It's the debug rom, which has the "map select" function. There's a similar function on Majora's Mask, but you need a cheat code for it.

Do you know what was on that version?

Loz oot was first planned for the n64 DD, which was only released in Japan, so during development, they had to switch to a cartridge format. They also had the release date that they had to meet, and so the released the game without fully debugging it. This was 1.0, and after bugs had been found, they started releasing 1.1. Shortly after, they re-released it, and that was 1.2. (long comment see next one)

Most cartridges and reproductions are of this version. They had more versions planned, but the lifespan of the game was almost over, and so they just scrapped them, the leaked 2.0 beta rom being the only fully beta rom out there.

it actually is a color editing code, if you look at some beta footage you'd know that mario was originally colored organgish pinkish, its as close as you can get though.
