is this song is extremely extrahordinarie and stunningly magnificent, with a complex composition and perfect.one of my fav of MAx Webster. great great great.
Was at this show in deepest Mississagua. Seb Bach glared at me on the way in for not wearing a leather jacket I think. It was the day of the Joe Carter, Roberto Alomar trade to the Blue Jays F.Y.I. National Velvet was good this night, but everyone was there to see Max.

Saw Kim and the boys back in the summer of '79 at Victoria Park S.S.. That was a very cool way to see them, up close and personal. Of course the dubes were going around in line waiting to get in. Great memories!!
I am so lucky to see this band live. Isaw them at the manchester apollo England, when they were supporting rush on their hemesphere tour. I dont usually watch support bands, but these blew me away. even though i had never heard of them before i went out and bought everything i could. One of Canada's best kept secrets.
I saw him on Vancouver Island in Nanaimo around this time but it wasn't the re-union. It was outside on the soccer pitch and there were only about 150 people there. A few of us were yelling out Max Webster tunes to play but he stuck to strictly his solo stuff. He's an awesome performer but I was disappointed he didn't play any Max tunes. After all, I'd been waiting around 12 years at that time to see Max. (By the time I was nineteen, I left Ottawa and was living in remote northern B.C.)
Amazing performance - does justice to the original and then some. I only saw Max (or Mitchell) once, opening for Rush in 1977, and they just cooked...pretty much just like this.
Is there a DVD of this show? I'd kill or die to get one. Failing that, please upload more tunes from it! Moremoremore!
And somebody tell Mr. M. to grow his hair back! Kim Mitchell without the hair is like Elton without the glasses or Trower without the lemon-eating pucker.
loved webster, not a bum note you say?they never wrote a good one! only kiddin Kim,i painted bust the busters screw the feeders make the healers, on my wall in Glasgow when this came out.
Max frickin' Webster! Does it get any better? Kim is a Canadian treasure, and a man who has never properly gotten his due. I mean, his guitar playing ALONE is worthy of reverence.
I so wish I was at this gig.
To the guy who suggests Kim throw 'Drive and Desire' back into his sets ... hells, yes!
my name is jim chevalier,i played with kim in a premax band called zoom,i was at this show, came up with gary who played in my band at the time, this was the first real reunion and possibly the most anticipated,i know it was a big deal for the band and much enjoyed....it was the toronto music awards and the crowd continued to chant for max throughout the presentations after they played :) ya gotta love it!
caught Max reuion but it was later in the 90's....saw them at Lulu's on New Years and at a club in Buffalo....and was lucky enough to score a ticket for the Q107reunion..........Kim and the boys should start playing Drive and Desire again!
Got to see Maxs in Buffalo and Rochester, New York during the Million Vacations l.p. somewhere around 1978 79. Also saw them at Maple Leaf Gardens on New Years Eve 1979 with Goddo and Geddy Lee came out for Battlescare.. Always kicked major-Ass !!!
I did read about Kim Mitchell in a who's who in Canada. It did list the guitar instructor he studied under. If I get a chance, I'll go back to that library and find out for you.
Man, I wish Kim and the boys would go back on the road together! They were one of the first bands I saw in concert. I believe that was in Trenton. Kim was wearing a pink tuttu!
oh my god, my dream on video, MAx Webster, and one of my fav songs, incredible,supermagnific.. who is the keyboard? I think plays better on album studio. gracias
When will people realize these guys kicked ass? I guess you really got to have a taste for Kim Mitchell's crazy lyrics, love his guitar playing though 2:18
WOW! The single best live Max vid I've ever seen/heard! Is the full show available on DVD? Max was the first band I ever saw live, opening for Rush at the Fargo Civic Center on May 5(6?) 1977 - KM ran out on stage in a huge pink felt cowboy hat with his Strat seemingly grafted to his hip, and I just stood there with my jaw hanging. They debuted tunes from "High Class," which came out a couple months later. I gotta see these guys live again! Rock WILL rise again from the retro-90s muck!!
Saw Max Webster 100 times or more. One of the best was a New Years Eve at Seneca Collage with Pat Travers and Wireless, talk about being blasted what a party no chairs nothing fantastic when people could get along like that back then not like now.NOW sucks. Im no racisit but why have things changed?
Max Webster should've been huge - like, global major stars huge! What was it- were they too quirky? Too original? Too un-classifiable? Cheers to whoever posted this.
Who really knows ? Lots of quirky bands never got their due including Max Webster. I felt the same way about BeBop Deluxe. I've always been in awe of Max Webster - their great chord progressions, leads, tight arrangements, and bizarre lyrics (usually from Pye Dubois).
What's kept Kim Mitchell from making it huge in the U.S. is his head-up-the-ass attitude. I interviewed him awhile ago. What an arrogant prick. Kim, I hope you're reading this you pompous cunt
Wonderful! I love "The Party". MW were the best band to come out of Canada ever. And I mean ever. One of the most underrated, with some of the wittiest and most intelligent songs. I saw them support Rush on their European "Hemispheres" tour in 1979 and sat there listening with my eyes and ears wide wide open.
Outstanding! Great solo by Terry Watkinson and a treat to hear Mike Tilka (formerly of Blues Train !!!). Wish Kim Mitchell had played that Gibson for all the old live shows - great sounding axe for his style.
Max were totally unknown to me until I came here in /78.I was immediately impressed, wicked band for sure.Kinda like a more commercial Canadian Zappa influenced rock band, brilliant.
just happened upon this video and realized iwas in the audience ..i believe this was the toronto music awards it was really cool because the bands playing that night sat right along with us in the crowd .I remember Rush was there Gowan, Lee Arron (in her prime, black minidress/undies)and I remember Maestro Fresh Wes being refused at the door because he got caught sneaking pitcher of beer out to his limo haha!
While I had to live through all the Disco crap that passed for Music, I saw Max Webster many a time at the Coronet Motor Hotel in Kitchener as well as fronting Rush at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
