  • There are many of these songs I would like to burn onto my own dvds. What is your policy about this?

  • Loved this and the other songs of teen age death of the 1960s. Oh, for the better times and then the mid sixties that set us all free.

  • I loved this song back in the early 60s when I was probably 12 or 13!

  • @deb741 i like them too ! in 1960 i was 12 yrs. old.

  • Maybe if you all listened to your all parents...there would not be so much devorce

  • in a way this song reminds me of Rag Doll

  • In the dutch version of this song, the whole band plays a G in the chorus at that point, sounds more natural to me. Anyway, didn't know this original version until now, glad I heard it and thank you YouTube !

  • Tommieparch, your grand dad played bass on this track? If you get the chance, ask him why he played a G in the first chorus when the rest of the band is playing an A. It's my favorite musical mistake, and sets the song apart.

  • well you can thank us hippies for your liberation because back in the early 60s parents still had total control over there children, and if they said you weren't going to see someone, then you weren't going to see someone. you didn't even have the law on your side back then....

  • dickey lee was a shit poor hick, he didnt write this song, the record label made him record it. his parents were so proud of his record deal, but they didnt even know this song, my grandad played bass guitar on this song... this was writen by a rich jew.. the double suicide never happened....col. tommy

  • If my parents had ever told me who I couldn't marry, I would have told them where they could stick that suggestion, and marry the one that I love.

  • June

  • Wow, Wow and double Wow!! Thankyou so much for this song.

  • Thanks for this beautiful song, brings me great memories, here in Mexico was shot by. "Polo and killers ", and did not know the original version, I really like the original better Dickey Lee. Greetings from Cd Valles, S.L.P. MEXICO

  • I named my cat Patches. He is white with grey patches over white.I know this is a tradic song. But, i would have married her andmoved to another country.Because your parents eventually dies. You have to go with your heart.I wouldn't have killed myself.I would have skipped the country.

  • ag wow my ma se geliefste liedjie ek word sommer hartseer en wil net my Ma n drukkie gee, Love you my beste beste Ma!

  • I remember writing the words to this song down by listening to this record a thousand times when I was ten years old. I still know all the words. One of my favorites.

  • Back in 1962 I was given a lift to UC by a radio dj who once was my fraternity brother in high school, (He was known as the "Night Creature,) He told me about this song before it became popular, I had an arrangement wih a record store at Miami University, I would tell the owner what song I thought would be a best seller for him, He would stock up on that song, If I was right, he would give me a free tape, I told him about "Patchesf" before I had even heard it, It hit number one in Cincinnati,

  • Anyone see the Stephen King film "Christine?" There is a quotation from that movie about "part of being a parent is trying to kill your kid." Isn't that the truth?! Dickey's folks "say no" like it's their fucking decision who their son decides to marry. My parents did something similar to me when I was a junior in high school. I wish all heteros would utilize contraception and stop breeding. That way they could not be mean to their children, (because they wouldnt have them).

  • @Jibjub80 Well said, I totally agree.

  • And one final thing, I think it IS right when Dickey concludes by saying he's going to join his darling that evening. The parents deserve to lose their son. After all, there's an expression which goes, "abuse it, you LOSE IT" Suicide is not always unjustifiable, at least in my book

  • @Jibjub80 as sad as it is I understand your feelings and thoughts

  • thank

  • this is undoubtly the best verison of patches

  • Thankyou so much for putting this on. I love it. Total classic 50's rock and roll. Beautiful song and so tragic if you listen to the words. Such a class difference is unheard of these days.

  • 2 Days ago i found the Vinyl at a Thrift store for 25 cents...

  • Dickey did a couple of these types of songs that sounded almost alike. The other is "Strange Things Happen". Thanks for posting!

  • Haven´t heard this one since the early 70´s, Thank you very much for some memorys... =)

  • I've been looking for this! *LOL* Couldn't remember who did it. Thanks
