Luciano Pavarotti - Kallen Esperian - Otello act III duet

Devo dire qui che sono veramente colpito con tanto pregiudizio di alcuni contro Pavarotti. E vero che la sua voce non e come la di, per essempio, Del Monaco, o Corelli, ma credo che Pav a fatto una buona representazione nel Pavarotti Plus da 1992, qui con Kallen Esperian. E molto curioso che i commenti qui sono variabile, tanto per conto di Pav, come di Esperian. Alcuni pensano che Esperian "is wonderful", ed'altri che essa non'e una buona Desdemona. Io, solo mi rallegro ascoltando le sue voci.

I know that singers have off nights, but it honestly sounds to me like the soprano has major technical deficiencies. She is forcing her voice out and her singing seems rather uncultivated next to the likes of Luciano Pavarotti.

my sister is an aspiring (and really damn good) soprano and got to meet Kallen Esparian after a concert. She's just as good of a person as she is a soprano. She told my sister her email, and to keep in touch. The entire way home, my sister was freaking out, repeatedly saying "I just met Kallen Esparian!! I'm about to cry!"

This is absolutely the first class of interpretation. The both voices are very harmonic together. Kallen Esperian sings "la Desdemona" totally perfect and with her soul. Great! Our Pavarotti is reading from the Libretto, but.....he sings like a goddess.

personalmente preferisco mille volte Pavarotti ai tanti che hanno provato a cantare Otello e che sono riusciti solo ad Urlare.

E' vero che a Pavarotti mancano gli accenti drammatici ma non dimentichiamo che Otello è un ruolo dalle mille sfaccettature e forse se Pavarotti avesse cantato un po' meno forte lascandosi guidare dalle indicazioni di Verdi, avrebbe cintribuito a togliere questo ruolo dalle mani degli Attuali urlatori.

@bodiloto carissimo Nicola anche io la penso perfettamente come lei, però sa è sempre un grandissimo anche se cantava ruoli inadatti alla sua voce. Non è affatto un ruolo per la sua voce, nemmeno lontanamente, però in questo video,a 57 anni di età e 31 anni di carriera,credo che dobbiamo solo perdonarlo e ascoltarlo con grande ammirazione e APPLAUDIRLO. Quando mi ricordo i tenori che cantavano negli anni 50-60 mi chiedo,ma dove sono spariti questi voci,questi tenori?Le agenzie di Pavarotti,Domingo e Carreras hanno fatto tutto possibile e inpossibile per creare la nuova "legenda" cioé Domingo il piu grande tenore del mondo senza do e senza si naturale e Pavarotti sempre microfonato...preferisco il silenzio.E vero che Pava aveva una bella voce ma...Ciao

Pav has a darker covered tone but is a full lyric in the Italian style. Well, he has a great voice but not for anything heavier than Tosca.

He never had to sing next to Del Monaco.He is very lucky Corelli called it quits in '75 as it set him alone as the Italian tenor star for the world. Florez is a light or leggiero tenor in the style of Josef Schmitt, Wunderlich.

Whatever happened to this wonderful soprano?. Fro the moment I saw her I thought we were going to here a lot from her. just a few things and disappeared. Not that she lost her voice cause last time I heard her in 90´s and much after this, she was still singing fabulous. Whatever happened to Kallen Esperian?. A wonderful voice and beautiful woman. Kallen resides and performs frequently in Memphis and other places. I have had the pleasure of serving as a piano accompanist in the past couple of years at a couple of events for her. She is great to work with and a joy to accompany. I think she is singing better then ever.

I would consider Juan Diego Florez a "lyric" tenor. Pavarotti I would classify as "dramatic."

Wrong, Florez is a lirico-ligero, coloratura tenor. Pavarotti is a lyric, Corelli is a dramatic or spinto.

How about a compromise to a full lyric tenor? I still tend to pull him further into dramatic for the size of the voice and carrying power over a lyric tenor. And yes, if you want to go into ALL of the different classifications, Florez (my favorite right now!) is lyric-leggiero.

Choirman41... Juan Diego Flores voice is so small that he couldn´t be classified as liric ever. He is a VERY light "leggero tenor". Pavarotti was a liric tenor maybe a little lirico spinto at the end of his career but the liric sound was always there. A fabulous singer!... I mean Luciano.
