  • Hey my finches began nesting but the male does all the work. My female just sits there and watches but she pecks the material here and there. The male goes in the nest but the female doesnt. Is this normal

  • k it's me again, but this time my zebra finches killed(ate) all 4 of their eggs.i gave them protein(egg shells) and stuff.btw my female finch's foot has a black thing and stuff and it's hardened and yeah so she puts her foot up and doesn't use it that much. What's wrong with her o_O?!?!?Oh and in their life time how much times do they lay eggs?2 times???? Super CURIOUS!!!!! >_<

  • @iluvzebrafinches Hi, It's bad if you feed your Finch Egg shells and turned it into a habit. The more you feed it eggshells the more they will devour their Laid Egg's Shells and the more of not having a chance of Generation of these little birdies. If you want calcium, feed them those flavored grates, most of these flavored grates has calcium containing in it. We always put these flavored grates and could last upto 2-3months(depends on how many finches you have.)

  • he can fly up actually because he wants to go to warm his eggs and stuff so he's in the nest with the female finch

  • is my bird sick if he keeps on laying on the floor and pooing liquid???

  • @iluvzebrafinches

Oh I am very sorry to hear that. I am afraid this is really bad. He may not make it. So sorry. I have had birds die like this.

  • @iluvzebrafinches

Wait, can he actually fly up? or can't? If it is pooing liquid by itself may be temporary, but if he can't get up....

  • i gave my zebra finches more nesting material but luckly they didnt cover the egg

  • @iluvzebrafinches

They may not be able to build a really awesome nest like birds outside do, definitely not like the one in video. Those round nests are sold in stores, and the birds bring twigs inside to make it better. Within the next they do not have to cover the eggs. Most important is that they take turns to sit on the eggs at all times. Some young birds are inexperienced and dumb and they can lay like 10 eggs and never sit on them. That is sad, but they may do well following times.

  • what is that material there using to build there nest with?

  • @MrAJK2011

The material I used is just a bunch of dried out grass from the outside. Make sure it is not grass that looks like sharp blades, I dont know if they'd like that, it should look more like thin stick form. If you get grass from outside make sure it is from somewhere where it hasn't been sprayed with pesticides and make sure to shake it to have any bugs fall off. Another really good option is, if you can buy a very cheap broom sweeper that is made from natural material, just cut it up.

  • how many zebra finch do you have?

  • they look like my finches that I have

  • we have two nests in their cage , and one of them likes one nest and wont let the other one in no matter what. and the whit one (is the naughty one) took everything out of the gray ones nest and put it all in his lol, so we put more tissue and stuff in the grey ones nest and the white one took it all out and put it in his nest lol. and now theire is soo much stuff in the white ones nest he cant even get in there xD

  • realllly realllly nice birds and that nest is nice tooo good luck!
