Sully: 'I am beginning to understand why they might feel that way...'. Bit@@: 'And why is that?'.... huh? what kind of a dumb question is that! Respect to this man!!
"did we make the best choices?" ?? what kind of hero, who lands an aluminum structure into water going 200 mph, when a bird just took out their engine minutes before, says that? He landed them all safely, in the end. This whole thing stinks. Where is Sullenberger in the photos of the people on the wings? lol
How many people can say that they have their Name on Wikipedia for an heroic act? He does and sure damn he deserves it... Who said heros die? They don´t... they dodge the bullet... CApt. Sully´s a proof of that. Your family must be so proud of you. Cheers to you Capt. Sully
One beer? I´m from Portugal and i would buy him the most expensive bottle of Port Wine in the world if i could... This Man is what people should try to be... courageous, intelligent, stone cold in danger situations and caring for the lifes of others when they really need him to be at the best of his game. This man should have a Statue in his honour... while he is alive and kicking! Bless you Capt. Sully. Greetings from Portugal
@pdlsuper7 You're in more danger in a car statisticly speaking. Infact you're more likely to get hit by a truck on a wednesday in the morning that die on a flight. Relax.
Wow, I imagine myself being one of the passengers of that flight. If I were really, I would run up to him and tell him "Thanks for all the efforts you gave just to save the plane, I owe you, and the whole crew my life"
3:19 SHUT UP DUDE! you are now MY hero! what more could you have done? you did all that you could do and what you did do was everything you could have done! You probably saved 155 dreams that day! Great Job man I wish I could meet you!
i cried watching air crash investigation on this case...and captain sullen really inspired me...his humility and professionalism, he's indeed a modern day hero
I know that this happened awhile back. But everytime I revisit it I am moved. We talk about athletes being "clutch" in the difficult moments when things look bleak. This Captain, and this crew, may be the best definition of clutch in my generation. Everyone involved executed their responsibilities as best as possible, considering the circumstances. Passengers included as i understand. 1st responders & emergency response as well. We can all aspire to perform half as well. Nicely done.
@Ish0tJR I was wondering the same thing, who the fuck thumbs-downed this video? Might be that guy from United Airlines in the other video who is trash-talking Sully, saying he fucked up. I gave that guy and earfull. Captain Sullenberger is a true hero, and literally a model in everyday life of how people should model themselves after. Professional, courteous, very intelligent, selfless, humble, and respectful. What an amazing story, because of an amazing person.
This man is so amazing. God put him in this situation for a reason. I love the fact that he's so humble. This event can only truly be described as a miracle.
I am literally with tears on my face. This man is a complete unique person. The hero word is short to described what an intelligent human being he is. And by looking at this video i also think he is an amazong father. God bless this person, Captain you are my hero ... Cant find other words to describe this man.
What I noticed was when the woman thanked him for bringing her husband home to her. He asked her what her name was. That in itself says to me how genuine of a man CPT Sullenberger is. At a loss of words right now.
I don't see in any way where the Lord is involved here, but this man is an outstanding professional pilot who did the best thing possible and save 155 lifes. Although it was his "job" to land the plane as safe as possible, these kind of things ask for the best skilled men. For this, he deserves a statue.
Saving 1 life is so called (easy) but saving 155 life? That is amazing,I don't know. I have no words. I travel about 3 to 4 times a year from John F. Kennedy 'JFK' to Rafael Hernandez 'BQN' and vise verse. I always thought if there was an accident how it will end. My only hope is for it to end like the Grand Hero "Captain Sullenberger"
Right after this flight, Colgan Air Flight 3407 crashed along with many others. It shows that life is very precious, and bad events do happen. Sullenberger did a great job. Survival of people =Pilot+Calm River+ Proximity to emergency services.
Its amazing how one normal pilot who yeah people knew as a friend and good pilot but was never famous for anything can save the lives of 100 people and now is known for something amazing. People who used to know Sullenberger as a friend and good pilot now know him as a hero. To me Sullenberger didnt just save 100 lives, but to me Sullenberger saved everyones lives.
I think that captain Sullyand his crew could benefit from EMDR. (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing--Therapy) EMDR can be an extremely effective tool for coping with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Sadly, Capt. Sully talked about "forgiving himself"..... for what?? This man and his flight crew, as well as the air traffic controllers and the rescue crews are all heroes.
What is he saying? He did what he could do. I am sure under different circumstances he would have made it to the airport. He was lucky he was near so close to rescue boats.
This is a great story very inspirational some people think they gave him to much credit but thats untrue he deserves all the credit he gave them. Anytime someone saves others lives it is incredible. A hero can be defined in many ways. He wasnt just doing his job, he went above and beyond his call and god bless this man.
@mcarock1 I dont think they give him too much credit, but they certainly dont give the FO or the FAs enough credit. Except Sully lol, he gives them credit constantly.
If you think about all the details he had to have perfect when he hit the water...flaps,yawl,pitch.attitude,airspeed, rudder, ect. He made a flawless landing under extreme cicumstances. What an extrodinary pilot and crew.Your the MAN Captian Sully !!
You are a trully Hero, A Icon for my career an inspiration to keep follwoing my dream path! I`ll Allways remember you Capitain Chesley Sullenberger. God bless us all!
Forget all of the celebrities and athletes. This guy is a true American Hero. I wasn't even on this flight and it has touched me dearly. Like I said, a true American hero.
Logic would say he just did his job, common sense would be to acknowledge he did it well. But however far you want to minimise his heroism, you cannot deny he is such a sweet heart.
Oh, and yes Sully, I would indeed rather have good news if I happen to have a choice :)
He makes a very good point, its not just 155 people he saved, he saved 155 families. It seems throught the documentary, that he doesnt want to be the hero, he was just doing his job.
3:26 It sucks that he's haunted by the event, worrying that he didn't do "something better"...even though the outcome was a total success! He must be a great perfectionist. That's what makes him such an excellent pilot. Great work, Captain!
The gallantry of military pilots is not to be questioned, and they display skill and bravery daily. Fighting men know the dangers they face, and do so willingly.
Airlines are altogether different. What makes this captain so remarkable, and why he rightfully deserves praise is because he 1) saved the lives of so many innocent people at once 2) maneuvered his aircraft with unmatched skill in a never-before-seen, worst-case scenario and 3) has continued to display class, confidence and humility.
Had you not been so skilled, my father, or others like him in their sky-high buildings could have perished along with your passengers had not you landed in the river as you had.
As a holocaust survivor, my father taught me that to save a life, is to save the world as you never know what the person you've saved, nor his or her prodigy will go on to contribute to the peace and healing of the world.
His decisiveness is the reason that they are all alive today - because he made the right choices. Without someone like him in charge, January 15th would have been a very sad day.
im glad we still have guys like this around

What makes this captain so remarkable, and why he rightfully deserves praise is because he 1) saved the lives of so many innocent people at once 2) maneuvered his aircraft with unmatched skill in a never-before-seen, worst-case scenario and 3) has continued to display class, confidence and humility.

You should bring your grievances to the media who don't let people know of these incidents.
Pilots in the military and Sullenberger are both heroes.

Maybe this is such a big deal because he could have crashed into a building and could have killed 100's of people.

From the Captain's favorite letter:
"Dear Captain Sullenberger, Big Apple Hero
Yesterday, I just received a voicemail from my 84-year-old father who lives on the 30th floor of a building with river views, here in Manhattan.

Bless you, Captain Sullenberger
New York Loves You."

I want Captain Sullie in charge of the bailout.
I'm pretty sure he pays his taxes, too.

His decisiveness is the reason that they are all alive today - because he made the right choices. Without someone like him in charge, January 15th would have been a very sad day.
