I'm American, and here's my answer... I will admit that many contries are ahead of us. They're usually the one's looking back at us calling us stupid. The main thing americans have a false at is how they get into other contries stuff, and if American armies help the others, they'll either do it their way, or leave. We also have the most obese citzens. However, None of this means we're dumb. But some are ahead. But that's my opinion, But I hope that helps out.

i hate to burst your enlightened bubble, but the only reason you have such a easy life with modern day socialism is because about 235 years ago some really pissed off guys decided they had had enough of the european monarchy's totalitarianism and had ourselves a revolution. we then decide to establish a republic, not a democracy, and have very limited government, and let people live how they want....that social experiment has lead to most of the greatest technological advances in history.
If you compare India's democratic system similar to our own, you can see that our value system is complimentary to our political system and that India's with its lack of a moral value system like Christianity is rife with corruption and makes their system faulty. Secondly, America is an isolated country, but no more in the sense that every other country is. We believe in our ideals (and have lots of them). So, even though we have a very big influence on the world...we don't own it. The complex way in which it operates can't be entirely known by everyone. How much do you know about it, is a better question?

She was a lot of things to a lot of people. Something about the question inspired me to make this video, I don't doubt that her hotness had something to do with that.

Having spent some time in the USA i found that there was very little information on World topics on most News channels. The average American has a very low awareness of General Knowledge on topics outside of their own Country.

A couple of other things to consider: (1) The sample was too small - just a few people questioned out of 300M Americans (2) These same results will be found in any country - so is the world stupid? Result of Test: The test creator is trying to be funny and pick on America because the USA is the best in every aspect from helping the poor to military might.

People around the world assume we are stupid because we dont tend to keep up with world events, but the fact is most Americans are too busy with their personal lives and consider other matters recreational information. Most Americans are not stupid. Like all nations, there are stupid people and there are smart people. every country has stupid people. Canada has stupid people, China has stupid people, France has stupid people, and America has stupid people. On tv shows, they only show the wrong answers. they never show the right answers and most of the "stupid people" are actors.

The American dream is a life of magnificent, extraordinary choice, and sometimes caught up in the romance of that, we are not focused on our interdependent relationship with the rest of the world. We are sorta hypnotized by a passion which flows through one who is endowed with the freedom to pursue any dream he can dream any time he can dream it.
I do hear where you are coming from though. When I notice someone has values which are very different from what I want them to be, sometimes I find myself judging them as being unaware of the consequences of there beliefs, and the behaviors which flow from them. It is much more difficult for me to identify what needs of mine are not being met while I am focused on judging them.
When we were first a new nation, we tried to not become involved in worldly, especially european, affairs and concentrated on building our nation. Today, however, the United States plays a larger role in the world, but some people still don't really care about the rest of the world and only care about American affairs, and in my own opinion, I think that is where some of the American ignorance is generated from.

I disagree about your "why" theory, but sometimes "why" is Rhetorical as in "Why don't you pick up your socks" it's just that in America people don't care to find solutions or ask realistic "Why" questions. So we've learned that "why" means being sarcasticly rhetorical.
i've met more americans than i can count. i don't know if americans are stupid, intelligently speaking...but they are the most vulgar, loud and obnoxious people in the universe and probably beyond.
I find that generalizing about americans is a bit dumb since it's such a large melting pot of people. Despite my good intentions, I tried to meet ONE american that wasn't loud and arrogant and alas, I failed. I swear american tourists have perfected the art of attracting ire. You're only rivalled by the French in that regard, which is ironic considering how the two nations hate each others.
Wether it be here in America, on YouTube, while I am on vacation, where ever I am in the world, the majority of people I attract to me have made positive contributions to my experience of life. Also, l can't blame people for not knowing or caring about other areas of the world which do not affect them directly. Most people would like to do their jobs and take time for themselves. We do only what is necessary to survive and provide luxuries for ourselves.
I imagine a lot of people in the world live this way. There are things we are concerned about and have zero influence over. Then there are things we can have a meaningful impact on and these things give our life meaning, depth, joy, and purpose. Not everyone is here to save the world from itself.
l'm sure that we could do the exact same thing in another country, but they aren't labled as a "stupid nation." Another issue that bothers me is test scores. Many say that our test scores aren't up to par. After l saw other nations' test scores, l believed them. Later l found out that they only test their top students. So, even though l do believe a majority of Americans are ignorant, it is still wrong to make generalizations about all of us.

this is one of the most thoughtful men i've even seen or heard. but i wouldn't end my answer the same way.
it is true we have moral codes and religion of a sort that are designed to make us feel guilty for behaving badly. but if that makes us stupid, everyone else in the world is just as stupid.
but one code is not just the same as another. the american is still the best. we screw up. so does everyone else. but we have certainly done more good for the world than anyone else ever did.

Great response. Very unbiased, inciteful, and intelligent. AT the very least you show that the answer to the question isn't at all black and white, which is what people need to understand. If you find yourself asking this question, then maybe you should try to search for the answer yourself by trying to perceive another humans existence. Put yourself in their shoes...read stories about them...understand their hardships. The first way to win the war on ignorance is to understand it first.

i hate to burst your enlightened bubble, but the only reason you have such a easy life with modern day socialism is because about 235 years ago some really pissed off guys decided they had had enough of the european monarchy's totalitarianism and had ourselves a revolution. we then decide to establish a republic, not a democracy, and have very limited government, and let people live how they want....that social experiment has lead to most of the greatest technological advances in history.

socialism is a failed idea. if there were not private industry in europe then there would be no wealth there at all.
a government can't create wealth. all they can do is take money from the wealthy. only private enterprise creates wealth.
the socialists governments then own the citizens because the citizens are dependant on the govt. and the govt then intrudes in every aspect of life.
this has weakened these govts to the point that they are being taken over by outside forces.

If you compare India's democratic system similar to our own, you can see that our value system is complimentary to our political system and that India's with its lack of a moral value system like Christianity is rife with corruption and makes their system faulty. I realise this is an old post, but I'd like to respond.
Firstly, He explained, very well, his opinion about the question of ignorance.
Secondly, America is an isolated country, but no more in the sense that every other country is. We believe in our ideals (and have lots of them). So, even though we have a very big influence on the world...we don't own it. The complex way in which it operates can't be entirely known by everyone. How much do you know about it, is a better question?

Back then I imagined that there was a quality of community which came from responding to videos and I wanted to be part of that. She was a lot of things to a lot of people. Something about the question inspired me to make this video, I don't doubt that her hotness had something to do with that.

The biggest problem with Americans in my opinion is fear thats implemented into their minds, fear of other cultures and nations. They fear without reason, and that leads to hate. They hate another nation because they were told to hate and ask no questions why. Thats one way that surely leads to ignorance. The other big factor is religion. Religion was the way to control people. To make them think and do what they are told. They couldn't even read because it was "against the Gods will" :/

you're right. unfortunately, religion breeds ignorance and hate. especially christianity. i've never met a muslim, but i do know that islam is not about hating "infidels" and suicide bombers, and all that. i'm not a religious person, which gives me an advantage in being open-minded. it may be hypocritical, but i believe that christianity must be destroyed. we're working on that.

Yes, we don't know what's going on, but that's because our own damn institutions and government won't let us know about anything other than what dirrectly affects us. Plus, religion is somewhat needed, because in some small ways, people need some semblance of control (ex: parents need to control their kids when they misbehave). Wow! I'm really impressed with this response - especially the first half. A couple of other things to consider: (1) The sample was too small - just a few people questioned out of 300M Americans (2) These same results will be found in any country - so is the world stupid? Result of Test: The test creator is trying to be funny and pick on America because the USA is the best in every aspect from helping the poor to military might.

i have to disagree. we're not the best in every aspect, especially helping the poor. most of the US is below the poverty level, and there's an alarming amount of homeless within our own country. and have you ever seen some of the crap that comes out of the US? most of it is poorly made, mass-produced garbage. that's why most of our stuff comes from other countries. and the military might part saddens me. we waste way too much money on weapons when it could go toward something positive.

People around the world assume we are stupid because we dont tend to keep up with world events, but the fact is most Americans are too busy with their personal lives and consider other matters recreational information. I think that also speaks to the stereotype that we are lazy, cause that is a bunch of crap. Most Americans only can only enjoy daylight on weekends if they are lucky cause we work all day long.

The major reason (there are others that worth mention) why i think you americans are so stupid is because you don`t want to see what your government is doing to you and to the world. If you believe in your government you are definitly a stupid guy. You must open your eyes quickly. It was always a stupid question. Americans are often ignorant about the outside world, moreso than people from other countries. This is due to america's media/entertainment dominance, insular nature of the education system, and position as the most powerful country.
others think the accent is stupid sounding. but overall I wouldn't say america as a whole is any more stupid than other western countries. stupid is a very subjective word.

Pt.3:There are so many countries that don't have the advantage of having public schools, heathcare, and other governmentally funded programs, while America does, so at least we try. I do hear where you are coming from though. When I notice someone has values which are very different from what I want them to be, sometimes I find myself judging them as being unaware of the consequences of there beliefs, and the behaviors which flow from them. It is much more difficult for me to identify what needs of mine are not being met while I am focused on judging them.

When we were first a new nation, we tried to not become involved in worldly, especially european, affairs and concentrated on building our nation. Today, however, the United States plays a larger role in the world, but some people still don't really care about the rest of the world and only care about American affairs, and in my own opinion, I think that is where some of the American ignorance is generated from.

I find that generalizing about americans is a bit dumb since it's such a large melting pot of people. Despite my good intentions, I tried to meet ONE american that wasn't loud and arrogant and alas, I failed. I swear american tourists have perfected the art of attracting ire. You're only rivalled by the French in that regard, which is ironic considering how the two nations hate each others.

Wether it be here in America, on YouTube, while I am on vacation, where ever I am in the world, the majority of people I attract to me have made positive contributions to my experience of life. It is rare that I will run into one or two people who's company I have a difficult time enjoying. I do hope someday you come across a American who enjoys your company as much as you do theirs.

I'm very polite and nice to tourists even if I find them annoying. Insulting tourists is costly. So I pretend I like them :-D

The question is self-referential, and self-answering.
Anyone who believes human beings are fundamentally different depending on their position relative to map lines, is stupid. <i>This includes the poser of this question</i>. "Are American's stupid?" Yes, many are, because Americans are humans, and many humans are stupid. Case in point: stupid people ask myopic, xenophobic questions like "Are <citizens of X> stupid<|lazy|evil|etc.>?"

Very well put. I'd have to agree that in many cases societal pressures (religion,customs,media) can play a large role in dulling down peoples ability to think for themselves. But I think it's ridiculous to claim that it is confined to Americans.

Also, l can't blame people for not knowing or caring about other areas of the world which do not affect them directly. Most people would like to do their jobs and take time for themselves. We do only what is necessary to survive and provide luxuries for ourselves.

I imagine a lot of people in the world live this way. There are things we are concerned about and have zero influence over. Then there are things we can have a meaningful impact on and these things give our life meaning, depth, joy, and purpose. Not everyone is here to save the world from itself.

l'm sure that we could do the exact same thing in another country, but they aren't labled as a "stupid nation." Another issue that bothers me is test scores. Many say that our test scores aren't up to par. After l saw other nations' test scores, l believed them. Later l found out that they only test their top students. So, even though l do believe a majority of Americans are ignorant, it is still wrong to make generalizations about all of us.

I hear you owner... I think the opinions I was responding to where more about the unmet needs of the person who was expressing them than they where about anything else. Even so being judge in this way can be annoying.

l see all these shows asking random Americans easy questions that they answer incorrectly. The thing is, the show only aires the wrong answers. By the way the world responds, l get the impression that they don't understand this.
