its ok , he didnt count you in his life to , im sure of that....
In the course of this debate, it should be taken into consideration that the music of the British Isles had a marked influence upon both bluegrass and country, with the movement of Britons, Irish and their descendants into the southeastern and western United States.
Some country/western artists may have covered it through the years. That doesn't make it strictly speaking a "country/western" song, just as Whitney Houston covering Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You doesn't make it a pop song. I guess you could say according to the ARRANGEMENT a song is pop, or rock, or country, or traditional. But songs themselves usually defy categories. Particularly if a song is traditional (like this one) it is wide open to the artists' own interpretation.
"Gallows Poll" as a song is an OLD English folk tune, from the 1800s at least. Some American country/western performers have done it over the years too, as has Bob Dylan. the song is supposed to tell the story of a man trying to get out of being hung (the punishment for many offenses way back when) by bribing the hangman. Great song!
Responding to a Led Zeppelin video with politics? I should have died in a plane crash back in 1972. I shouldn't be alive to see this. On second thought, maybe you people should be shot.
dude. obama kicks ass. so im guesssing ur just a racist basterd. i may be wrong. so tell me other wise. oh and if i am, STFU AND GO TO HELL. hilary is OK but to be honest i dont think shes material. look she entirely ignored the fact that her husband had an affair. would she do the same with problems that are slowly increasing. or the ones she doesn't know how to handle?
The Obama comment is stupid and racist but just because someone does not like him does not mean they are racist. I think his political ideology is weak because basicaly he has no plan or purpose he just promises "change," whatever that is supposed to mean.
Beautiful pics of a beautiful man. I especially love the older, mature photos. No one thought this guy would ever live past 25...who'd 'a thunk it, right? That's what makes it all the more poignant, and beautiful. Page has aged like fine wine. Thanks for a lovely video!
you must be crazy if you can listen to this without your neck hurting from slamming so much...
jpj starts it, Bonzo is so powerful, Plant is so energetic and Page's gutiar is so crazy nad upbeat its just unbelievable and unmatched by anyone else ever
Sometimes you must appreciate whats in front of you. regardless of its origin, blessed be that it came to us, and it is still one of the best tunes ever put out.
Led Zeppelin did steal this song from LeadBelly. The song is about a black man pleading not to be hung. A gallow is a device used to hang people. LeadBelly is from the south where sadly many black people were lynched. Hence, Keep from the Gallows Pole.
Led Zep is great and I don't mind them covering an old blues song they liked but it is disgusting how they claim to wrote this song as well as many others. What would 4 guys from england know about lynching.
Black Betty, Ram Jam's reprise is Leadbellys too, but personally I dont like LB's version of either songs to this. I love blues, but his is just something i can has not want.
This song has been around a long time before Lead Belly ever sang it. It's one of many versions of "The Maid Freed From the Gallows" from the "English and Scottish Ballads" collected by Francis James Child. Led Zeppelin are no more guilty of stealing songs than Lead Belly was. It's just part of the folk process.
What are you talking about? On the album, they labeled the song as "Traditional". They never claimed to write it. Just to arrange it. Which they actually did.
i do admit that he is a good musican but at the same time how can you tribute him with a song he stole from THE GREAT HUDDIE WILLIAM LEDBETTER a.k.a. LEADBELLY just wondering and not trying to take anything from Jimmy
This song shows exactly why John Bonham was irreplaceable. It's very hard to notice the subtle time shift that happens right in the middle of the song. Not only that, but everyone is at their prime in this song.
im really mad it said 666 on the disciple of alester crowley thing sure he was supposedly really fond of alester crowley but not because he was a devil worshipper, jimmy picked up one of his books and thought he was a great philosipher, he is NOT a disciple so to speak of alester crowley he is just a fan
They studied alot of different beliefs and incorporated them into their music like no other band. Jimmy does'nt seem like the type to worship anything below himself.

Thanks for filling my Gallows Pole fix.
I couldn't find my copy of III and I was going insane until I found this video.
Thanks a lot.
I'm pretty sure my III is in the car, I'm just being lazy, it's cold out.
