  • This was a great favourite of my grandma's. I have fond memories of listening to an old Stanley Holloway LP whenever I went round to her house!

  • ... you could see that the Lion didn't like it........., classic!

  • Thanks for sharing, my 72 year old Dad still recites this on request!

  • @raineyatt

Brilliant... my Dad did too. He was 75 in January, but unfortunately now has Alzheimer's. I was always amazed at how he knew this word for word. Now I feel like I'd like to be able to recite it word for word, accent in place, too...

Wishing your Dad all the best

  • A family favourite, a real Boxing Day treat!

  • Thanks so much for putting this up - it was one of my mother's party pieces. I love it!

  • My Grandparents played this to me as a kid .

  • I remember this on Tony Blackburn's Family Favourites' on Sunday mornings in the 1970's, great dry comedy, no swearing or crudity.

  • Brilliant! Better than modern comedy. Forgive my own performance! ;-)

  • The new Wetherspoons Pub in Blackpool is called "The Albert and The Lion". It's next to the Tower and and is appropriately in an old Woolworths building.

  • @tobey222 Thanks for this bit of info, i love to tell kids this . A social worker type i said this to threw up his hands in horror and said i was probably responsible for traumatising children [-- sad very sad and true. Wishedthe lion had eaten him lol
