we did this poem in class a few weeks ago and when we heard stanley say it we were laughing our heads off at the way he talks and how nonchalant albert's parents were about him being eaten
Brilliant... my Dad did too. He was 75 in January, but unfortunately now has Alzheimer's. I was always amazed at how he knew this word for word. Now I feel like I'd like to be able to recite it word for word, accent in place, too...

The new Wetherspoons Pub in Blackpool is called "The Albert and The Lion". It's next to the Tower and and is appropriately in an old Woolworths building.
@tobey222 Thanks for this bit of info, i love to tell kids this . A social worker type i said this to threw up his hands in horror and said i was probably responsible for traumatising children [-- sad very sad and true. Wishedthe lion had eaten him lol
We used to play this as kids in the early 60s on an old wind-up gramophone. This is the first time I've heard it with out crackles! Thanks for posting it.
Our local Primary School did this yesterday as part of their Xmas Show. They did a briliant job but needed to find it on the net again to bring back memories of my childhood. Got it on a 78 rpm somewhere.
Oh i`m so glad you put this on. I`ve been telling people about it for years and I LOVE IT !!!. I laugh as i used to as a kid when i heard it then. Brilliant verse, love the sense of humour. GREAT !!!!! Thanks

This was a great favourite of my grandma's. I have fond memories of listening to an old Stanley Holloway LP whenever I went round to her house!

I remember this on Tony Blackburn's Family Favourites' on Sunday mornings in the 1970's, great dry comedy, no swearing or crudity.

Brilliant! Better than modern comedy. Forgive my own performance! ;-)

I grew up with these monologues and the pleasure in hearing them again here in Thailand where I have lived for some 18 years is indeed wonderful.
Many thanks for your posting of them.
