Yeah top comments are correct, applying simple knowledge here, a star is round, the explosion would send a massive shock wave outwardly in all directions 360 degrees, if someone knows better feel free to leave an explanation of why and how. Also have to mention I believe if you detonated a nuclear device in midair you would also see a round shock wave as well instead of an outward flat effect because it has dug into the ground a ways... >.<
@fir3share78 This effect was first used in the 1994 movie Stargate. But what subsequent ripoffs (Star Trek 6, every Star Wars, this...) failed to take into account is that when the spaceship exploded it was directly above the planet, and thus created a ring when part of the explosion rebounded off the planets atmosphere. No such ring would be created in deep space. Although some phenomenon such as blackholes do create jets of material shooting from each pole, when feeding.
@Inclousid This is light trying to escape the eternal vacuum of a black hole isn't it? Records show that light cannot escape from black holes. And yes media certainly influences a lot of false physics theories.
@fir3share78 Interestingly enough, only a small percetage of matter actually gets sucked into a black hole. Because of the gravitational eddies, most of the matter is shot back out into space. So, yes light and matter can escape if they never entered in the first place. :)
I fill up the world in own in self, I can crush and smash all traumas by doing so it, I can take in all other person. Self moves to own center nuclear. Self is transplanted by me to central nucleus. I am my own whole total all history self.
Self becomes own central nucleus core for play with the world alone and to move the world; is absolute necessary to be so. I fill up the history and return time, and to rescue own self father and save Japan in the world. If I have something, take out all right now.
Whats fucking awesome is that if the supernova happens billions of light years away.... it takes light billions of years to reach us. Now picture the distance...
1 light year = 6,000,000,000,000 miles. You want to tell me there is no other life out there, billions of light years away!!??! We dont have the slightest fucking idea what is out there. How DARE we say there isnt... I think its statistically impossible...
The outer stars in a galaxy move awt the same rate around the galactic core as do the inner stars. This goes against the physics of the other systems such as the solar system where angular momentum and gravity have to be equal to prevent planets flying off of or colliding with the sun. In galaxys however, the mass contribution by dark matter accounts for the observations and means outer stars can orbit at a quick rate because of the gravity of the dark matter :)
@KafshakTashtak the direction of the ring depends on the way the star spins. it was spinning horizontally relative to our position. really its just bad editing.
@KafshakTashtak even worst why is it not a sphere ? there's no 3D in this dimension ??? Doesn't it explode in ALL directions ? Then how come the stupid ships in all movies/series don't just stand in the poles of those stars they would be safe lol
@KafshakTashtak Horizontal because of the way the picture is taken and easier to understand for the human brain and ring also because it's easier to understand it. I am not sure if it has a deeper meaning with the ring, but if you look at planets like Saturn it has a ring around also called astroidebelt. Not sure if it has something to do with it... but a shockwave does come in a ring form when something explodes... look at the water when you drop a stone in it and usually big explosions (Abomb)
@Redtir What do you mean "Because of the way picture is taken, Even looking at Saturn, you'll see the ring being inclined. About planets like Saturn or even our solar system, I think after billions of years, when they were forming, they started to spin around sun ( Saturn) and their gravitational pull formed them into concentric orbits.
@Redtir The water example does not apply, because the water has a 2d surface, and the waves can only expand in 2D. but if you look at explosions in atmosphere ( like fireworks) you see them exploding in every direction. It should be the same about super nova, because there's no factor to make them go into a ring form.
@KafshakTashtak The only reason is because it's easier to visualize how the wave would travel if a ring were to be used as opposed to a cloud. The particles would only collect into a ring if they stuck around long enough for centripetal forces to pull them into a ring similar to how planets' orbits are arranged in lateral rings.
@KafshakTashtak possibly the fact that such a star would bulge at the equator, producing more matter at those points and possible forcing more of the matter out along the equator line.
@KafshakTashtak there is not such a thing as horizontal or vertical in the universe..they arnt rings ..this is just a simulacion.. they are big waves in all directions!!
@SomeoneNamedTom Because their movement due to gravitation ends up into a rotational form, and their gravitation pulls all the stars into a flat plane. Technically it's more difficult to explain and needs simulations, but this explosion is different.
If you are interested in pursuing visual effects you’ll need to learn about timing. Knowing how to use tools in necessary but will only get you so far without some animation concepts.
If you are a truth seeker, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click on the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says. Everyone needs to see this. The Present will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.
@5T34LTHcamoT4NK Technically anything over I think it is either 160db or 190db is a shockwave. No, db is not a measurement of the volume of sound. It's the measurement of a pressure wave. Supernovas do indeed cause a pressure wave well in excess of 190db.
However, the main problem with this video isn't the terminology of "shock wave", it's that explosions in space are far more spherical. A shockwave like that only occurs on the surface of a gravity well like a planet surface.
@luccaskunk LOL.... >_< i knew that one... no really
ya i wasnt sure about the shock wave thing, but i guess that some stupid pple can think that explosions happen like that in space.... i was just wondering about the vocabulary -_-
but has a theory, i eared that it would be possible in a other dimension that has diffident physics for this to happen(maybe corrupted space?), but that's talking to far
@5T34LTHcamoT4NK Sure, but that's a hypothetical universe and has nothing to do with a theory. Please talk to your science teacher about the difference between a hypothesis and a theory.
@5T34LTHcamoT4NK While hypothetically, it may be possible for a different universe with different physics to produce such a shock wave, you're not going to get everything else being the same. It would take such fundamental differences for the math behind the physics to produce a 2D shockwave in a 3D space that it would be a very alien place to us. There likely wouldn't be stars as we know them, let alone planets or galaxies as we know them. Life might not even be able to occur there.
@luccaskunk I don't think supernovae cause any kind of pressure wave at all. For there to be pressure you need a medium. As space is a vacuum there is no medium to compress.
@dudealishes lol I had the same question. :) I've found some answers on Wikipedia. Just search Supernova in it and look for the section called "Asymmetry".

The radioactive particles, or whatever, will thin out as the explosion spreads, as long as its not too close it wont be very dangerous. Most super novas will also end up creating a black hole, suctioning the explosion into nothingness. If were gonna talk about judgement day or apocalypse, think about yellowstone, thats more likely really. Or nukes of course.
Since the radiation travels at the speed of light. If we can observe an exploding star, we are also experiencing the radiation shock wave. So I don't see how we can know about the coming apocalypse in this way.
The Betelgeuse A radiation wavefront on its way to us at the speed of light right this very moment and could arrive today, tomorrow, next month, next year, we don't know exactly when the star actually did supernova, we just know it did.
And bizarrely coincidental, the same is true for Antares A. But Antares is a bit farther away than Betelgeuse. Unknown factor as to how its supernova will affect us.
@lolnation123 Possibly a major extinction event. More likely the end of the world will be caused by the narcissistic hubris and stupidity of CERN or some other physics facility that implants a black hole or strange matter into the core of our planet. At that time, you might as well stick your head between your legs and kiss your sweet ass goodbye. There's nothing else that can be done. CERN blatantly lies about the "safety" of what it's doing with the LHC.
@electronfun but wouldn't the magnetic field stop the radiation I know that a supernova can knock it off but this radiation wavefront could have possibly had its energy dissapated hitting other steller objects
@Thep456ome The Earth's magnetic field doesn't affect photons, which aren't charged particles. Photons zip right thru a magnetic field. The only protection we have is the atmosphere, and it may be far overwhelmed. Betelgeuse A is so close to us, you can just about throw a rock at it and hit it. That it went supernova is not a happy situation for us. Yes, kids, there's a whole universe out there. And it may be doing stuff that's bad, bad, bad news for us.
@Thep456ome Unfortunately, there isn't any magic shield between us and the radiation wavefront which will be traveling at the speed of light. Eventually, long afterwards, charged particles will reach us, but by that time there may not be anyone left to give a crap. And assuming that CERN hasn't destroyed the planet right down to the very last electron and proton and the Earth doesn't even exist anymore.
now why would it shoot out a ring shockwave? and on that axis? there would be no gravity around it so if such a shockwave existed would it not form a complete sphere and have the shockwave go in every direction?
A super nove would destroy our little solar system in a blink of an eye. Most stars that do this are much larger then ours. Probably the size of our solar system. Which is the sun and planets orbits. Think about it, all stars dont super nova!
shock waves occur in supersonic airflows where there are air molecules..the region separates air with two different flow properties (temperature, pressure, etc) on either side of the wave + this wave seemed to be travelling 1000x faster than the speed of ligt...hahaa!! GOTCHA!!
@catsfromhell1 well then the CLEARLY protruding and IMMENSELY appearing title of the vid should also state that :P..i knw its an animation, im just correcting the wrong term 'shockwaves' which is in the title :)

@electronfun but wouldn't the magnetic field stop the radiation I know that a supernova can knock it off but this radiation wavefront could have possibly had its energy dissapated hitting other steller objects
Thep456ome 8 months ago
@Thep456ome The Earth's magnetic field doesn't affect photons, which aren't charged particles. Photons zip right thru a magnetic field. The only protection we have is the atmosphere, and it may be far overwhelmed. Betelgeuse A is so close to us, you can just about throw a rock at it and hit it. That it went supernova is not a happy situation for us. Yes, kids, there's a whole universe out there. And it may be doing stuff that's bad, bad, bad news for us.
Have a nice day!
electronfun 8 months ago
@Thep456ome Unfortunately, there isn't any magic shield between us and the radiation wavefront which will be traveling at the speed of light. Eventually, long afterwards, charged particles will reach us, but by that time there may not be anyone left to give a crap. And assuming that CERN hasn't destroyed the planet right down to the very last electron and proton and the Earth doesn't even exist anymore.
Have a nice day!

the shockwaves should be an expanding sphere, not a ring.
fkkkkkenig 8 months ago
can't you assume that the shape of the wave would be roughly spherical? why can't this supernova ring travel freely in three dimensions?
banananer16 8 months ago
now why would it shoot out a ring shockwave? and on that axis? there would be no gravity around it so if such a shockwave existed would it not form a complete sphere and have the shockwave go in every direction?

A super nove would destroy our little solar system in a blink of an eye. Most stars that do this are much larger then ours. Probably the size of our solar system. Which is the sun and planets orbits. Think about it, all stars dont super nova!

The super nova is some blast that can destory the earth easyley with out even controling it actally the super nova goes to every way but ends soon.
sanjograi123 9 months ago
shock waves occur in supersonic airflows where there are air molecules..the region separates air with two different flow properties (temperature, pressure, etc) on either side of the wave + this wave seemed to be travelling 1000x faster than the speed of ligt...hahaa!! GOTCHA!!

@91MAYZ read the description. it says CLASSIC SCIFI explosion….dumbass -_-
catsfromhell1 9 months ago
@catsfromhell1 well then the CLEARLY protruding and IMMENSELY appearing title of the vid should also state that :P..i knw its an animation, im just correcting the wrong term 'shockwaves' which is in the title :)

There's no gravity in space so that shockwave would have to reach all directions simultaneously.

@glitchman161 Gravitational waves do exist in space.
idricool 11 months ago
@glitchman161 a spherical shock wave would be more accurate !!!

@glitchman161 Unless it were magnetically bound... but still the shock wave would not be round correct
