And you know this how? Got some unvarnished facts available for viewing? Something besides the usual ultra right wing nonsensical ravings against Communists or socialists?
Franken has used this case to shamelessly self-promote himself. He is not interested in facts, no argument is made here. This is an exhibition Al Franken puts on in an attempt to depict himself as a champion of liberal political issues.
In regards to Jones...
A jury ruled in Federal courts that there is no evidence a crime was committed in Jones' case. All the facts Franken presents were dismissed or disproven in Jamie Leigh Jones's trial.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Council investigated the issue and concluded she was not imprisoned by KBR, a claim that she did not even bring up until two years after it occurred. Her story has changed so many times that her credibility has been proven to be dubious, including statements she made about how much she drank, how she was hurt, and what happened to her.
@mattredhead11 How can you claim to be gang rapped, when you also claim you have no recollection of the night and DNA evidence indicates only one person had sex with you?
Evidence implicates that this girl at the vary least, fabricated portions of her story, and sought trial by jury in an attempt for these false claims to be vindicated. Franken has made it easier for this to happen because he wants to use this media attention to promote his political career.
Because of this, the DoD cannot hire companies that require mandatory arbitration in contracts. Arbitration is a legal, practical, and effective alternative that protects companies from situations like this. Now government contracts will not be equally competed. Companies that could have provided what we need with better quality work at a lower price will not be able to do so because Franken has used this extremely unique (and false) case to triumph his amendment.
Ultimately, the DoD acquisition process is hurt, taxpayers pay more for less, and American businesses are weaker. All so Franken can look like he defended this girl from the big bad wolf that is corporate America.
I apologize for ranting, but in no way do I think Franken has represented the best interests of America and it bothers me that people think that he is a hero because he is so great at being a jerk.
@nickrambus You don't attempt to address ANY of Mr. Franken's actual points, you do make yourself look really dumb by using terms like "evolutionists" - that's like calling people who understand gravity "gravitationists." The saddest thing is that you do use the same tired "ass-sniffing" comment in other Al Franken videos.
What makes Sen. Franken such a good debater and questioner is he always sticks to the facts. He double checks his facts first, checks footnotes and sources, and he goes into these committees knowing what he is talking about. It is always a sight to behold when indisputable facts are used against lies and half truths.
Who's getting sexually assaulted now, Mr. de Bernardo? And how do YOU like it? You go Senator Franken! I double-dog-F***ing DARE someone to come on this board and rail about how "the free market always does things better", because IMHO getting gang RAPED, to the point of needing your genitals rebuilt by a surgeon, and then being locked in god damn CONEX box doesn't seem all that "free".

@Rennpanzer You mean the kind of conditions where a man can be falsely accused of rape and the "victim" skates by clean without having to answer for it? Okay, sure, I won't.
@jubal66 there was actually proof of her being gang raped and having reconstructive surgery there after and its cited in al frankens book because he wrote about it while she was trying to get her day in court more than a few years back
This won't stop until Warmonger's are somehow prevented from holding public office. As a nation of good people I think we can do this, what'ya say folks?
Having been faced with arbitration, I can say they are rarely fair. The ones writing the contract always tilt it in their favor and unless one is a lawyer, you probably won't know.
The same people wanted ACORN defunded over a deceptive video are the same ones saying companies like KBR can still do business with the US even though they covered up rape.
Those at KBR who about the rape have been silenced by the same binding contract. Basically. Your rights and freedoms are delegated and decided by the contract with KBR as the absolute athuority. A Goverment contractor practicing slavery, under the disguise of war. Since it's a Gov't contractor they will not risk any sort of litigation. Jamie did have her day, but it was too late.
While everyone is freaking out about the "injustice" in the Casey Anthony trial (the state had a shitty case), I've been crying for Jamie and the jury who decided that there wasn't sufficient evidence to show she had been drugged and gang-raped. I'd like to know why jury members think consensual sex includes a woman's vagina and anus being torn, needing reconstructive surgery for torn pectoral muscles, and being badly bruised all over. Morons. THIS is a grave injustice and it makes me sick.
KBR, Halliburton, Blackwater... Nasty companies run by the dark and disturbing friends of Bush and Cheney and the republican elite; companies designed to privatize government functions and only 10 times the cost with none of that pesky accountability to American laws or citizens.
Republicans insist that we should also privatize education and healthcare arguing that corporations can do it better and that it'll make government smaller because government is bad.
People like this KBR attorney routinely underestimate Franken's intellect. Franken, when given the chance to review the facts, will quickly get up to speed and then will go full-force into the issue. He is a real force in the Senate.

Al is a hero but JAMIE LEIGH JONES IS THE TRUE HEROINE ... that poor child. If it had been MY daughter, god help those assholes who hurt her. I'd have their salads tossed until they bled to death .. dear god, that poor little girl. I cry for her even now.
You know how many Republicans voted to keep the Franken amendment out? The amendment to stop arbitration overseas. Fucking republican dogs. Protecting the military contractors instead of rape victims.
Damn, Franken has a good mind. I am proud that he is a Democrat. Slowly but surely we are replacing Democratic rubber-stamp, corporate shills with people of Franken's caliber and that will only be good for America.
2. people that "seek opportunity" with a notoriously exploitative defense contractor are also fucking awful people
It's great that KBR was being held to account for SOMETHING, however small a grain in a Saharan continent of crimes. I'm not feeling any sympathy for the plaintiff, though. Take it, bitch!
Who is this joker de Bernardo? He is spooked. Couldn't KBR bring someone better to this battle. Franken rules. He is just going to get better and better at bitch slapping these f-ckers.
Thank God for guys like Franken ... jesus this world is a fucked up place when a woman who gets gang raped has to jump through hoops to get some God damned justice
i read about her case a year ago and i'm sitting here dumbfounded that she has not had her day in court yet! I'm not from America but i had better faith in your system than this, war or not.
It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.

Al Frankin, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, Barney Frank? These are the STUPIDEST people on the planet. They are THE MOST anti-american people in our country and the goofiest looking if our founders were alive today they'd be in their closet looking to exercise their 2nd amendment rights to get them off their porch much less drive them out of office. And they talk about Palin? lol What Idiots!!! Look at these morons! The right had better start showing these goofy bastards off to the american people
You are the idiot, Franken wipes out absolute republican bullshit . So you are pro rape ? You are an ASSHOLE and it should have been you daughter you piece of shit !!
@darliegoddess Calm down. I'm a moderate liberal, but there's a strong reason I qualify it with MODERATE. Republicans are not "pro rape, pro murder, pro death." The majority of them mean well, as do the majority of Dems. They just disagree on how to go about taking care of things.
And let's be honest here: Franken IS a bit outrageous in his manner compared to many other Senators.
@darliegoddess What clear evidence do you have that they don't mean well? Is it simply because you disagree with them? The Greeks disagreed with Socrates. That doesn't mean SOCRATES didn't mean well.
Why exactly do you think they don't mean well at all?
Franken is just awesome. Every single time I see him he's actually making substantive, intelligent points and cutting through the mendacious bullshit all around.
@mstaff657 Really? A simpleton. After listening to Sarah Palin open her yap, you're going to call someone who can put a sentence together that makes sense a simpleton without citing any evidence. Oh, right, you're a TROLL!
No, they don't. They're afraid that the ignorant masses will actually put her somewhere where she has power. She was in trouble as governor of Alaska for abuse of power and didn't even finish her term.
Also, here's a challenge, in your last post, you used capitalization twice incorrectly. I will put a smiley face by your name if you can tell me which ones they are. Some day maybe, when you're a big boy, you can read a book about the fallacies of argument. Trollin' trollin' trollin'!

I think what he means by simpleton is that Al is being absurdly misleading and this is all political showboating. He's a clown, and this entire ordeal is a case study in what's wrong with politics, politicians, and the American public who will never endeavor to research issues for themselves, and then form an opinion based on what they have LEARNED. I plead for you to stop regurgitating political rhetoric and convincing yourself it's your opinion. Have one original thought, please.
@sprezzatura3 You make a lot of assumtions. Have you ever read any of Frankin's books? He does his research AND SHOWS HIS WORK. He backs his ideas up with FACTS that you can look up yourself, which I do ALL THE TIME. Do the Becks, Coulters and O'Reillys of the world do that? Never. Period. You are talking out your ass.
I'm no liberal, I'm DEFINITELY not a Democrat, but I can spot an earnest, intelligent man and Franken is one. He's also damn funny.
Yep, I've read one of Franken's books. And I'm not saying he's not funny, but he's misleading and disingenuous, which is dangerous. Nobody has ever talked about Beck, Coulter, O'Reilly, or Palin (referring to your previous post), so your reference to them is only proving your incomprehension of logic. Do you know the quality of attorneys and prior judges who are arbitrators? Do you know whether you win or lose in federal or state court if you win five dollars? I'm scared of your dumbassery!
But the sad fact is, the world will continue to be comprised of people like Franken and Limbaugh. They're finding a niche in politics and exploiting/playing to ignorant people's emotions. I know very little about Jamie Leigh Jones, but I know that everything said from 9 on is absolutely scripted. Do you think it wasn't? Listen to it again. Jamie had already had her rape case removed to federal court and OUT of arbitration at the time of this hearing. They're lying, but you don't know it.
@sprezzatura3 I can't say I fully agree with your points, but my hat's off to you anyway. It's when everything seems to point in a single, fixed direction that the skeptic needs to step in and remind everyone that it's not that simple. That it's NEVER that simple.
Personally, I think Franken is a force for good, but you're absolutely right to say he plays the emotion card here.
@sprezzatura3 You're also absolutely right to point out the "scriptedness" of the affair, though I think that speaks more to his tendency to be very loud and dramatic and emotional than it does to something sinister.
I don't personally know what happened in this case, but that's precisely why I'M not right to say SHE'S in the right. None of us have the details. All we can do is take guesses.
@pureevilfnord With respect, have you personally looked up the facts in any books by Beck, Coulter, or O'Rielly? Not trying to be rude; just asking. I actually HAVE read one of Franken's books, but I didn't fact check it. I've read a few sections of Beck's most recent book, and I felt HE had some good points to make as well.
By the way, when someone is funny, it automatically makes me suspicious.
@Sonicisbadazz I LOVE reading those guy's books, and they very often do not hold up to fact checking. It's ironic that you mention this because Al Franken has made a lot of hay fact checking their books and is meticulous about showing his work when he presents an argument.
I am automatically suspicious of people who DON'T have a sense of humor.
@pureevilfnord Well, the thing is, I've read most of Al Franken's book "Lying Liars," and I found a couple things in there which are apparently meant to be jokes, but which I found could easily be mistaken for truths. And one of Al Franken's primary targets is Ann Coulter, a woman who herself writes for the sake of making herself and others laugh. As such, it isn't necessarily SURPRISING that her fact checking is off because that could be part of the joke.
@pureevilfnord In addition--and it pains me to say this--I actually HAVE stumbled across a few of his instances of lying and found them to be not as straightforward as he makes them. In particular, he talks about a kid who was lambasted on Bill O'Reilly for "blaming Bush for 9/11." Jeremy Glick didn't do that, but when I watched the interview, he did talk of a "legacy" that Bush inherited that seemed to have something to do with corporations.
@pureevilfnord Or something to that effect at least. So is it really surprising that O'Reilly took it the way he did? Not in my opinion. It DOESN'T excuse O'Reilly for getting the facts wrong, but it DOES demonstrate that he might have simply misunderstood rather than misrepresented the facts.
@pureevilfnord As for the whole humor thing, what I was trying to say but couldn't due to the character limit is this: often when something comes across as funny in politics, it's because the logic behind it seems idiotic, flawed, or obvious. The trouble is, if it were that simple, we'd have solved many of our problems years ago. So when something is presented as funny in the political realm...(TBC)
@pureevilfnord ...it's generally because it's being oversimplified, and when you oversimplify something, you're not necessarily giving the whole picture of the problem to your audience. Therefore, I find humor suspicious in the political realm. (An example: "'Guns don't kill people. People kill people.' True, but I think the guns HELP!")
Okay, I'm done. Sorry for the overlong response! :)
Misleading ? It's pretty simple you little clown, COMPANIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES SAFETY ! The one girl was raped so badly she had to have reconstructive surgery and was locked in a steel shipping container ! Republicans are pro rape.
I disagree and so does over 200 years of jurisprudence. I don't think that companies should be held to a higher standard of care than me-- reasonable care. And as for her being raped, I'd prefer to let a true finder of fact weigh the evidence and her credibility. I'm skeptical because 1) there was no criminal indictment under UCMJ against the alleged rapists, and 2) her story is too fantastic, that is, it's the most perfectly planned and executed rape operation ever. Even CID is involved!
No, you are skeptical because you are a complete asshole and are most likely a rapist yourself . A rape so violent the damage had to repaired by surgery. There was no charge against the rapist because of the conditions of her contract you moron. Republicans are pro rape, pro murder and pro death.
I would like to see a debate between Al Franken and the 30 Senators who opposed this rape victim in favor of the soulless corporate entity who stood in the way of justice. After destroying those 30 in debate, he should move on to the 5 corporate shills on the U.S. Supreme Court who believe corporations buying the votes of politicians is the constitutional equivalent of individuals exercising free speech. We are not a democratic republic; we are a corrupt, morally bankrupt corporate oligarchy.

The dirt bag is Simple Al, the perpetrators should be pursued not KBR, KBR will only dig in deeper make stiffer contracts in order to protect their interests.
Wow, she is a very strong woman. It's disgustingly wrong to have a document prohibit a person from seeking justice. I can't believe that it wasn't illegal in the first place. When Ms. Jones is speaking, it seems like that guy behind her with the buzz cut is mocking her. I may be wrong, but it seems like he is. Also, that man behind Al looks like John and Yoko's son Sean.
I have a friend who made a comment that I believe to be a pearl of wisdom " it seem to me that when it come to a sense of humor and common sense, the two go hand in hand. If you are lacking in one, you are probably lacking in the other."

Have one original thought, please.
sprezzatura3 1 year ago
@sprezzatura3 You make a lot of assumtions. Have you ever read any of Frankin's books? He does his research AND SHOWS HIS WORK. He backs his ideas up with FACTS that you can look up yourself, which I do ALL THE TIME. Do the Becks, Coulters and O'Reillys of the world do that? Never. Period. You are talking out your ass.
I'm no liberal, I'm DEFINITELY not a Democrat, but I can spot an earnest, intelligent man and Franken is one. He's also damn funny.
pureevilfnord 1 year ago 2
Yep, I've read one of Franken's books. And I'm not saying he's not funny, but he's misleading and disingenuous, which is dangerous. Nobody has ever talked about Beck, Coulter, O'Reilly, or Palin (referring to your previous post), so your reference to them is only proving your incomprehension of logic. Do you know the quality of attorneys and prior judges who are arbitrators? Do you know whether you win or lose in federal or state court if you win five dollars? I'm scared of your dumbassery!
sprezzatura3 1 year ago
But the sad fact is, the world will continue to be comprised of people like Franken and Limbaugh. They're finding a niche in politics and exploiting/playing to ignorant people's emotions. I know very little about Jamie Leigh Jones, but I know that everything said from 9 on is absolutely scripted. Do you think it wasn't? Listen to it again. Jamie had already had her rape case removed to federal court and OUT of arbitration at the time of this hearing. They're lying, but you don't know it.
sprezzatura3 1 year ago
@sprezzatura3 I can't say I fully agree with your points, but my hat's off to you anyway. It's when everything seems to point in a single, fixed direction that the skeptic needs to step in and remind everyone that it's not that simple. That it's NEVER that simple.
Personally, I think Franken is a force for good, but you're absolutely right to say he plays the emotion card here.
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@sprezzatura3 You're also absolutely right to point out the "scriptedness" of the affair, though I think that speaks more to his tendency to be very loud and dramatic and emotional than it does to something sinister.
I don't personally know what happened in this case, but that's precisely why I'M not right to say SHE'S in the right. None of us have the details. All we can do is take guesses.
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@pureevilfnord With respect, have you personally looked up the facts in any books by Beck, Coulter, or O'Rielly? Not trying to be rude; just asking. I actually HAVE read one of Franken's books, but I didn't fact check it. I've read a few sections of Beck's most recent book, and I felt HE had some good points to make as well.
By the way, when someone is funny, it automatically makes me suspicious.
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@Sonicisbadazz I LOVE reading those guy's books, and they very often do not hold up to fact checking. It's ironic that you mention this because Al Franken has made a lot of hay fact checking their books and is meticulous about showing his work when he presents an argument.
I am automatically suspicious of people who DON'T have a sense of humor.
Funny helps the bitter truth go down.
pureevilfnord 1 year ago
@pureevilfnord Well, the thing is, I've read most of Al Franken's book "Lying Liars," and I found a couple things in there which are apparently meant to be jokes, but which I found could easily be mistaken for truths. And one of Al Franken's primary targets is Ann Coulter, a woman who herself writes for the sake of making herself and others laugh. As such, it isn't necessarily SURPRISING that her fact checking is off because that could be part of the joke.
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@pureevilfnord In addition--and it pains me to say this--I actually HAVE stumbled across a few of his instances of lying and found them to be not as straightforward as he makes them. In particular, he talks about a kid who was lambasted on Bill O'Reilly for "blaming Bush for 9/11." Jeremy Glick didn't do that, but when I watched the interview, he did talk of a "legacy" that Bush inherited that seemed to have something to do with corporations.
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@pureevilfnord Or something to that effect at least. So is it really surprising that O'Reilly took it the way he did? Not in my opinion. It DOESN'T excuse O'Reilly for getting the facts wrong, but it DOES demonstrate that he might have simply misunderstood rather than misrepresented the facts.
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@pureevilfnord As for the whole humor thing, what I was trying to say but couldn't due to the character limit is this: often when something comes across as funny in politics, it's because the logic behind it seems idiotic, flawed, or obvious. The trouble is, if it were that simple, we'd have solved many of our problems years ago. So when something is presented as funny in the political realm...(TBC)
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@pureevilfnord ...it's generally because it's being oversimplified, and when you oversimplify something, you're not necessarily giving the whole picture of the problem to your audience. Therefore, I find humor suspicious in the political realm. (An example: "'Guns don't kill people. People kill people.' True, but I think the guns HELP!")
Okay, I'm done. Sorry for the overlong response! :)
Sonicisbadazz 1 year ago
@sprezzatura3
Misleading ? It's pretty simple you little clown, COMPANIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES SAFETY ! The one girl was raped so badly she had to have reconstructive surgery and was locked in a steel shipping container ! Republicans are pro rape.
darliegoddess 1 year ago 2
I disagree and so does over 200 years of jurisprudence. I don't think that companies should be held to a higher standard of care than me-- reasonable care. And as for her being raped, I'd prefer to let a true finder of fact weigh the evidence and her credibility. I'm skeptical because 1) there was no criminal indictment under UCMJ against the alleged rapists, and 2) her story is too fantastic, that is, it's the most perfectly planned and executed rape operation ever. Even CID is involved!
sprezzatura3 1 year ago
No, you are skeptical because you are a complete asshole and are most likely a rapist yourself . A rape so violent the damage had to repaired by surgery. There was no charge against the rapist because of the conditions of her contract you moron. Republicans are pro rape, pro murder and pro death.

ridewave444 2 years ago
I would like to see a debate between Al Franken and the 30 Senators who opposed this rape victim in favor of the soulless corporate entity who stood in the way of justice. After destroying those 30 in debate, he should move on to the 5 corporate shills on the U.S. Supreme Court who believe corporations buying the votes of politicians is the constitutional equivalent of individuals exercising free speech. We are not a democratic republic; we are a corrupt, morally bankrupt corporate oligarchy.
