LOL yeah school4life but there are good scuba diving stories on the net. My favourite is the myscubastory site.
They have dive accident stories, shark dive encounter stories, wreck discovery stories, and so on. THey have lots of videos on the previous topics too! Type myscubastory into google and its the first one. Let me know what you think!
I agree one most be-careful. It's my understanding this has been going on for years and years before me. That the fisherman use to feed them. Now the tourist bring frozen squid and they suck it off the hand. At least the times I have been there, that's how they ate. Never heard of any injuries, just remember you are in there playground and you will be alright. That's for the video.
ive been to stingray city numerous times with my family, and all i have to say is definitely do this is you are going to the cayman islands! they are the friendliest creatures, but everyone thinks wrong of them because of the steve irwin thing. they even have one named frisbee who doesnt have a tail with its stingers!
the barb of a stingray's tail is like a serrated knife and could easily impale a person.. a person who is stung is more likely to suffer from perforation of arteries or blood vessels. a little wake up call for you delusional people being overly fascinated by these sting rays. steve erwin (the crocodile hunter) got killed by a sting ray. if it can happen to him then it can happen to anybody
stingrays are attention hogs! they are really sweet!! i have been at this place many times with stigrays i a very shalow touch tang and they flap themselfs geinst the side to get you to pat them!! its sooo adorable!!
@Billabongisraddd are you mentally ill? steve was killed by a sting ray you delusional idiot!! yeah go messing with the sting rays and find out the hard way then...
huh?even though they tell u it won't sting u, they luk like they will, i live there and went to stingray city, fuckin scary, one almost sucked my ass off!
i went on that beach when i was on carnival cruise. it was fun i kissed 1 off them because my sister kept telling me 2 =p 2 talk you have to glide your feet on the ground so u don't step on one. one of the guy there working with the excursion crew licked one of the barbs, im not even lieing :)
I just went on this excursion. Nothing happened. Some of the rays DID have barbs and there is NO fence!! After watching some of the attacks I've seen on here I won't do it again!!! It was fun though.
there arent any stingers, they catch them and then they make it go to sleep and cut off thier stingers....theres a fence underwater to prevent it from going into other areas...
They have stingers. They started coming around to this sand bar when fishermen started cleaning fish in the area - then throw the scraps overboard.
They're pretty harmless. I think the stingers do have something in them that causes pain (other than the bony barbs). But everybody jumped in, had fun, and no one was hurt.
No fence. I have been there 3 times over the years, stingers intact. Never a problem. A small nurse shark showed up once and took the fish from a mans hand, he needed a couple of stitches. The shark wanted the food too. Harmless, and the guy has a great story!
These stingrays do have their barbs. I have been going their for more than 10 years with the guy at the beginning of the video that hands the stingray off to someone else. I just noticed him when I was looking for videos on the rays at Stingray City. Small World
You caught it, Mon! Swimming with the southern Rays on the sandbar. We were just there and did the same thing this January, I wish I had underwater video like you got.

And the critters got fed. :-)
