@underground141 hey there, how r ya ? its karll ! i saw on the kick jutsu site that your father is being intronised in the martial arts hall of fame in toronto i think in mai ? are you going ? may be u could connect to my facebook ? its karll gilbert (ive a black tuque on in the picture) anyway ill be glad to hear from you, take care
This was 1973 Tournament in Tokyo between Evans ( USA ) and Fadi Boulos ( Lebanon ) the first part and Evans vs Patrick Achcar ( Lebanon ) the second part.the rest of the Lebanese Team are : Charles Saydé , Georges Yerikian , Amir Raad , Saad Chaccour ,and Nelly Tannous. It was a great experience for us to compete in Japan thanks to our Senseis Hideki Okamoto and Hiroshige Nakayama and our sponsor and Big friend Migel Abou Zeid .
My father fought during theses tournaments in the 70's not quite sure wich one exactly , i'm looking for old footage of him .. don't know if you ever heard of him , Raynald Campbell , karate shotokan , he's Canadian ..
Yes, Lobonegro I am 52 yers old.I credit Karate and weight training for keeping my body weight exactly as the day I graduated college. I was also present when Gerald fought the all Japan champion,Tanaka to a draw at Temple University in 1976.
Wow impressive my only wish is to be able to continue practicing to the day I die, although the bones and muscles don't seem to work as well as when I was 18...LOL
Gerald Evans was my instructor in college from 1973-1977.Believe me Northernwatched you would not hve been bored.Remember one time during practice my hair got in my eyes,I reachd up to wipe it away and all I saw was a blur.A roundhouse kick hit me in the ribs. The next day I got a hair cut.
Or fencing to the rest of the world for that matter.By the way a lot of the modern shiai kumite comes from the fencing patterns and postures...Just thought I add that, I know you didn't ask me...sorry for buging in.
nice fight, looks like the guy on the Shushin right is the winner,(AKA). It looks like he go a Wazari for his front kick and if i'm not mistaken i think that was the only point given. Many of shiro's attacks were given torimasen.
well its not about who can stand more damage wins (kyokushin) but its about performing clean and strong techniques and earn points for that. in such a system, experts tend to look boring for the audience.
On this level it is sure that if they would indeed hit each other, in the face, they would knock each other out. No need to do that, thats why they have 5 judges to decide wether it would be a knock out or not.
OMFG you must be a zuper maister at 25 yrs old and you consider this fight boring.Given that the video quality is terrible and you can hardly see what's going on,but you must be real good to make such a boastful comment...WOW I am truly impress with coming across such an internet master as yourself.wonder were one could seek your instrution, must be a once in a lifetime oportunity to train with one such as you!
I made that comment a year ago, Get a life. Peoples perspectives change in a year, And I Never said I was better than these guys, I said "yawn" cause there wasn't much fighting going on. I train in Kyokushin witch has It's routs from Shotokan. Only differnece is this seems more like Points fighting. When I fight in the Kumite's they are constantly hitting you and they don't stop until somebody goes down or can't fight anymore, To each their own.
This is a tie-breaking match between 2 expert technicians. Both men know that whoever lands the next //perfect// technique (not some tag-sport-karate combo) is the winner. Very exciting to anyone who understands this.
first of all you got to understand the roots and phylosophy of Karate, not all martial arts are punching and kicking like crazy. This is an art you gotta know that if you do not get it then u got a problem, even people like you deserve some respect.
Good statement,I agree must people think karate is just kickboxing with funny clothes on.If in tournaments all types of blows and strikes were allowed maybe there would be a different opinion, but then again the risk of fatal injury would be to great and possible death also

No there is no points involved here. It is Ippon.
On this level it is sure that if they would indeed hit each other, in the face, they would knock each other out. No need to do that, thats why they have 5 judges to decide wether it would be a knock out or not.

Often do I wish kumite were like this today. Then I wouldn't be quite so terrible at it. ;) Kata has always been my forte.
